Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi will launch a campus outside India, said director V Ramgopal Rao. He also stated that they are very interested in launching IIT Delhi outside India but the discussion to set up a campus abroad is at a preliminary stage as of now.
V Ramgopal Rao, held a press conference to brief about the 51st annual convocation ceremony of IIT Delhi which is to be held on November 7, 2020. PM Narendra Modi will be the chief guest of the event.
There is a good increase in the number of students at IIT Delhi. The institute has witnessed a total of 10,900 students in the year 2020 which is comparatively high to 9,793 students in 2019.
Over 1,500 students will be awarded degrees on November 7, 2020, out of which a majority of them would be postgraduate students.

IIT Delhi: Graduating Students
IIT Delhi has a total of 3,131 postgraduate students, 3,319 Ph.D. students, and 4,450 bachelor's degree students.
Rao stated, "So, 60 percent are postgraduate students and only 40 percent are undergraduate students. This is a significant milestone. It is more of a postgraduate institute."
Candidates who have graduated in the year 2019 will be conferred degrees in the event, which includes 744 B.Tech students, 522 M.Tech students, and 298 Ph.D. students.
Out of the 298 Ph.D. students who are going to be awarded degrees, every third student is a woman. It is a significant development that 30% of graduates are women, said Rao.
IIT Delhi: Alumni Awards
IIT Delhi has come up with a new award to be awarded for the alumni of the institute namely the Graduates of Last Decade (GOLD) Award, informed Naveen Garg, Dean of alumni affairs, and international program.
The Alumni Award is to be given in two categories to students - Entrepreneurship and Teaching & Research.
The awardees are Sanjam Garg, professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and Pankaj Chaddah, co-Founder Zomato and Mindhouse.
A total of 8 awardees were announced including the five distinguished alumni awardees, two GOLD awardees, and one distinguished alumni service awardee.

IIT Delhi: New Programs
Rao also stated in the press conference that IIT Delhi has introduced 5 new postgraduate programs. The five PG programs are:
- MTech in cybersecurity
- MSc in economics
- MSc in cognitive Sciences
- Joint PG diploma with National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai
- MS Research in the center for automotive research and tribology
Two BTech programs were also introduced including B.Tech in Engineering and Computational Mechanics and B.Tech in Materials Engineering.
