VJTI B.Tech FAQs

Ques. Why does VJTI Computer Engineering have a higher MHT-CET cutoff than COEP Pune CSE?

Ans. VJTI Computer Engineering closed at 99.95 percentile (GOPENS, 2025) versus COEP CSE at 99.45 percentile. This reflects VJTI’s Mumbai location, which creates higher demand from students who prefer to stay in the city, and its strong CS placement record (INR 16.35 LPA average in 2024-25). Both colleges attract the top tier of MHT-CET aspirants, but VJTI CS is marginally harder to enter.

Ques. What is the Sandwich pattern in VJTI Production Engineering and is it beneficial?

Ans. The Sandwich pattern in VJTI Production Engineering includes 2 full semesters of mandatory industrial training in Years 3 and 4. Students alternate between academic semesters at VJTI and training stints at partnered manufacturing firms, giving graduates higher hands-on exposure before degree completion. Students must arrange training placements at partner companies and the programme takes marginally longer to complete than a standard full-time B.Tech.

Ques. Can JEE Main candidates get into VJTI B.Tech without an MHT-CET score?

Ans. Yes. DTE Maharashtra reserves 20% of seats at VJTI for All India category candidates via JEE Main, with no MHT-CET score required. The JEE Main General Open closing rank for VJTI Computer Engineering was in the range of 18,000 to 20,000 in the 2025 cycle under this quota. JEE Main candidates register through the same DTE Maharashtra CAP portal and participate in the same counselling rounds as MHT-CET candidates.

Ques. Is the VJTI B.Tech degree awarded by VJTI or by the University of Mumbai?

Ans. The VJTI B.Tech degree is awarded by the University of Mumbai. VJTI is an autonomous institute affiliated to Mumbai University, which means it designs its own curriculum and conducts its own exams, but the certificate carries the University of Mumbai name. This differs from COEP Technological University, which is an independent university and awards its own degrees. Both carry equivalent recognition with employers.

Ques. How do placements differ across tech versus core engineering branches at VJTI?

Ans. Computer Engineering averaged INR 16.35 LPA in 2024-25, with strong placements from Mumbai-based tech firms. IT and E&TC average around INR 12 to 14 LPA. Core branches like Mechanical and Civil average INR 6 to 9 LPA, with placements in Mumbai’s manufacturing and infrastructure sectors. Textile Technology has lower average packages but niche demand from the textile and apparel export industry.
