AIT Bangalore Admission FAQs
Short answers to what students ask before they apply.
What do the four choices after a KEA seat result mean?▾
After each round, KEA asks you to pick one of four choices. Choice 1 means you are happy and join the seat. Choice 2 means you keep the seat but want a better one later. Choice 3 drops this seat but keeps you in the next round, and Choice 4 means you leave counselling.
Can I write both KCET and COMEDK UGET?▾
Yes. They are separate exams with separate forms, so you can write both. If you get AIT seats through both, you must keep only one and cancel the other before the last date.
Is the COMEDK fee the same for every AIT branch?▾
Yes, for 2026 to 27 it was the same. Computer Science and Mechanical both had a tuition fee of INR 3.02 Lakhs on a COMEDK seat. So you can pick your branch on interest, not on fee.
Can AIT ask for any fee beyond the COMEDK total?▾
Yes, a little. COMEDK allows a college to collect a skill lab fee of up to INR 20,000 a year, approved by VTU, and the VTU fees. Ask AIT for the exact list when you report.
Which BE branches are new at AIT?▾
Aerospace Engineering and Robotics and Artificial Intelligence are among the newer ones, each with 18 COMEDK seats in 2026. Computer Science (Data Science) started in 2022. Newer branches have smaller batches, so you get more attention.
Can I get a management seat with a JEE Main rank?▾
Yes. AIT takes a JEE Main rank card for its management quota, just like a KCET or COMEDK one. Apply early, because these seats fill before the later counselling rounds.
Can I book a seat before my Class 12 result comes?▾
Yes. The Acharya admissions page says you can reserve a seat before your final result. You still need the 45% in Physics, Maths and the third subject when the result comes, or the seat goes.
How many sets of copies should I take when I report?▾
Take all originals and three full sets of photocopies. Keep each set in the same order as the AIT list, so the admissions desk can check them fast.
Why does AIT want 15 photos?▾
They are used for your ID card, library card, hostel, VTU forms and scholarship forms. Get colour photos of 5 x 5 cm or 3.5 x 4.5 cm, and write the date the photo was taken.
I studied CBSE. Do I need a migration certificate?▾
Yes. AIT asks CBSE students and students from outside Karnataka for a migration certificate. Apply to your board as soon as your result is out, because it can take a few weeks.
What is the character or conduct certificate?▾
It is a short letter from your school that says your behaviour was good. Ask your principal for it along with your transfer certificate, so you get both together.
Can a diploma holder join BE at AIT in the second year?▾
Yes. You write DCET, which KEA holds for diploma students, and then pick AIT in KEA counselling. You join the third semester directly.
Is there a BE for people who already have a job?▾
Yes. AIT offers a BE for working professionals, with classes planned around work hours. Contact the admissions team for the seats, timing and fee, as these are not printed.
Which scholarships can I get from Acharya?▾
You can apply if you have sports or cultural wins, very good marks, or a parent in the army, navy, defence or teaching. Siblings of Acharya students can apply too. You can hold only one Acharya scholarship at a time.
Can I take a government scholarship along with an Acharya one?▾
Yes. Acharya allows a government scholarship on top of its own. Apply on the Karnataka State Scholarship Portal if you are SC, ST or OBC and meet the income limit.
Does AIT have a hostel?▾
Yes. AIT has separate hostels for boys and girls with Wi-Fi, security and food. For the 2026 batch, a four sharing room cost INR 90,000 to INR 1 Lakh a year, and a single room INR 3.05 Lakhs.
How do I book a hostel room?▾
Call the hostel office at +91 76187 75959 or write to hostelmanager@acharya.ac.in. Book soon after you get your seat, because cheaper rooms fill first.
Is food included in the hostel fee?▾
Yes. The hostel fee for the 2026 batch included food, laundry, housekeeping and a study table and chair. Rooms with fewer students also have an attached bathroom.
What happens in the first week at AIT?▾
You attend an orientation, then a short test on the second day. A bridge course follows to connect Class 12 topics with first year subjects, and a second test checks your progress.
Do I need a caste certificate for a reserved seat?▾
Yes. Bring your caste and income certificate if you claim an SC, ST, Category 1, 2 or 3 seat. Without it, you are treated as a general student.
Can students from abroad apply for BE at AIT?▾
Yes. You need a sponsorship letter if someone sponsors you, a bank statement, travel insurance and passport and visa copies. Write to international@acharya.ac.in for help.
Someone is offering me an AIT seat for money. Is that real?▾
No. You get a seat only through KEA, COMEDK, VTU or the AIT admissions team. Do not pay any agent who promises a seat.
Where is the AIT campus?▾
AIT is on Acharya Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Road, Soladevanahalli, Bangalore 560107. You report at the admissions block on the campus.
How do I contact the AIT admissions team?▾

