Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has opened the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) admission 2026-27 at jnuee.jnu.ac.in. Candidates can register through three admission categories: NET, JRF, and GATE. The last date to submit the online application is October 16, 2026.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

Candidates must hold a Master's degree with at least 55 percent marks. The minimum requirement is 50 percent for SC, ST, and PwBD candidates. Applicants must have a valid UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, JRF, or GATE scorecard.

The GATE route is available only for engineering disciplines. NET and JRF candidates can apply to humanities, social sciences, and sciences schools. All applicants must register separately for the PhD admission cycle.

How Is the Final Merit Prepared?

JNU uses a composite score for preparing the final merit list. The NET, JRF, or GATE score carries 70 percent weightage, while the viva-voce carries 30 percent weightage.

Shortlisted candidates will receive viva-voce call letters from their chosen school. The school-wise viva schedule will be released on the admission portal. Final selection will depend on the combined composite score.
