The University Grants Commission (UGC) prohibits a one-year MBA program, as per its guidelines, which officially classifies the MBA program as a two-year course.
New Delhi: As per the latest reports, it was revealed under the Right To Information (RTI) query that the University Grants Commission (UGC) has prohibited the one-year MBA program. The UGC guidelines officially designate an MBA as a two-year course.
In response to an RTI query about the validity of 1-year MBA programs in line with UGC-approved nomenclatures, the specification of degree levels, minimum program duration, and entry-level qualifications are outlined in the 'Specification of Degrees, 2014,' published in the Gazette of India in July 2014
Further, the Universities must obtain approval from the competent authority to offer MBA Admissions, following the official two-year postgraduate degree duration.
According to the UGC regulations of 1985, stipulating minimum standards for non-formal or distance education, a student is only eligible for the award of the first degree after completing a three-year course, known as the BA or BSc and even BCom (General Honours/Special) degree, as applicable.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), responsible for approving universities offering MBA programs, issued a warning about fraudulent 10-day MBA courses. This caution followed the advertisement of such programs by Bada Business Private Limited, promoted by motivational speaker Vivek Bindra.