Is an AIT degree valid across India?▾
Yes. AIT is approved by AICTE and affiliated to VTU, so your degree comes from a state university. You can use it for jobs and higher studies.

AIT Bangalore Admission FAQs
Short answers to what students ask before they apply.
Does the 45% rule help students from other states?▾
No. Only Karnataka students in the SC, ST and Category 1 groups get the lower mark on a PGCET seat. If you come from another state, plan for 50%.
My university gives CGPA. How is it read as a percentage?▾
You use the conversion rule of the university that gave your degree. Keep a letter or page with that rule ready, because KEA and AIT will ask for it.
I have only a provisional degree certificate. Is that enough?▾
Yes, if your final degree certificate is not out yet. Bring the provisional one when you report, and give the final one when your university sends it.
Can a B.Com graduate join MCA at AIT?▾
Yes, if Business Maths or Business Statistics was one of your subjects and you have 50%. Check your marks cards before you apply.
What is the difference between the three MCA tracks?▾
The plain MCA covers software and programming. The Cloud Architect track adds cloud computing, and the Cyber Security track adds network and data safety. Pick the one that matches the job you want.
Which MBA areas can I choose at AIT?▾
You can choose Finance, Marketing, Human Resource or Applied Finance. The choice is made in the second year, so you have a full year to decide.
Does the MBA have extra classes beyond the VTU syllabus?▾
Yes. AIT adds SQL and Power BI in the second semester, Power BI in the third and Tableau in the fourth. These help you in data and analyst jobs.
Does AIT give anything free with the MBA?▾
The MBA brochure says students get a tablet, a global immersion programme, soft skills training and a LinkedIn Learning licence. Ask the admissions team what is offered for your batch.
Is KMAT accepted for the MBA?▾
Yes, for management seats. AIT also takes CMAT and MAT. Apply online with your score card and the admissions team will contact you.
Can I join a management seat after KEA counselling?▾
Yes, if seats are still open. Seats that stay empty after KEA rounds may also be filled by AIT. Keep in touch with the admissions office during September and October.
Are uniform and books part of the MBA fee?▾
No. The fee covers tuition, VTU registration, eligibility, lab, library and sports. Uniform, stationery and the VTU exam fee are paid separately.
I am working. Can I still join the MBA?▾
The MBA at AIT is a full time course with daily classes. If you want to keep your job, you will need leave or a sponsorship letter from your employer.
What extra paper does a sponsored student bring?▾
Bring the sponsorship letter from your office or sponsor on letterhead. AIT lists it for sponsored students along with the usual originals.
When do PG classes usually start at AIT?▾
For the 2026 batch, the pre arrival guide gave dates between 20 Oct and 28 Oct 2026. Expect a similar time in 2027, after the KEA rounds end.
What happens in the first week of the MBA or MCA?▾
You attend an orientation and take a short test on the second day. A bridge course follows to fill gaps from your degree, then a second test checks your progress.
Which scholarships can PG students get?▾

Does AIT have hostel rooms for PG students?▾

Can students from abroad apply for the MBA or MCA?▾
Yes. You need passport and visa copies, a bank statement and travel insurance. AIT offers an airport pickup for first time international students if you email your travel details.
Someone is offering me an AIT seat for money. Is that real?▾

