AICTE to Regulate UG Courses in Management and Computer Applications from the Next Academic Year

New Delhi: All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will regulate undergraduate courses in management and computer applications, extending beyond their existing regulation of postgraduate programs from the forthcoming academic year.

This transition was communicated by the University Grants Commission (UGC), directing state public universities to disseminate this information among their affiliated institutes planning to offer BBA, BCA, and BMS programs. This directive aims at ensuring adherence to the new regulations established by the AICTE.

In an official notice, it is stated “Till date, the AICTE was regulating only the post-graduate programmes in management like MBA and computer applications (MCA). However, from next academic year, AICTE has decided to regulate institutions offering BBA, BMS, and BCA courses in view of maintaining uniform quality and academic standards across management and computer applications programs on the similar lines of post-graduate courses/ programmes (MCA/MBA).”

Institutes approved by the AICTE stand to benefit from various initiatives, including faculty development programs, student scholarship schemes, standardized curriculum models, and access to a repository of e-books in Indian languages via the e-Kumbh portal. Additionally, they can partake in schemes like Margdarshan, aimed at guiding institutions, and PARAKH, focusing on evaluation and accreditation.

The UGC elaborated on the scope of AICTE's jurisdiction, highlighting its control over technical education and related domains. Technical education encompasses an array of programs spanning engineering technology, architecture, town planning, management, pharmacy, applied arts, and crafts, among others, effectively positioning AICTE as the governing body for these educational avenues. 

This move signifies a holistic approach toward streamlining the oversight of technical education across diverse disciplines under a singular regulatory authority.
