The Delhi state government has said to the central government that the Bachelor of Vocational degrees should be treated at part with other graduate degrees. The graduates should be eligible to take the civil service examination.
The state government of Delhi has also raised the issue of universities such as Delhi University not treating students who studied vocational subjects in class 12 at par with students who studied conventional subjects.
The Deputy Chief Minister said, “The new National Education Policy (NEP) has talked about giving a push to vocational education but how can we have results when our system does not respect those with skill education.”
He added that students with vocational subjects or skill-based subjects in class 12 face a disadvantage in admissions in universities like DU.
NEP 2020 has noted that vocational education is seen as inferior to conventional education and deemed fit for students who are unable to cope with the latter. The policy aims to overcome the social status associated with vocational education and integrate vocational education into mainstream education gradually.

Beginning with exposure in middle and secondary school, quality vocational education will be integrated seamlessly into higher education to ensure that all children learn at least one vocation. “This would lead to emphasising the dignity of labour and importance of various vocations including Indian arts and artisanship,” the NEP said.
According to the policy, by 2025, at least 50 percent of learners in schools and colleges will have exposure to vocational education.
