Jammu and Kashmir has announced a four percent reservation of seats in engineering and medical colleges for students from Ladakh.
This decision was made at a meeting administered by the Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam. The meeting was held to review the status of reservation of seats for students belonging to Ladakh in professional institutions for the academic year 2020-21.
The reservation in professional institutions is governed by the terms of the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act and Rules which have been amended after the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir. The Act does not apply to the newly-created union territory of Ladakh.
The four percent of seats have been reserved keeping in mind that there is a lack of professional institutions in Ladakh. Accordingly, 24 seats from the engineering colleges and 35 seats from medical colleges will be deducted from the available seats.
Reservation for the residents of Jammu and Kashmir will be calculated on the remaining seats, according to the provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act and Rules.
