Aligarh Muslim University Writes to MHRD against Downgrading

Aligarh Muslim University Chancellor Tariq Mansoor has written to the HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank regarding the fall in the University ranking in the NIRF list 2020.

Tariq Mansoor urged the HRD Minister that there is an error in the NIRF data due to which AMU has been ranked wrongly and to rectify the mistake.

In the letter, the AMU Chancellor said that a 'serious discrepancy' in terms of the Ph.D. output has adversely hit the institution's ranking. He also requested to rectify the mistake at the earliest as it will adversely affect the career prospects of the students.

Shasay Kidwai, AMU spokesperson said,"The University has 2,911 full-time research scholars while the NIRF data has mentioned just 33 research scholars. Because of the flawed data, the ranking has slipped from spot 18 to 31 this year."

NIRF ranking is based on these parameters: Teaching, Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity, and Perception. Kidwai added that AMU has scored well in four parameters out of five.

NIRF Ranking 2020 was released on June 11, 2020. The top three universities ranked in the list are IISc Bangalore, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
