In the list of universities with the most accepted students for Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2020, NIT-K, Surathkal has bagged the fourth position.
What is GSoC?
Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is an international program organized by Google Open Source Team. In this program, Google awards stipend to students who have successfully completed a free and open-source software coding project during the summer.

To be eligible for this award, students must be age 18 or above. About 23 students got selected for GSoC 2020 from NIT-K, Surathkal.
Count of students participated in GSoC 2020
A total of 1198 students from 550 Universities around the globe participated in the summer program and out of these 1198 students, 114 students have participated for the first time in the event.
GSoC published the list of participating institutes, which include 12 colleges globally. Out of these 12 colleges, 9 are from India.
Top 3 Colleges from India
Nine Indian Institutes making the list of GSoC is a commendable growth for Indian institutes. This year, IIT Roorkee tops the list with 48 students, followed by IIT Kanpur and IIT Hyderabad.
The first batch resulted in the seven selections in GSoC and over the past two years, the number has only increased, which highlights the progress of NIT-K Surathkal in the field of Open Source Contributors. Alongside this, the institute also achieved 'Band-A' under the category of government-funded institutions in ARIIA 2020.
