Mumbai University Affiliated Colleges Not to Hike Fees for the Upcoming Academic Year: Reports

The University of Mumbai on Monday issued a notice to all its affiliated colleges asking the administration to not hike fees for the academic session of 2020-21.

Following the notice, colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai, will not hike their fees for the upcoming academic year.

Furthermore, existing and aspiring students will be allowed to pay their tuition fees for the upcoming academic year in installments if the pandemic has affected their family’s income.

Earlier, the University Grants Commission (UGC) asked universities and colleges to not compel students for paying fees immediately in light of the current situation.

Due to the widespread COVID-19 virus, a nationwide lockdown was put in place in the month of March to control the spread.

Amid the lockdown, the income source of all industries, commercial work as well as jobs in the private sector was affected financially. The situation also affected the financial situation of the general public severely.

Taking this into account and in line with the letter from the UGC, the university has decided not to increase the fees of the new academic session at any of its affiliated colleges. With the implementation of the new decision, students will be able to pay their fees in installments.
