  • Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English. Minimum 50% in PCB for General/EWS (40% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD). Minimum age 17 years by December 31 of the admission year.

  • INI CET is conducted twice annually (January and July sessions) by AIIMS New Delhi.
  • Eligibility: MBBS with one year of internship completed and valid NMC registration.

DM, M.Ch, and B.Sc Allied Health Admission

Super-speciality admissions (DM, M.Ch) go through INI SS, separate from NEET SS. B.Sc Allied Health Sciences and B.Optom are NEET UG-based, with JIPMER conducting its own counselling at jipmer.edu.in after NEET UG results.

JIPMER Placements and Career Outcomes

JIPMER does not hold conventional campus placement drives. Career outcomes are rooted in clinical medicine, research, and public health service pathways. JIPMER MBBS graduates are among the most sought-after candidates for MD/MS seats at AIIMS, PGI, and other top INI CET institutes. The JIPMER brand carries strong recognition in government hospital systems and medical academia.

JIPMER’s INI status and heavily subsidised fees reduce the need for institutional scholarships for most students. However, government scholarship schemes and academic support mechanisms are available for eligible students.

  • MBBS Stipend (Internship Year): Interns receive a monthly stipend from JIPMER during the mandatory 12-month rotating internship period.
  • GATE / INI CET Fellowship (MD/MS Residents): MD and MS residents receive monthly stipends as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare schedule, currently INR 55,000 to INR 80,000 per month depending on year.

JIPMER Campus and Infrastructure

JIPMER Puducherry’s main campus covers 195 acres in the heart of Puducherry. The hospital complex is the largest facility on campus, with 2,059 beds serving as a regional referral centre for Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. The campus also includes the Karaikal campus for MBBS and allied health programmes.

Key campus facilities include dedicated clinical skills labs, a medical library, postgraduate hostels, undergraduate hostels for boys and girls, and a cafeteria. The campus has dedicated departments for all major clinical and basic science disciplines. Research facilities include a biobank, advanced diagnostic imaging, and departmental research labs linked to DST, DBT, and ICMR-funded projects.

Hostel accommodation is provided to MBBS and PG students as part of the INI support structure. Hostel and mess fees are regulated and highly subsidised compared to private medical colleges. Students from outside Puducherry receive hostel priority.

JIPMER vs PGI Chandigarh vs CMC Vellore

JIPMER, PGI Chandigarh (PGIMER), and CMC Vellore are three of India’s most prestigious medical institutions outside AIIMS Delhi. All three are top-five NIRF Medical-ranked institutions and serve as national referral centres. Aspirants targeting the best government or missionary medical seats regularly compare these three.

JIPMER: 97 Answered Questions

Which is better AIIMS or JIPMER?

Kanika Singh

if we're comparing AIIMS Delhi vs JIPMER Pondicherry specifically, AIIMS Delhi wins — but not as decisively as people think.

AIIMS Delhi advantages: bigger hospital, more patient variety, better research funding, smaller batch (132 seats), stronger PG and super-specialty programs. JIPMER advantages: way more hands-on clinical exposure, internship is genuinely more intensive, calmer campus in Pondicherry, 150+ years old institution with incredible legacy — way older than AIIMS itself.

  • if you're from north India — AIIMS makes more sense since doctor-patient interaction is in Hindi
  • if you're from south India or want a focused clinical environment — JIPMER is genuinely excellent
  • JIPMER calls itself the AIIMS of the South and that's not really an exaggeration tbh

one thing most answers miss — this comparison only works for AIIMS Delhi and JIPMER Pondicherry. the new AIIMS campuses (Bhopal, Bibinagar, Raipur etc.) are much newer with limited infrastructure. JIPMER Pondicherry actually beats most of those hands down. preference order for most people: AIIMS Delhi > JIPMER Pondicherry > new AIIMS campuses.
