Delhi Govt. to Upload Private School Fee Hike Details on DoE Site; Check Details Here

The Delhi High Court had directed the UT government to upload all fee hikes on the Directorate of Education(DoE) website. The decision came in response to a plea filed by an NGO, Justice for All.

Responding to the order, the AAP government intimated the High Court on November 10 that they would move to follow the order soon. According to the government, all previous orders that accented fee hike proposals from private schools will be uploaded on the DoE website soon.

What Will be Uploaded?

The Delhi government informed that in addition to the fee hike sanctions, they will also upload the related annexures, inspection reports, and orders whenever they are finalized. The government will also keep updating its database as and when required.

However, the government refused to upload file notings, orders, and other documents passed by DoE related to the sanction order as it is restricted under the Right to Information Act.

The Case so Far

The submissions by the government were made in response to a Public Interest Litigation seeking directions for DoE to upload fee hikes and approvals provided to private schools. Allegedly, due to the lack of information, many schools have taken advantage and increased their fees without proper sanctions.

The parents who have no way of knowing whether the hike is sanctioned or not, have no choice but to comply with the whims of schools.

Problems Due to Lack of Information

The PIL which was filed by advocate Khagesh B Jha contends that the fee hikes made by private unaided schools are sent to DoE and hence, once an order is passed, it should not be too difficult to upload it online.

The petition states that due to the lack of information regarding fee hikes, certain schools try to indulge in fraud. Since the parents do not know whether the fee hike is accepted or not, they have no choice but to pay the increased fee.

Directives of The Petition

The petition claimed that there was a fatal lack of information regarding the last approved fee hike and tuition fee information in the public domain. As such, it had sought direction from the Delhi High Court to ensure that DoE uploads all orders whether they be of rejection or acceptance of sanctions.
