    Sports Management Admission Test (SMAT) 2020: Application Form (Extended), Exam Date, Pattern and Syllabus

    IISM is condcuting Sports Management Admission Test (SMAT) today i.e. March 30, 2020 online (due to COVID-19 outbreak), wherein candidates can appear for the test from their home. The exam link will be activated at sharp 11:00 AM. Another round of exam is scheduled for April 15, 2020 for which interested candidates can register till April 10, 2020.

    The paper is conducted to grant opportunities to students seeking admission in undergraduate, postgraduate, and postgraduate diploma courses offered by the institute. SMAT is conducted in three slots.

    The paper is designed in a specific way that tests the most important and basic quality of the candidates - Sports Management. SMAT focuses on candidate’s liking and awareness of the sports industry and their sagacity towards the business angle of sports.

    How to appear for SMAT 2020 Online?

    Considering the outbreak of pandemic Coronavirus/ COVID-19, IISM is conducting SMAT Online on March 30, 2020 & April 15, 2020, instead of organizing it in the designated test centres across India. Candidates appearing for this particular SMAT round would be appearing for it from their home online. Also, the shortlisted candidates would be appearing for their interview (round 2) online..

    Here is a list of essentials that each candidate needs to be equipped with while attempting SMAT online.

    1. A good/ high-speed internet connection
    2. A laptop/ computer with a working webcam along with flash
    3. Latest browser
    4. A microphone/ headset
    5. Your admit card
    6. ID proof, for eg: Aadhar Card

    The test:

    • The registered candidates will be provided with a link as well as login ID & password unique for every candidate.
    • The link activates sharp at 11:00 am, the time schedule for SMAT.
    • Candidates will appear for SMAT first and after completion of the time will appear for Caseletts.

    IISM offers Full-Time Business Management Program in four courses:

    1. Bachelors in Sports Management (BSM) degree from Mumbai University - 3 year program
    2. Master's in Sports Management (MSM) degree from Mumbai University - 2 year program
    3. Post Graduate Program in Sports & Wellness Management (PGPS & WM) - 11 month autonomous program
    4. Post Graduate Program in Sports Event Management - 11 month program

    Admission to these programs can be seeked through SMAT, along with MAH-CET (reserved for candidates belonging to Maharashtra).

    Eligibility Criteria for admission through SMAT:

    • Open category

    Minimum required percentage at the HSC and graduation level (Bachelor’s degree) is 50% for applicants belonging to the Open category.

    • Reserved Category (Maharashtra Domicile applicants only)

    Minimum required percentage at the HSC and graduation level (Bachelor’s degree) is 45% for applicants belonging to the Reserved category.

    Eligibility Criteria for admission through MAH-CET:

    Post Graduate applicants can also apply via their MAH-CET scores.

    • For Open category, the minimum required MAH CET percentile is 50.
    • For Reserved Category, the minimum required MAH CET percentile is 45.

    Admission Process at IISM through SMAT

    A very stringent admission process is followed at IISM which helps in further scrutinization of candidates. The entire process has been designed in a manner that can accommodate students who can be transformed to become thoughtful leaders, ready to take up challenges in the sports market place in India and abroad.

    A holistic admission process is followed in order to admit students in Sports Management Programs. The process is divided into 3 stages:

    1. Stage 1: SMAT (Sports Management Admission Test);

    Note: A Caselet is a set of information given in a paragraph form, out of which a candidate is required to organize the data, make tables and graphs.

    While a candidate is filling in SMAT Application form, s/he needs to make sure of following the below mentioned instructions:-

    1. SMAT - Sports Management Admission Test Entrance exam will be for 80 Marks and will comprise the following:
    • Quantitative Analysis

    1. MAH-MBA / MMS CET – Master of Sports Management and PGP in Sports and Wellness Management aspirants can apply with their MAH-CET scores and will get a waiver from appearing for SMAT Entrance exam.
    2. Case lets & Overall Performance will cover Academic score, Sports Achievements & Extra-curricular Activities for 100 marks

    The Case lets are designed to extract and evaluate the best of knowledge of the aspirant. It consists of cases—that will give a fair idea on how aspirants think, their outlook towards circumstances, knowledge on current affairs and proficiency in making Plan of Action.

