About MICA Ahmedabad FPM

MICA Ahmedabad offers the Fellow Programme in Management, or FPM, a four-year, full-time doctoral course with 8 seats. AICTE approves it, and AIU treats it as equal to a PhD. MICA stands #35 in Collegedunia's Management ranking 2025 and #33 in NIRF Management 2025. The tuition is fully waived, so the only fee you pay is the INR 2,500 application fee. Fellows who are not sponsored get a stipend of INR 45,500 to INR 48,500 a month, about INR 5.46 LPA at the start. You apply through MICAT, then clear an online screening interview and an on-campus round. The research areas are marketing, communication, consumer culture, digital platforms and media.

MICA FPM Fees

The total fees with room and living is INR 7.14 Lakhs, while the fees without them is INR 2,500. The tuition fees is INR 0, because MICA waives it for every fellow who is not sponsored. You pay only the INR 2,500 application fee when you register for MICAT. The programme lists no hostel fee, so you rent a room and pay for food yourself. The stipend is paid on top of the waiver.

Should you pick FPM at MICA Ahmedabad?

This course suits students who want to spend four years on research in marketing, media or communication and then teach.

Pick it if:
You want to research marketing or media: MICA's research areas are strategic marketing, communication, consumer culture, digital platforms, and media and entertainment.
You want a guide who knows you well: the batch has only 8 seats, and a thesis committee with an international academic guides each fellow.
You cannot pay fees for four years: the tuition is waived and a stipend of INR 45,500 a month is paid to you.
You want time abroad for your research: every fellow spends three months at a partner university abroad, and MICA pays for it.
Skip it if:
You want to research finance or operations: MICA's research areas are marketing, communication and media, so your topic must fit one of them.
You want a job within two years: the FPM takes four years and ends with a thesis, so MICA's two-year PGDM fits a quick job better.
You need a room from the college: the 2027 admission page lists the FPM as non-residential, so you rent your own room near campus.
Your Master's marks are below 60%: the 60% First Class rule is fixed, so you cannot apply this year.
Counsellor's advice
If your research idea fits marketing, media or communication, finish your proposal first and apply in MICAT I. If your topic fits none of them, pick a programme that teaches your area.

FAQs on MICA Ahmedabad FPM

Straight answers to what students ask before they decide.

Is the MICA FPM worth four years of my time?▾
Yes, if you want to teach or do research in marketing, media or communication. The tuition is waived and the stipend is INR 45,500 to INR 48,500 a month, so you study without paying fees. If you want a company job soon, the FPM is the long route, so check whether MICA's two-year PGDM fits you better.
What job will I get after the FPM?▾
Most fellows become faculty members at business schools. Others take research roles at companies, advise on policy or start their own ventures. MICA does not publish a salary for fellows, so ask current fellows about their offers when you visit for the on-campus round.
Who should not take the FPM at MICA?▾
Skip it if your research topic is finance, operations or HR, because MICA's areas are marketing, communication and media. Skip it too if you need a room from the college, since the 2027 admission page lists the programme as non-residential. If either applies to you, look for a programme that fits your topic.
Should I apply in MICAT I or wait for MICAT II?▾
Apply in MICAT I if your proposal is ready. The MICAT I form closes on 21 Nov 2026 and the exam is on 5 Dec 2026, while MICAT II is on 12 Feb 2027. With only 8 seats, an early try still leaves MICAT II as your second chance.
Is the stipend good for living in Ahmedabad?▾
For most fellows, yes. The stipend starts at INR 45,500 a month, and the room and living estimate in the fee block is INR 1.78 Lakhs a year. You find the room yourself, so plan the first month's rent and deposit before you join.
Can I take the FPM if my employer sponsors me?▾
Yes, but you do not get the fellowship. Sponsored fellows do not get the tuition waiver or the stipend, so your employer pays the fee. Ask the FPM office for the sponsored fee before your employer signs the sponsorship letter.
Is a 60% Master's safe, or do I need more?▾
60% (First Class) is the rule, and it is enough to apply. The call depends on your MICAT score, your research proposal and the interviews. If you are close to 60%, make your proposal strong and show research work, such as a paper or a project.
Is the FPM better than a university PhD for me?▾
It depends on how you like to work. The FPM is a four-year programme that AIU treats as equal to a PhD, with coursework of 53 credits before the thesis. If you want set coursework and a monthly stipend, the FPM suits you; if you want to start the thesis at once, a university PhD may suit you better.
Is a batch of 8 good for my research?▾
Yes, for most fellows. The FPM has only 8 seats and a batch usually has 5 to 8 members, so each fellow works closely with a faculty guide. The thesis committee also includes an international academic. If you like working with one mentor, this setup suits you.
Should I expect time abroad during the FPM?▾
Yes. Every fellow spends three months at a partner university abroad, and MICA pays for it. MICA also funds conference travel, so plan to present your work at national and international conferences before you submit your thesis.
How do I get admission to the MICA FPM?▾
Register for MICAT and pay the INR 2,500 fee. Send a research proposal of up to 1,000 words, a two-page statement of purpose and two letters of recommendation. Then clear the online screening interview and the on-campus written test, presentation and personal interview.
What is the full fee for the FPM?▾
The only fee is the INR 2,500 application fee, because the tuition is waived for every fellow who is not sponsored. With room, food and living for four years, the estimate comes to INR 7.14 Lakhs. The toggle in the fee block shows both totals.
