Is placement good in Anna University Trichy?

CN
Chinraj Natarajan Posted On : December 16th, 2022
M.tech in Environmental Engineering, Anna University, Tamil Nadu, India (Graduated 2019)

Because of its location, Anna University Trichy lacks a lot in the placement area. They are nothing compared to the placements in Chennai. Some students in core engineering departments do get placed. But the placement scenario for technology departments like Biotechnology, Petro, and Pharma is really unsatisfactory. In fact, these departments lack placement opportunities even in Chennai.

The placement scenarios are very lacking at Anna university Trichy but they are trying their best to improve in this aspect. Also, I have heard from many of its alumni that the quality of lectures at this college is much better than many private institutions.

Did you feel bad after joining IIT Bhubaneswar?

PS
Priyadarshini Sen Posted On : June 16th, 2023
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (2019)

Yes, an engineering aspirant might be taken aback the first time they come to IIT Bhubaneswar as it's a kind of a disappointment to the IIT tag and nothing as the students imagined. However, like every coin has 2 sides, IIT Bhubaneswar has its pros and cons that will help you understand the feelings of a student there.

Pros

  • IIT Bhubaneswar being a new institute allows the students to innovate new things and bring fresh changes to the institute. This helped their managerial skills.
  • The small batch size means every student will be involved in the college activities some or the other way thus maximizing exposure.
  • The seniors guide their juniors as they know they need constant assistance this strengthens the bond between juniors and seniors
  • The institute helped the students' overall personality development because of numerous opportunities and exposure.

Cons

  • My friend had to travel 2 hours daily to reach the main campus and was not able to stay late because the last bus left around 9.
  • There wasn't any place for girls to stay in between classes while boys can go to the hostel.
  • The institutes have very poor faculty strength and thus limited electives are offered.
  • The quality and taste of food served is pathetic.

My friend considers IIT Bhubaneswar a decent choice as the opportunities and exposure here will overshadow the minute flaws of the institute.

Should I join MDI Gurgaon or go to a newer IIM?

PT
Pragya Tripathi Posted On : March 7th, 2023
MBA Operations Management & Marketing, Management Development Institute, Gurgaon (2018)

The final decision will be yours. The parameters of comparison are:

  • Age of B School: MDI Gurgaon is one of the oldest B Schools in India established in 1973. The advantage of age ensures that MDI has a bigger advantage in alumni strength and corporate relations. In comparison, the new IIMs are considerably young.
  • Infrastructure: MDI is gifted with good infrastructure, located in Gurgaon. Some of the hostels are truly world-class and MDI is equipped with a fantastic library that houses all kinds of books. Apart from that, one will find all kinds of books, journals, and research papers related to academics. I am not a student of new IIMs and hence won't comment on the infrastructure.
  • Location: Gurgaon being the corporate hub gives MDI the advantage of a better interface with companies. The location plays a significant role in the placement season too.
  • Quality of students: MDI scores marginally over the new IIMs in the quality of students. Students have ample opportunity to nurture their talent by participating in live case studies and live projects. Also, the environment is pretty competitive and gives food for intellectual thoughts.
  • Faculty: Most of the faculty in MDI are research scholars, and more importantly, they treat the students like adults. New IIMs must also have a strong faculty base as some of them are mentored by the big 3 A, B, and C. The faculty at MDI keeps on referring to some of the brilliant HBR Case Studies. Creativity and innovation are encouraged here at MDI.
  • Placements: MDI easily ranks ahead of new IIMs in placements. The morning-to-night grilling placement process at MDI is one of those moments you will crave forever. This institute boasts of a 100% placement for many years now.
  • Quality of life: The environment at MDI changed many students for the better. Being in Gurgaon, students were able to witness the historic and artistic splendor of Delhi which mired them in thoughts and curiosity. Students developed a sense of healthy competition and also the art of acknowledging others. They followed their passion for world history by reading and debating about it. Not commenting anything about the quality of life at new IIMs since I was not a student there.

So, in a comprehensive comparison, MDI takes the lead. The brand IIM isn't enough, the 4th letter matters a lot and more than the first 3 letters. I suggest you go for MDI.

How does NIT Trichy have 95% placement? Even IITs don't have that much.

KS
Kalyani Shrivastava Posted On : July 20th, 2023
NIT Trichy

There are many strong reasons why NIT Trichy has able to achieve 95% placements when even some IITs haven't.

  • Firstly, the age-old legacy of the institute and its high brand value attract the best peers as well as recruiters.
  • Secondly, the alumni pool is huge and many of the alumni are working in top positions in foreign companies. So, during placements, these alumni give preference to students of their alma mater and thus the placements are better.
  • NIT Trichy has well-equipped R & D labs with modern instruments raising the standard of education and research.
  • NIT Trichy enjoys a better location as it is in close proximity to the IT hubs Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Chennai.
  • Lastly, the T & P cell of NIT Trichy works really hard to improve the placement scenario.

However, I would like to negate your point that NIT Trichy has better placements than IIts. it does have better placements but only when compared to the new IITs. It's still behind the old IITs in terms of placements.

How does NIT Trichy have 95% placement? Even IITs don't have that much?

SM
Sreeja Menon Posted On : April 1st, 2021
studied M. Tech Mechanical Engineering, NIT Jalandar (2020)

The reason why NITs unlike other institutions are having more placements in comparison to IIT’s is due to their quality of students has increased in the market.

  • NIT has rich Research and development equipment and these things allow the recruiters to hire more candidates. But it cannot be said that IIT students have fewer placements than NIT.
  • Another reason for good placements at NIT Trichy is because of its location as it is nearer to Bangalore and Chennai and companies find it convenient to visit here.
  • It also depends upon the placement service of NIT. NIT Trichy also screens its candidates before sending them for campus placements.
  • Those sitting for their placements have to undergo placement exams in their third year. These exams are conducted by the final year students of your respective branch. Those who get 60% or above 60% in their placement exams are allowed to appear in the campus placements.

One of my friends suggested that computer science students get much better placements in comparison to other branches. The average package is INR 6lacs per annum and the highest package to date is 90 lacs per annum.
