| Programme | Language | Semester Contribution (EUR) | Semester Contribution (INR) | Entry Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| B.Sc. Computer Science | German | EUR 311.30 | INR 34,880 | Class 12 with 70% to 85% (recommended) plus Studienkolleg or one year of a recognised Indian degree |

Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg Admission 2027
OVGU admission runs on two intakes: the Winter Semester (October start) is the primary window and admits the widest programme list, while Summer Semester (April start) admits a limited set of Master’s programmes. Indian applicants apply through uni-assist or directly via the ISP portal, depending on the programme.
OVGU PG Admission Dates 2027
Master’s applicants should treat the July window as the anchor; APS verification through the Indian embassy typically takes eight to twelve weeks, so preparation must start much earlier.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Summer Semester 2027 application deadline (selected Master’s only) | Expected 15 January 2027 (based on prior cycle) | Limited to programmes with published Summer intake; verify on the programme page |
| Winter Semester 2027/28 application opens | Expected 15 April 2027 (based on prior cycle) | Most International Master’s programmes; portal via uni-assist or ISP |
| Winter Semester 2027/28 application deadline | Expected 15 July 2027 (based on prior cycle) | Some Master’s programmes close earlier; verify per programme |
| APS certificate verification | Start eight to twelve weeks before application deadline | Mandatory for Indian degree holders |
| Winter Semester 2027/28 begins | Expected October 2027 | Orientation runs in late September |

Planning note: APS is the single biggest reason Indian applications miss the July deadline. Book the APS interview in April, well before you upload transcripts to uni-assist, to keep six weeks of buffer for document translations.

Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Indian applicants must meet three parallel checks: academic eligibility on the Indian scale, English (or German) test minimums, and APS certification of their prior degree.
OVGU PG Requirements for Indian Applicants
- Academic: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum aggregate of 60% or CGPA 6.0/10 (recommended); competitive Master’s tracks recommend 65% or CGPA 6.5/10.
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT B2 (85) or C1 (95), IELTS B2 (6.5) or C1 (7.0), PTE Academic B2 (70) or C1 (76); IELTS Indicator and TOEFL iBT Home Edition accepted.
- APS verification: Mandatory certificate from the Academic Evaluation Centre at the German Embassy in New Delhi.
- Standout requirement: M.Sc. International Management, Marketing, Entrepreneurship recommends a GMAT or GRE score.
OVGU UG Requirements for Indian Applicants
- Academic: Class 12 with 70% to 85% (recommended); most Bachelor’s programmes additionally need one year of a recognised Indian degree or a completed Studienkolleg.
- Language: German C1 (DSH-2 or TestDaF 4) for German-taught tracks; English tests as listed above for English-taught tracks.
- APS certificate: Required for the Class 12 credential.
Key insight: Cambridge FCE Grade A and CAE Grade B or C are accepted alongside IELTS and TOEFL, but only Cambridge is exam-fee comparable in India — plan the exam five months before the deadline to allow re-attempts.
Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg Acceptance Rate 2027
OVGU does not publish an institution-wide acceptance rate. The overall admission rate for international Master’s programmes is 30% to 35% (estimated) based on programme intake counts against reported application volumes; the university’s admissions office confirms only individual programme quotas.
Programme-level selectivity varies sharply. Digital Engineering, Data and Knowledge Engineering and International Management sit at the tighter end, while niche engineering tracks admit a larger share of qualified applicants.
Reality check: Indian applicants with a 65% Bachelor’s aggregate, a valid APS certificate and a clean IELTS 6.5 profile clear the eligibility bar for most English-taught Master’s tracks. Rejections at OVGU are usually document-quality issues, not competitive cut-offs.

Indian students planning parallel MBA options in Germany should note that private MBA schools cost significantly more, since only public research universities like OVGU offer the fee-free semester-contribution structure.
Insider note: Studentenwerk-managed dorms in Magdeburg run EUR 220 to EUR 280 per month with utilities included, but the waiting list is long. Apply for a Studentenwerk room the same week your admission letter arrives.

Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg Campus, Facilities and Student Life
OVGU sits on a single unified campus in central Magdeburg, walkable from the Elbe river and the main railway station. The city runs a compact tram network, and the Deutschland-Ticket bundled in the semester fee covers all local transport.
- Location and transport: Campus 15 minutes on foot from Magdeburg Hbf; Berlin reachable in 90 minutes by ICE train.
- Housing: Studentenwerk operates seven residences with roughly 3,000 beds; international-student priority for one semester at arrival.
- Research facility: Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems shares the campus for joint doctoral work.
- Indian community: Active Indian Students’ Association at OVGU hosts Diwali, Holi and Republic Day events each year.
What Indian students say: Magdeburg is quieter than Berlin, which helps first-year focus; part-time jobs are fewer than in Munich or Frankfurt, so the 120-day work allowance covers essentials but rarely tuition-free students’ full living costs.
Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg Scholarships 2027
OVGU offers three institutional scholarship routes for international students, plus access to national schemes such as DAAD. None targets Indian nationals exclusively, but Indian applicants are consistently among the top recipient nationalities.

Planning note: The Deutschlandstipendium at OVGU is the highest-throughput route for Indian students but requires you to already be enrolled — you can only apply after the admission letter and matriculation, not alongside the application.

Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
OVGU does not run centralised campus placements in the Indian sense. Graduate outcomes rely on the university’s Career Service, the 18-month post-study job-search visa granted by German law, and Magdeburg’s engineering employer network.
- Median PG starting salary: EUR 45,000 to EUR 55,000 per year (INR 50.42 to INR 61.62 lakh) — market median for engineering and computer science graduates in Germany.
- Employment within six months: Not officially disclosed by OVGU; German public-university average sits at 85% for STEM Master’s graduates.
- Representative sector employers: Automotive (Volkswagen, BMW), industrial engineering (Siemens, Bosch), chemical and energy (BASF, Evonik) — verified employer partners of OVGU’s Career Service, not per-programme placement guarantees.
- Post-study visa: 18 months for graduate job search under Section 20 of the German Residence Act; converts to Blue Card on employment offer above the salary threshold.
- Careers support: OVGU Career Service runs annual careers fairs, one-to-one CV clinics and Indian-alumni mentorship pairings for engineering graduates.
Insider note: Indian graduates from OVGU’s Digital Engineering and Computer Science programmes see the fastest job offers because employers in Saxony-Anhalt actively recruit multilingual engineers; German A2 or B1 on the CV cuts job-search time significantly.
Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg vs Peer Universities
Peer set covers mid-tier German public research universities Indian applicants routinely benchmark against OVGU on QS position, semester contribution and engineering focus.
| University | QS World 2027 | CD Study Abroad Germany 2026 | Semester Contribution (EUR/INR) | Distinguishing Focus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg (OVGU) | #646 | #27 of 80 | EUR 311.30 / INR 34,880 | Digital Engineering, Chemical and Energy Engineering |
| TU Braunschweig | NA | NA | EUR 300 to EUR 400 (estimated) | Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering |
| University of Leipzig | NA | NA | EUR 220 to EUR 260 (estimated) | Business, Life Sciences, Humanities |
| Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg | NA | NA | EUR 110 to EUR 140 (estimated) | Pharmacy, Life Sciences |
| IIT Bombay (Indian comparator) | #134 | NA | INR 2.32 lakh per semester (M.Tech domestic) | Engineering research, Indian recruiter access |
OVGU wins on cost efficiency and Winter-intake predictability. It sits one tier below TU Munich, RWTH Aachen and TU Berlin on QS, but its fee-free structure and Saxony-Anhalt engineering employer network make it the strongest cost-adjusted pick for Indian Master’s applicants in the Top-1000 QS band.
Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg fits Indian Master’s applicants targeting a fee-free German STEM degree with predictable admissions and a total two-year investment near INR 20 to INR 27 lakh against a German starting salary median of INR 50 lakh. The OVGU official profile route works best for engineering and computer science candidates who can secure APS in time and treat the 18-month post-study visa as the ROI engine.
OVGU is not the pick for applicants chasing Global Top 200 brand names, applicants who cannot invest in German B1 for the local job market, or those needing centralised campus placements. Realistic alternative: RWTH Aachen for the higher QS band, or IIT Bombay for Indian recruiter access.
Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg FAQs
Ques. Which OVGU Master’s programmes are taught fully in English?
Ans. OVGU offers over 30 English-taught tracks across its nine faculties. The most popular for Indian applicants are M.Sc. Digital Engineering, M.Sc. Computer Science, M.Sc. Chemical and Energy Engineering, M.Sc. Data and Knowledge Engineering, M.Sc. Medical Systems Engineering and M.Sc. International Management, Marketing, Entrepreneurship. None of these require German at application, though B1 German helps for internships and post-study employment in Saxony-Anhalt.
Ques. How do Indian applicants submit an OVGU Master’s application?
Ans. Indian applicants apply either through the uni-assist portal or directly through the OVGU International Study Programs office, depending on the programme. Upload a scanned APS certificate, transcripts, degree certificate, English test score and CV. Uni-assist charges EUR 75 for the first programme and EUR 30 for each additional programme. Direct-application programmes are free but need originals certified by the German mission in India.
Ques. Does OVGU require GRE or GMAT for Indian applicants?
Ans. Most OVGU Master’s programmes do not require GRE or GMAT. M.Sc. International Management, Marketing, Entrepreneurship strongly recommends a competitive GMAT or GRE score to strengthen the file. Engineering and computer science tracks weight academic transcripts, project portfolios and Statement of Purpose instead. Indian applicants without GRE or GMAT can apply to Digital Engineering, Data and Knowledge Engineering and Computer Science without penalty.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at OVGU?
Ans. Yes. German student visa rules allow 120 full days or 240 half days of paid work per year for international students. Indian students at OVGU work as HiWi research assistants inside the university, in Magdeburg cafes and retail, or in nearby industrial companies. Hourly minimum wage in Germany is EUR 12.82 in 2026, so a part-time student typically earns EUR 400 to EUR 600 per month.
Ques. What is the APS certificate and why do Indian applicants need it?
Ans. The APS (Akademische Prüfstelle) certificate verifies the authenticity of Indian academic credentials for German universities. It is mandatory for every Indian applicant to a German degree programme since November 2022. Processing takes eight to twelve weeks and includes a document review and a short interview. Apply at the APS office at the German Embassy in New Delhi and pay the EUR 25 fee well before the OVGU deadline.
Ques. Which Indian banks give education loans recognised for OVGU?
Ans. Because OVGU sits in the QS Top 1000 and is a recognised public German university, all major Indian public and private lenders offer education loans for OVGU admits. State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, HDFC Credila, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank all sanction loans on the OVGU admission letter. Loans typically cover the Blocked Account, health insurance and living costs; tuition is not a component since OVGU charges none.
Ques. What Blocked Account balance do Indian students need for the OVGU visa?
Ans. The German student visa in 2026 requires a Blocked Account with EUR 11,904 for one academic year, released as EUR 992 per month. Indian applicants open the Blocked Account through providers like Fintiba, Expatrio or Coracle before booking the visa appointment at VFS in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai or Kolkata. Present the Blocked Account confirmation, OVGU admission letter, health insurance and APS certificate at the interview.
Ques. How long can Indian graduates stay in Germany after OVGU?
Ans. Germany grants Indian graduates of OVGU an 18-month post-study residence permit to search for a job aligned with the degree. During this period graduates can work in any role, including non-skilled, while searching. On securing a graduate-level offer above the Blue Card salary threshold (EUR 45,300 in 2026 for shortage occupations), the permit converts to a Blue Card leading to permanent residence after 21 to 33 months.

