IMI New Delhi Admission FAQs
Short answers to what students ask before they apply.
Can one IMI form cover Kolkata and Bhubaneswar too?▾
Yes. The INR 2,250 form fee covers any two year programme at New Delhi, and also IMI Kolkata and IMI Bhubaneswar. Pick every campus you want on the form, so you do not pay twice.
Does IMI New Delhi accept CMAT, MAT or NMAT for the two year PGDM?▾
No. The three two year programmes take only CAT, XAT or GMAT. CMAT, MAT and NMAT count only for the Executive PGDM, so plan your tests with that in mind.
Can I apply before my GMAT result comes?▾
Yes. Type 0 in the GMAT score box when you fill the form. Email your scorecard to admissions@imi.edu as soon as you get it, or the form may be rejected.
Is there a fixed CAT percentile I must reach?▾
No. IMI says it has no fixed cutoff. It looks at your marks, work and test score together, so a strong profile can make up for a slightly lower score.
Does my category get any seat quota at IMI?▾
No. IMI says the process is the same for every category. Your category does not change your shortlist, but family income matters for the tuition fee waiver.
What is the video assessment?▾
It is a recorded round before the final interview. You answer questions on camera, and IMI checks how you think and how clearly you speak. Practise speaking for one or two minutes on a topic.
How should I get ready for the IMI interview?▾
Know why you want an MBA and what you want to do after it. Read business news daily. Be ready to talk about your college projects, your work and your hobbies.
Can I apply to PGDM, PGDM (HRM) and PGDM (B&FS) together?▾
Yes. You can pick more than one programme on the same form. Rank them in the order you really want, because an offer comes for one programme.
Who should pick PGDM (HRM) over the PGDM?▾
Pick HRM if you are sure you want to work in hiring, training and people roles. Pick the general PGDM if you want to keep marketing, finance and other options open.
Who should pick PGDM (B&FS)?▾
Pick it if you want a job in banks, insurance, fintech or investment firms. It teaches money and markets in depth, so a liking for numbers helps.
Is the IMI PGDM the same as an MBA?▾
AIU treats the IMI PGDM as equal to an MBA, and AICTE approves it. You can use it for jobs, government posts and higher study in India and abroad.
Is hostel stay a must in the two year PGDM?▾
No. IMI has limited hostel rooms and gives them first come, first served. If you get one, add the hostel and mess fee to your budget, and plan a flat nearby if you do not.
How much do the IMI hostel rooms cost?▾
For 2026-27, a twin room with its own bathroom cost INR 3.83 Lakhs a year with mess. A twin room with a shared bathroom cost INR 2.99 Lakhs a year with mess.
Can my company sponsor me for the PGDM?▾
Yes. Your company must give a letter that it will pay all fees. The sponsored fee is higher, INR 36.97 Lakhs for 2026-28, and you get no placement help.
Can a foreign national apply to IMI New Delhi?▾
Yes, with a valid foreign passport and a GMAT score. The 2026-28 fee for foreign nationals was USD 26,720. Foreign students get no placement help from IMI.
Who decides the tuition fee waiver?▾
IMI picks a limited number of admitted students whose family income is below INR 8 Lakhs. It decides within a month of classes, based on merit in the admission process. Keep a valid income certificate ready.
What if I leave after paying the first instalment?▾
If you leave before classes start, IMI returns your fee minus up to INR 1,000. After classes start, you get back only the security money unless your seat is filled.
When are the later fee instalments due?▾
For the 2026-28 batch, the second and third were due on 10 Sep and 10 Dec. The fourth was due on 25 Mar of the next year. Expect similar dates for your batch.
Does IMI New Delhi run a student exchange?▾
Yes. In the fifth or sixth term, you can study for a term at a partner school abroad. Short global trips are also offered, so ask about them after you join.
What does a strong IMI application look like?▾
Steady marks from Class 10 to your degree, a good test score and clear goals help most. Work experience, sports, clubs and leadership roles add to your profile.
Where is the IMI New Delhi campus?▾
The campus is at B-10, Qutab Institutional Area, New Delhi 110016. The nearest metro stations are on the Yellow and Magenta lines. Your offer letter tells you where to report.
How will IMI send me updates?▾
IMI writes to the email and phone number on your form and posts results on its admission portal. Use an email you check daily, and log in often.
Is IMI New Delhi approved by AICTE?▾
Yes. AICTE approves its programmes, and it holds AACSB, AMBA, SAQS and NBA accreditation. You can use your diploma for jobs and higher study.
Can an agent get me a seat at IMI?▾
No. IMI fills seats only through its own form and selection. Anyone who asks for money for a seat is cheating you, so report it to admissions@imi.edu.
Whom do I call with a question about admission?▾
Call 7428894648 or write to admissions@imi.edu. For the Executive PGDM, write to admissions.xpgdm@imi.edu. Keep your form number ready.

The Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) program at the International Management Institute requires candidates to apply through CAT, XAT, or GMAT scores. For a strong application, a CAT score typically ranges from 82 to 95 percentile, while XAT scores range from 82 to 94 percentile. The GMAT score is also considered, particularly if it reflects high merit. The application process involves filling out a form available on the IMI website with a typical fee of approximately Rs.
2200, and submissions are usually accepted until the end of January. The selection process does not include reservations but offers scholarships for OBC and EWS candidates. Key components of the admissions process include an extempore and a personal interview, where candidates’ entire profiles, including academic background and work experience, are evaluated. Interviews are accessible online, and candidates can select their preferred dates for the process. Communication regarding admission outcomes can be ambiguous with candidates placed on an admission, waitlist, or hold status.
A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 60% marks in graduation is commonly required for eligibility, and some candidates may need a strong profile to secure a place with a lower percentile. The absence of a group discussion in the selection process is noted, although its inclusion could potentially benefit holistic evaluation.
How expensive is it to get management quota seats at the IMT in Ghaziabad the IMI in Delhi and the MDI in Gurgaon for an MBA
Akriti Banerjeelives in New Delhi
Management quota seats are seats at colleges in India that are set aside for members of the management, trust, clergy, and VIPs. According to the institution, there are between 5 and 10% of seats available. The college and trust have complete discretion over who gets to sit in these seats. The existence of management quota seats in institutes like IMT Ghaziabad, IMI Delhi, and MDI Gurgaon is not well known. For students who are unable to get admission on their own through the entrance tests, this opportunity is available. The fees for these seats are not disclosed by the institutes on any platform. For admission to the management quota seat, you have to contact these colleges at the phone numbers provided on their websites. You first have to check your eligibility and then have to pay a huge amount.
I am interested in marketing and operations. Which college should I choose for this - IMI Delhi or IIT Roorkee?
Kushagra GuptaPGDM in Banking and Financial Services, International Management Institute (Graduated 2020)
If you are a marketing enthusiast, IMI Delhi is a much preferable option for you. IIT Roorkee is known for its specialization in Operations and Systems only. To avail of an enriching B School experience one must try not to go for a technical institute unless it is IIT Bombay or IIT Delhi. While the Department of Managements of IITs do excel in Operations they lack in domains such as finance, marketing, HR, and strategic management. Only the exclusive B Schools excel in these specializations.
The main requisites of a rich B School life are
Clubs and committees
Excessive corporate exposure
Relevant curriculum
Corporate exposure is sought through corporate competitions, guest lectures , conclaves, and live projects owing to alumni connections and the location advantage of being in Delhi or Mumbai. At a B School the clubs and committees are initiated and operated by Management students themselves whereas, at IITs, it’s the younger BTech graduates that do so.
So it’s the core B School life you will be missing out if you chose DOM at any Technical institute. No doubt the fees are much lower than an exclusive B School but you will be missing other things big time.
What are my chances to convert IMI New Delhi with CAT 92.3 percentile and Xth 79.8%, 12th 86% with a year gap graduation 60.27%?
Ganesh RMBA Marketing & Finance, International Management Institute (2008)
Considering the criteria and the recent trends, I deem your profile to fare quite well provided that you perform well throughout the selection process.
Once you have been shortlisted you have to face 3 rounds during the selection process
Written ability test
Psychometric test
Interview+Extempore
Your mentioned score combined with your great performance during these rounds will increase your chances of admission.
Which college should I prefer for Finance: XIMB BM, IMT G or IMI Delhi?
Pinaki DasguptaWorked at Engineers India Limited
In choosing your B-school, the primary factors that you should consider are, the specialization you want to opt for and the ROI you are expecting. In your case, you want to go for Finance. The list of preferred B Schools you mentioned has similar fees and placements so I will be answering solely based on specialization.
Finance: IMI Delhi is the best choice of all the options when it comes to Finance. A premium quality crowd opts for Finance at IMI Delhi and the main reason is the customized MBA program in Finance. Many companies of the Finance sector visit the campus for placements. Finance students also avail the best opportunities and guidance and have a higher level of security than Marketing students.
However, in case you have more than 2-3 years of work experience, IMI Delhi is not a suitable option. Although you may stand out among your batchmates, the companies visiting the campus are not aware of this and offer roles suitable for less experienced students only. So your work experience may not be credited here.
The general preference order should be: IMI D>XIMB>IMT G
Do people from NIT take admission in IMI Delhi and IMT Ghaziabad for their MBA?
Shashank SrivastavaStudied at Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad
People from NIT and IITs should definitely get admission to IMI Delhi or IMT Ghaziabad. Unlike the general misconception that people from ivy graduate colleges should go for the top PG colleges also, IMT and IMI are rather good choices. If an Institute helps you to build your career then the brand value hardly matters.
I have seen many people who after graduation from NIT and IITs join IMI and are glad to do so. My brother completed his graduation from DTU Delhi and joined IMI for MBA and claims that he was able to learn so many new things in the first 6 months. One of my friends also joined IMI after completing his Engineering from NIT Uttarakhand.
So what I actually mean is people from NIT and IIT can definitely pursue their MBA from IMI and IMT and won’t regret this decision.
