Remarks

Guards and Watchmen are a menace in the campus, Female Students are expected to maintain clothes decorum which is not a progressive sign and the college is very much inclined towards welfare of Gujarati Community but it definitely gives opportunity to all

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Curriculum Course until my Graduation was handled by Mumbai University but now as Somaiya has been recognised as a University, it will make amendments in its curriculum. But till my time, it was pretty well and was well taught. Exams were held in a dual semester pattern in every year. One in October-November and other in April-May.

Placement Experience

2

A Compulsory internship has been made in every second year for Mass Media Students. This allows us to explore the market in middle of our studies and helps us to learn new things. College has a Placement cell, but its pretty vague and does not bring good companies specially for Mass Media Students. But finding an internship or a job wasn't a difficult task in between and after the college. But yes, Placement Cell is a huge upset in the college

College Events

5

The Month of November - December is full of Fests and College Events. Every Department has its own Cultural Event to promote and bring in harmony among students of different courses. 1. Rotaract Club of S.K. Somaiya College is one of the most active Club and its organises events throughout the year. 2. Zenith - BMS Fest 3. Mediatheque - BMM Fest 4. Cultural Forum's Fest And many other fests are the events celebrated in the college

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure is different for different courses, for BMM, it was around 20k through the three years, with an increase of 1500/- every year. There is an refund of all security deposits at the end of the course and after graduation. Fees is made feasible for weaker section of the society.

Fees and Financial Aid

College has a lot of Scholarship programs and schemes for weaker sections of the society. No loan as such is provided. SC / ST and OBC already enjoy a lower fees structure than other students. Gujarati Minorities enjoy pre admission before the admission is opened for all.

Campus Life

5

College has a Olympic Size Football Ground and Tennis Court. Cricket Ground, Badminton Arena and a Basket Court, all in the college premises and is available to everyone with a valid ID card. College has a Sports Committee, which is Called the Somaiya Sports Association and it organises all major games and sports in the college, all throughout the year. Extra Curricular Activities include, Maker Mela, Spoken Fest, Ted Talks etc.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

I did not opt for Hostel. But knowing from outside, it has a very huge and a very good hostel infrastructure. Separate Hostel for both girls and boys. With the girls one constructed recently with good amenities.

Alumni/Alumna

Every year in January, Somaiya organises a Somaiya Reunion for all past students and alumnus. More than that, Somaiya college provides us with an Email Id with Somaiya Edu which can be used by the student even after graduation to be in touch with the Events happening in the college. Its very helpful

Admission

The College Admission process is pretty simple. There is a Special Admission Process team in the whole college that helps you in getting the admission process done. Right from form collection to submission and fees payment etc.

Faculty

4

The college has one of the most experienced faculty members and has also a mix of young Energetic Teacher, who make teaching and learning fun. Visiting Faculty are a huge part of many courses, that adds up to the quality of teaching. Every semester there are specialised teachers for every new subject introduced. No teacher teaches more than two subjects hence making it good for the teacher as well as students to learn

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course. It helped me in my personality building and also I learned new things like- Video and photo editing, handling cameras, communication skills, Acting, Advertisement writing and shooting, and many more. Class strength is good as they allow 25-30 students for one course. Faculties were too supportive and masters of their own fields. They take 2 internals and 1 final exam at the end of the semester which is of 6 months.