- I like everything about the university like academics, curriculum, teaching methods by the professors.
- The exam difficulty is of high level which I personally enjoy.
Dislikes
- The only drawback is the professors want the students to do their master thesis only in the university and reject all offers from the company.
- The topics available in the university are too advanced and takes 1-2+ years to complete. This will have a great impact on any students life as it delays their MS degree and face issues for full-time job search, monthly expenses, and visa extensions.
- Therefore, I would suggest anyone to prefer other universities.
Campus Life
- Excellent - many sports clubs, library, Weekly student parties, and annual events for different communities are organized in the university's seminar halls.

Campus Life
- The campus is distributed across a big neighbourhood, with departments and their workstations of their own, specific faculties and their clubs for academic and non-academic activities, sport, and library facilities are really great, with a versatile amount of things to explore and pursue.
Fees
- 312 euros per semester, including a Deutschland ticket

- This university has a world famous professors and teaching faculties in the field of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. In addition to that they also have large laboratories for experiment and research work. One of my senior during my bachelor degree time, introduced this university and their way of teaching. He also told me about the future job amd career prospect after this course. And now almost everyone from my batch got job and doing good in career.
- Primarily research projects that this university is doing they are great for master students one can directly do master thesis or internship under this big research projects get hands on experience. Other than that infrastructure and all are great too.
Dislikes
- Professors or campus can not unfortunately help in getting placement. One has to find everything on their own. Professors are interested in doing research and hiring great students for PhD purpose.
