Due to the coronavirus pandemic, most of the IIMs may not revise the course fees for the MBA course this year.
Every year, the annual fee is increased by two to three percent by the IIMs, but this step will be skipped by many IIMs for the academic session of 2020; among them is IIM Ahmedabad.
Though the IIMs are not increasing the fee, many are reluctant to waive off fees, something that many students are demanding.
According to the director of IIM Udaipur, waiving off fees would not be possible as the institutes are bearing the operational costs of the campuses. Though students are currently taking lessons online, they will return to the campuses when they receive instructions from the MHRD.
Apparently, the operational cost of the campuses has remained the same during the lockdown. The director of IIM Indore said that the primary costs incurred are payments to the faculty and staff. In addition, institutes have invested a lot to build sound infrastructure, including Learning Management Systems, for smooth online education.
The director also said that as campus experience plays a pivotal role in developing the personality of students, the entire academic year cannot be held online.
Most of the institutes intend to resume conventional classes in mid-July and welcome the new batches in mid-August.
