CMI, B.Sc {Hons.}, Mathematics And Computer Science

Reviewed on Feb 27, 2020

Remarks

One of the good remarks is about the management of the Institute. Seriously, the management is very helpful to every student.

Course Curriculum Overview

Research is the most interesting thing which made me choose this college over another Institute i.e., IIIT Allahabad. The total focus is given on Research. Since this is one of the prominent institutions for Research, trust VHF finally the main focus is Research in Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science and Physics (According to the course one chooses).

Class Size: 35Course Fees: INR 200000 per year

Placement Experience

Placement is much better than any other college. Even being a research college, it has much better placements even for Corporate Jobs for those who want to go for such jobs. CMI also provides Internships. To apply for internships, one has to write a letter and request CMI for that. Complete details can be found on its own website.

College Events

4.5

The main annual event is 'Tessellate'. It is held by the students and the research scholars at CMI. One of the main sub-event of this fest is STEMS. STEMS basically is an online exam which is conducted during the event and the top 50 scores in that exams are invited for 3 days fully sponsored camp at CMI and are exposed to Mathematical Research.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is very feasible. The annual fee for Bachelor courses is 2,00,000 per annum (excluding hostel and mess charges). However, the students who qualify for admission to CMI but are unable to pay the fee are given a scholarship on their financial background.

Fees and Financial Aid

I applied for a scholarship based on my financial background. As the students who get admission into CMI but are unable to pay the fee, are given a scholarship analyzing their financial background. The best Scholarship which college offers is Shriram Scholarship which is given to some top scorers in the Entrance exam. This Scholarship includes the full waiver of tuition fee and a monthly stipend of Rs.5000.

Campus Life

There are extracurricular activities in the Institute but very very less than the other institutes like NITs/IITs, etc. The main event/fest that is held annually is 'TESSELATE'. If we talk about gender, then I would say that if there is a place where actual/ real gender equality can be found then it cannot be anything other than CMI.

Alumni/Alumna

Everyone in the CMI lives like a family. There is no difference between seniors and juniors. They all are very helpful. Some alumni also remain in contact with the students and they are also very friendly.

Admission

I got admission through the entrance exam held by CMI every year. The admission process is very simple. One has to appear for its entrance exam and based on the score in the exam, some students are selected for admission. Sometimes an interview may happen after the entrance exam and before the admission is done.

Faculty

All the faculties are extremely talented in their own field. All the faculties are either Mathematicians or Computer Scientists or Data Scientists or Physicists. If we talk about studies in Mathematics, then all the respective faculties are Mathematicians. However, there are some Statisticians also.

Nit Trichy B.Sc. B.ed. student review

girls to boys ratio is 1:1 is we consider all three branches with some courses with more male while other having for female.more or less the ratio is near 1:1
the most important thing for you is there is close to zero discrimination for you , whether you want to join any club or perform anything you are equivalent to students with others bachelor degree
octagon and library are the two things which are good as library is considered the biggest library among all nit's while octagon having 800 computers for students.NSO ground is also well maintained with the beautiful mig fighter jet to take cool phot

Dislikes

for first years hostel are well maintained if compared with others but don't expect much from hostel atlast this is a government college.in first year 3 to 4 person sharing room are there which was build to carry 2 person.
Quant and entrepreneur thing is not there as you might expect by seeing the nirf 9 ranking but it is not zero .they are growing clubs like profNITT and Sigma are young and they could do better
curfew timing for girls are 9 or 9:30 pm i guess be it any year. for boys ,only freshers have curfew with timing 9:30 pm.other than that any student can't step outside the college after 10 pm without the sign out form.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course as maths is the mother of all science and quite related to other fields so it opens a lot of door for me like mba ,mtech ,phd or any other things. this course is specifically designed for becoming teachers so keep that in mind before taking this course as they are not flexible in changing curriculum or adding something for the sake of students as of now. also you will be having more working days compared to other courses with 80 percent mandatory attendance.after first sem you will get 1 week holiday and after 2nd sem you will get 50.days holiday and after first year you can expect 20 days holiday for winters and 50 days holiday for summers. you will get a lot of time to study for exams. before ct 1 you can expect 2 months and then atleast a month for ct 2 and endsems. cons are that you don't have the right to choose minor or electives like btech students.you have to compulsory study all three science .i.e. maths , physics, chemistry.

HIMT COLLEGE REVIEW

The faculties are very well experienced and there are captains who stay in the campus itself, so if there’s something we need they will be available all the time
The facilitieslike labs, ship in campus, DB tank facilities etc are top notch
The classrooms are fully air conditioned. There’s smart board. Overall everything is really good and also neat and clean

Dislikes

Galley food can improve a little and canteen is comparatively small for such a big campus
They are not conducting intra- college events and inter-college events is very less

Placement Experience:

Placements are really good in HIMT. I got placed in 1st year itself in MOLMI. All faculties try their best to prepare us for the placements and it shows in the placement interview also. Usually companies come for placements from 2nd year but there are some companies who want to take girl cadets 1st year itself. MOLMI, MOLTA etc came to our college for placements. After completion of the course, company will call for induction and accordingly they will call for joining the ship. For finishing the cadet ship , we have finish 12 months of sea time. After that a lot courses has to be done for appearing in 2 nd mates exam.

cmi is amazing!

I studied at IIIT-H last year before dropping out and joining here. I joined IIIT-H because it is also a research focused institute and I hoped to do more maths. The very intense computer science workload shooed me away. I also applied to BITS goa and got in for the physics programme. I chose Chennai Mathematical Institute over that because it has a far better curicullum. Admission process of CMI: If you are selected for any olympiad camps, you are directly admitted to CMI. The college conducts a test aroun mid-may. The test has two parts: objective and subjective. part A is mostly a screening test and whoever passes the cutoff for part A has their part B paper checked. You're admitted purely based on your performance on the test. If you did get an admission letter, you are also required to pass 12th grade or its equivalent. The cutoffs for the 2024 entry test are : 58/120(General Category and Males) 47/120(other categories) : With Scholarship Wthout Scholarship : 47/120, 39/120...Read More
