Delhi University has taken a decision to cut down the extra allocation of seats for Undergraduate courses in colleges with low admission withdrawal rates.

duNew Delhi: Delhi University has recently taken a significant step to streamline the admission process by reducing the allocation of extra seats in colleges with low admission withdrawal rates for undergraduate courses.

Delhi University has also stated that the existing 30% reservation will be reduced to 15% for the ‘extra students’ in those colleges where the withdrawal rate is below 5 percent for the SC, ST, and PwBD categories. Only 10 percent of the extra admissions will be made in the General, OBC, and EWS categories in such colleges.

The official also stated that colleges with a withdrawal rate of more than 5 percent will be able to run with the same pre-existing formula. During the previous academic year, Delhi University adopted a strategy of admitting an additional 20 percent of students in each program and college under the General, OBC, and EWS categories, and 30 percent in the SC/ST/PwBD categories, aiming to maximise seat occupancy.

Delhi University announced this new policy on Wednesday and also launched the new CSAS (UG) portal. The total number of seats offered in the colleges is close to 71,000 and there are about 1,550 unique programs and other college combinations offered by the university.

"To achieve optimal seat allocation and to avoid the situation wherein seats become vacant due to dropouts, in the first round of allotment, 20 percent extra allotments will be done in UR, OBC-NCL, EWS categories, and 30 percent extra allotments will be done in SC, ST and PwBD categories for all programs in all colleges", Singh said, as reported by PTI.

Delhi University's decision to reduce extra seat allocation in colleges with low admission withdrawal rates is a significant step towards optimising the admission process.
