Basic facts on University of Kerala

My program was a bachelor of commerce and I did it in one of the best colleges affiliated with Kerala University. There are many options to choose from for specialization such as cooperation, finance, and computer applications. The basic criteria for getting into a Bcom program is 12th-grade qualification but if you want to get into the best colleges you'll need at least 80% if you are in a general category. The seat allotment is based on category and 12th-grade marks. The students who were part of clubs and societies like NSS and NCC in the 12th grade are given extra points during allotment. The admission process starts with the online application and during this stage, applicants have to select the colleges they want to get into. There will be four allotment stages in total including a trial allotment.If you are allotted into a college, you will get the date and time for counseling section and it isn't smooth as there are a lot of procedures to be done to complete the admission process.

Bachelor of commerce is one of the most demanded courses in India among students who complete 12th grade.At the University of Kerala, there are many specializations for BCom students to choose from and students are free to choose their specializations. Faculty: student ratio would be 1:8. Most of the faculty members are Ph.D. holders and scholars. The teaching methods are purely traditional and theory-based. Seminars and workshops are conducted weekly and are hosted by different departments and students are free to go to any programs conducted by any department. Attendance is the most important part and students need to maintain a minimum attendance percentage to be allowed to write the semester examinations. Semester exams are not conducted timely and sometimes students don't even get proper time to prepare for the semester exams. The difficulty level of exams is moderate and anyone can pass if they give enough time and effort to the programme.

Students belonging to backward communities and economically weaker sections do not have to pay any fee and for general students and those who have annual income above 6 lakhs, they have to pay a small amount of fee each semester and it is less than 2k. The other cost includes the cost of buying books, revaluation and scrutiny fees, special funds for college PTA and management which will be about an average of 6000 for the full course period, and fees for university services like the provision of certificates and mark lists. There are many scholarships for students from the central government as well as state government. Those will be given based on different criteria like marks,category and income of the family. The scholarship amounts vary from Rs200-Rs15000 per year.

The campus life is so much fun and exciting. Students will get a lot of time to get together and there are celebrations and fairs taking place every month. There are many fests like food fest, arts fest, union fest, etc and there will be competitions and games. The library facility is one of the best advantages and students are free to go and take any books or journals they need. Classrooms are pretty big to afford at least fifty students and they are mostly traditional. Students interested in sports are free to join the sports department and there are many state-level players in the teams. There are clubs and teams like NSS and NCC and the demand for joining these groups is very high, so there are selection procedures for choosing its members. For NCC the selection procedure is tough when compared with NSS and other clubs. There are student unions in every college under the Kerala University and they provide many services and helps students when they are in need.
