IACS Opens PhD Admission for Spring Semester 2027; Check Last Date to Apply

The Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) has opened PhD admissions for the Spring Semester 2027. Applications are accepted online at iacs.res.in. The programme is offered across six schools. Candidates can select up to two schools in a single form.

IACS is an autonomous research institute based in Kolkata. The Department of Science and Technology (DST) funds the institute. It operates under the Government of India. The institute conducts advanced research in basic and applied sciences.

IACS PhD Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must hold a Master's degree in a relevant discipline. General category applicants need at least 55 per cent marks. The minimum is 50 per cent for reserved categories. This includes SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), and PwBD candidates.

Applicants must be below 28 years as on the closing date. Age relaxation applies as per Government of India norms. A valid national fellowship such as CSIR-UGC NET, GATE, or INSPIRE is required.

Documents Required for Application

Applicants must upload scanned copies of key documents. The institute may ask for original documents during the interview round.

• Master's degree marksheets or latest semester results
• Valid fellowship or qualifying examination certificate

Fellowship and Application Fee

Selected candidates will receive a monthly fellowship. The amount depends on IACS, CSIR, UGC, or INSPIRE fellowship rules. House rent and contingency grants are given as per rules.

The application fee is Rs 1,200 for General and OBC candidates. SC, ST, and PwBD candidates pay Rs 600. Fees are payable online through the admission portal.

IACS PhD Selection Process

Selection is based on academic merit and interview performance. The institute shortlist

s candidates after reviewing applications. Shortlisted candidates are called for interviews at the IACS campus.

Interviews may include subject-specific tests at the school level. Candidates must bring original documents on the interview day. The final selection list will be released after the interviews conclude.
