Karnataka Govt to Reopen Post-Matric Hostels, Colleges from Nov 17, Details Here

The Karnataka government has allowed colleges and post-matric hostels to reopen in the state from November 17, 2020. However, the government has made it mandatory for students, teachers and staff to produce COVID-19 negative reports before entering colleges.

The order issued by the state reads, "As per SoP issued from Government of Karnataka, all teachers, students and non-teaching staff members of colleges and hostels shall produce a COVID-19 RT-PCR negative test report, which is done within 72 hours before the day of joining.”

Meanwhile, Pankaj Kumar Pandey, the Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare in the state, has passed guidelines which mandates carrying out COVID tests and instructed health staff to collect samples and present test results of students, teachers and staff on an urgent basis before colleges reopen.

As of now, labs are taking up a pooled process to share reports via SMS and upload related documents on ICMR portal: covidwar. karnataka.goV.in/servicel to retrieve the results.

In this while, on Friday, the Minister of Social Welfare tweeted, “As was decided in the meeting chaired by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on October 23, the classes will begin for graduate and postgraduate students from November 17. In this backdrop post-matric hostels managed by the Social Welfare Department across the state will function from November 17.”

Earlier on October 23, the state government of Karnataka decided to reopen engineering, diploma and degree colleges remain shut for 8 months since the lockdown was announced.

The government has also issued SOPs for Medical, Ayush and Nursing colleges from December 1. However, students have an option to choose from offline or online mode. The SOPs have mandated that students who will attend physical classes, need to produce a negative COVID19 report.