    Through Case lets, the conducting body intends to estimate how would aspirants react to or take an action on situations that he’d face in the rapidly evolving Sports Management sector. The test is specially designed for the students from any educational and geographical background, who have keen interest in sports and have desire to make a career in sports management. This exam is conducted online & candidates will have to come at the allotted test center to appear for the test.

    Qualifying marks for all stages:

    A candidate needs to score a minimum of 50% in Stage 1 to qualify for Stage 2.

    Stage 2 - Panel Interview will be for 120 Marks. Candidate needs to score minimum of 60% cumulative of Stage 1 & 2 to secure admission at IISM

    SMAT paper consists of 5 sections consisting of 80 questions in total. A candidate is allotted 80 minutes wherein s/he will have to attempt the entire paper of 80 marks.

    SMAT 2020 Preparation Tips

    IISM tries to test a candidate’s aptitude in Mathematics, English, Logical Reasoning, with a special emphasis on his/her interest in sports ecosystem. The test, which is conducted online, helps the students shape the best possible career in sports. However, in order to crack the test, it is important for the candidate to prepare well.

    Preparation Tips for each section are given below.

    Quantitative Analysis:

    • It is important for a candidate to be clear and affluent with tricks in order to solve numerical problems easily and fast.
    • Know the mathematical formulas well to avoid spending longer time on word problems.

    Verbal Analysis:

    • The sectional questions will judge a reader’s reading abilities. So it is important to be aware and lay attention while going through the section.
    • The sectional would test a candidate's understanding of the language and communicative skills.

    Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation:

    • The section will test a student’s ability to extract logical data from a pool of information.
    • It is essential for a candidate to know how to apply and understand the data.
    • It is necessary for students to use logic rationally and then make decisions.

    Sports Awareness:

    SMAT paper gives a weightage of 30% to sports-related questions (covering all aspects of sports). Thus, it becomes mandatory for students to be acquainted with all aspects of sports including:

    SMAT 2020 Result

    The results for SMAT 2020 will be released on the official website of the International Institute of Sports Management. Candidates will have to login to their respective ids to check results. Below mentioned are the steps that will guide students to check their SMAT results:

    1. Visit the official website of IISM. After landing on the page, look for the link ‘SMAT’.
    2. On clicking over the SMAT link, the candidate will have to click on ‘SMAT Result’ tab.
    3. The candidate will be directed to a new window where three links will appear:
    • BSM (Bachelors in Sports Management)
    • MSM (Masters in Sports Management)
    • PGPSM (PGP in Sports & Wellness Management)
    1. The candidate will then have to select the course link that s/he has applied for and log in with his/her login credentials.
    2. On entering the required details, the result page will appear. Candidates are advised to keep take a print out of the result.

    Note: Since the students would be securing admissions before their final results for HSC/Graduation would be out, their admissions would be considered on provisional basis and it’s only after the submission of their final passing exam document that their admissions would be confirmed, as per GICED & University of Mumbai guidelines.

    SMAT 2020 FAQs

    Ques. I have completed my Bachelor’s from State University of Maharashtra. Am I eligible to appear for SMAT 2020?

    Ans. Any candidate who has secured 50% of marks in graduation (for open category) and 45% marks for reserved category, is eligible to apply for SMAT 2020. However, if in case who have MAH-CET scores available, you can apply through that too.

    Ques. SMAT is conducted how many times annually?

    Ans. SMAT examination is conducted once in a year. However, the paper is administered in three rounds. For 2020, the first round was concluded on January 25, 2020, and the last round is scheduled for March 2, 2020. Check SMAT Admission Calendar

    Ques. How is SMAT 2021 paper designed?

    Ans. SMAT consists of five sections namely- Quantitative Analysis, Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Verbal Ability, and Sports Awareness. There are in total 80 questions divided among 5 sections.

    Ques. If I clear SMAT 2020, will I get direct admission into the institute or are there any more stages to clear?

    Ans. Getting admission in IISM is divided into two stages – Stage 1: a candidate is required to clear SMAT examination; Stage 2: The examination is followed by Personal Interview of 120 marks.

    Ques. When will the result for SMAT 2020 be declared for the final round?

    Ans. The result of the final round of SMAT 2020 will be declared on March 13, 2020 after which the final list of the qualified candidates will be declared.
