Education Minister Announces Deemed University Status for NCERT

New Delhi: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has been granted deemed university status. Dharmendra Pradhan the Union Minister for Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has announced this at an event to mark the 63rd foundation day of NCERT in the national capital.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has been a cornerstone of the Indian education system since its establishment in 1961. The council has established a formidable presence in research, and actively shaped school education, teacher training, and adult literacy. On becoming a research university, the council will offer opportunities for global opportunities and collaboration and contributions to the global educational landscape.

Minister also added that Jaduai Pitari — a play-based learning-teaching material tailored for children between the age group of 3-8 years developed by NCERT - will be introduced which will benefit 10 crore children of the country.

He also focused on developing content in his mother tongue, to achieve this, he recommended establishing Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Artificial Intelligence labs in all seven regional centers of NCERT. To make India a global research hub, these all things are necessary and all the centers should be equipped with the latest technologies from around the world with a future-ready infrastructure. He also urged the Council to standardize the teachers’ training curriculum to NCERT in its ECCE.

Considering the 'Fourth Industrial Revolution, Pradhan recommended creating small booklets on various subjects that will portray the facts of India’s Covid-19 management, Chandrayaan 3, etc.

He added, “ The new generations must be taught of the latest developments as well as Indian values and ethos.”

At the event, the students of the Regional Institute of Education, Bhopal, presented a skit on Jadui Pitara. Also performed songs in 22 languages. A short film was shown to the audience that portrays several significant initiatives and achievements of the Council.