AIT Bangalore Admission FAQs
Short answers to what students ask before they apply.
Which departments take Ph.D scholars at AIT?▾
You can pick any of the 11 VTU research centres at AIT, across eight engineering and management areas and three sciences. Choose the one that matches your master's subject, since the centre checks that match first.
Who holds the entrance test for research?▾
VTU holds it, not AIT. You pass the VTU test first, and then apply to an AIT research centre.
Is the Ph.D degree given by AIT or VTU?▾
VTU gives you the degree, because AIT is affiliated to VTU. Your certificate shows the VTU name.
Does AIT give a fellowship to Ph.D scholars?▾
AIT has not printed a fellowship for research scholars. If you hold a UGC or CSIR fellowship, you can bring it with you. Ask your guide about project funding too.
Can I do a Ph.D in management at AIT?▾
Yes. The MBA department is one of the research centres. You need a master's degree in management or a related subject.
Can I do a Ph.D in Physics, Chemistry or Maths?▾
Yes. AIT has research centres in all three. You need a master's degree in that subject.
Can I do a Ph.D in computer applications?▾
Yes. The MCA department is a VTU research centre. An MCA or a master's in computer science is the usual starting point.
Is there research money at AIT?▾
AIT says over 85 project proposals worth more than INR 31.25 Crores go out each year. Ask your guide which projects are funded and if a place is open.
How much research does AIT publish?▾
AIT says its teams publish over 350 papers a year and hold 65 patents and copyrights. This tells you the labs are active.
I am working. Can I still do a Ph.D?▾
Yes, but you need a no objection letter from your employer. Get it before you register with VTU.
What should I bring to the research committee meeting?▾
Bring your research idea, your master's marks cards and a photo ID. Be ready to explain why the topic matters and how you will do it.
How do I pick a research guide?▾
Read the recent papers of teachers in your department and write to the ones whose work matches your idea. A guide who has time for you matters more than a famous name.
Do I need a migration certificate for the Ph.D?▾
Yes, if your master's degree is from a university other than VTU. Apply for it as soon as you are selected.
Can I get an education loan for research?▾
Yes, a bank can give one with your admission letter. A loan does not cut the fee, so plan the repayment.
Does AIT have a hostel for research scholars?▾
AIT has separate boys and girls hostels with food included. Ask the hostel office at hostelmanager@acharya.ac.in if a room is free for scholars.
Is the research path different from PG admission?▾
Yes. Research seats do not go through KEA or PGCET. You go through the VTU test and the AIT research centre instead.
Can SC and ST research scholars get a scholarship?▾
If you are SC or ST, you can apply on the Karnataka State Scholarship Portal. Keep your caste and income certificate ready.
Does AIT have a good library for research?▾
AIT won a Best Technology Enabled Library award from TCS iON. Ask the library for access to journals in your subject when you join.
Is AIT recognised for research funding?▾
AIT is recognised under UGC sections 2(f) and 12(B). This helps you apply for many government research grants.
How long does a Ph.D take?▾
VTU sets the minimum and maximum years for a Ph.D. Most scholars finish in three to five years, so plan your time and money for that.
Can I do course work while working?▾
Ask the research centre about the timing before you register. You must attend the course work and pass it, so plan your leave early.

Is an AIT degree valid across India?▾
Yes. AIT is approved by AICTE and affiliated to VTU, so your degree comes from a state university. You can use it for jobs and higher studies.
Admission to the Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Data Science at Acharya Institute of Technology is primarily through entrance exams such as COMEDK and KCET, with a management quota also available. COMEDK is primarily for non-Karnataka students, while KCET caters to Karnataka residents. For admission, candidates must have completed Class 12 with at least 60% aggregate and 45% in PCM. The COMEDK cutoff generally ranges up to 20,000 in ranks for Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), while for Information Science and Engineering (ISE), ranks can range from 22,000-25,000.
Admission through the management quota is also an option and typically incurs higher fees, around 4 lakhs annually for CSE. The counselling process is conducted in three rounds. The fee for the first year must be paid upon initial round allocation and is refundable only until the second round. Reservation benefits are limited to SC, ST, and OBC students under state quota, with no reservation advantages for COMEDK entrants. Application forms are accessible on the COMEDK website and the admission process is mainly online.
Note that the KCET and COMEDK exams are conducted annually, and the admission procedure is relatively straightforward, facilitated by college support throughout the steps.
