Remarks

Well, for someone who really did not do well in other entrance examinations, PES was the best option I had, since I had heard from friends of family and my seniors that it was a college which maintains a high standard. The first thing which I loved about the college was the diversity and the number of people, they were from all walks of life and each one held different experiences and different stories. Since we share the same campus with BBA and BArch, one can glimpse at life from a different perspective. The campus is quite spacious and the sports and extra-curricular facilities provided are maintained regularly, which is rare considering that the college is in the middle of a packed city. As for the bad aspects, this is a highly disciplinarian institution which is very particular on deadline submissions and attendance, which has a requirement of 85%! I referred to the NIRF website in order to gauge the ranking of the institution.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose the EC course, since with the advent of autonomous cars and IoT , I felt EC would be a very profitable skill to learn for the future. Also, I always had a keen interest in technology from a young age, which led me to take ECE. The ratio is about 1:25 for the EC Department. The professors and quite knowledgeable and very friendly. They do their best to help and teach at a pace which everyone can keep on. They explain every problem thoroughly and double check if all the students have understood, and are very open to doubts. Now, EC being a difficult course, consequently has tough exams. It is important to know all concepts thoroughly and to be strong in your math. That said, if you do practice daily and refer to the books provided by the teachers, it will not be that difficult.

Placement Experience

4.5

Students are eligible for placements from the seventh semester. There are many big names which come to PES, such as Microsoft, Intel, NVidia etc. There were about 2000 offers last year. The exact salary is not disclosed, but the highest package is upwards of 70 L. The average package in PES is about 6.5L. About 60-70% of students get placed in PES on average. I plan to work for a few years, save up money and earn a Master's Degree in a foreign country.

Fees and Financial Aid

Since I got through PESSAT, which is a private exam, the fees is quite high, being upwards of 3.5L per annum. This cannot be afforded to most of the people, there is another way as well. The college has reserved some seats for students who write the KCET exam. This exam has significantly higher competition than PESSAT, but once you clear the cutoff, the fees is 60,000 a year for the general category. But since we are in Covid times, we cannot make full use of the campus and I really feel the fees must be reduced, since it does not seem justified. There are a number of scholarships once you enter college, which can reduce up to 50% of your fees, but that depends on your performance.

Campus Life

4.5

There is one annual fest and one tech fest which is held in the Jan-Feb period of every year. These fests are massive and a many big names arrive to perform. The students are given complete control to host the fest and have to manage everything from flyers to celebrity invitations. The library is huge with more than 1.2L books, and this helps all the students quite a bit. The library can be accessed during college hours and there is a good WIFI connection there too, although some sites are blocked. Classrooms are well equipped with ACs, projectors, a TV and plenty of space. There are facilities for all the major sports, but what is exceptional is the cricket field, which has a well maintained turf and is approved by the KSCA. There is an AstroTurf football field, basketball and badminton courts. There are plenty of clubs, and all of them are run by students. We have clubs for all areas right from food lovers, to sports, to satellites, to anime. Please do join them.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Curriculum is a mix of both Computer Science and AIML which is increasingly relevant in today's world. Second year: Subjects like Mathematics for AIML, Data Structures, Stats for Data Science, Computer Networks, Third year: DBMS, ANN, ML operations Some other elevtives are also available and courses like Universal Human Values, POME, EIPR etc. Honestly, POME, EIPR, UHV should have less course credits and probably MCQ type exams (like IC and Yoga in first year). Curriculum is good and updating for applications helped along with projects. Exams are generally once in a month, 1.5 - 2 units for each subject each exam. Lab exams at the very end before CIE marks finalization. Then 2 weeks gap for Lab SEE, then 1 week gap and actual SEE's.

KSIT has an average placement rate of 70%-85% depending on the branch . CSE,ISE and ECE branches have higher placements while mechanical and civil have fewer opportunities in IT sector . Average package is about 4-6LPA . KSIT attracts many IT based recruitiers with some core companies for non -IT branches . It also provides pre-placement training, coding boot cams, aptitude tests and soft skills development . Alumni network is moderate, but students need off-campus efforts for high paying jobs
