Entrance Preview

TMISAT - It is an all India examination conducted by Tolani Maritime Institute. There are two courses on offer Marine Engineering and Nautical Technology. I opted for Marine Engineering as I am more inclined towards the mechanical/technical aspect of ship operation.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course is very comprehensive as compared to other Marine Institutes in the country. The course deals(touches upon) in almost all the major engineering disciplines like electrical, electronic, mechanical etc. The students have to work harder compared to other conventional engineering colleges. There work load is also more as they have upto 7 subjects in one semester along with practical and hands on training.

Internships Opportunities

My college has a mock-up of a ship in the campus which is used for internship and training of cadets of all years. Some final year students do under take their internship on the installed mock up. Stipend of the placed cadets varies over a broad scale, it depends on a number of factors like the type of ship, the route of ship etc.

Placement Experience

5

The institute has an almost 100% placement record till date. Various shipping companies from all around the world come to the institute for placement. Some companies are as follows - Maersk Line, TK tankers, NYK Line, K-Line etc. Till the time the cadet maintains a reasonable gpa without any backlogs, getting placed in a company is not at all difficult.

College Events

4.5

My college has a very busy academic calendar therefore not many events take place here as compared to other college but again this isn't your regular college. On the technical front the college organises an event know as Transtech - it's a yearly event which is open to all and the theme is generally related to the Marine field.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure of the college is a bit on the higher side but they also provide the cadets with quality facilities. The fee structure is on a semester basis. The fees per Sem is a touch over 2 lakh rupees. The over all fees for Marine Engineering course touches around 15 lakh rupees period.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni and senior cadets do remain in touch with the juniors. Alumni of the college keep visiting the campus and interact with the cadets. They help the cadets in which ever way they can from academics to doubts regarding the industry.

Exam Structure

Exam structure consists of Mid Sem exams and an end sem exam along with continuous internal assessment. Labs and practical training takes place through out the semester with separate exams and continuous assessment for them. The schedule is a bit hectic but with time one gets used to it.

Admission

You need to complete your schooling with PCME as your subjects and need to obtain atleast 75% in PCM and atleast 50% in English to be able to appear for TMISAT. One needs to appear for IMU all India exam after that the candidate needs to get atleast 50% marks in the TMISAT exam. After clearing the exam one need to appear for a personal interview and a medical examination.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty teaching and training the students(cadets) in the college are the best in the business. All the faculty members are very knowledgeable and experienced professionals in there respected departments. They are more like mentors to the cadets.

Remarks:

Focusing on student's attendence rather than focusing on students concepts. College is not focusing in development of students only paperwork is done. No conceptul teaching nor practical. By doing this stuff we can get a btech degree but not the knowledge a btech student should have.
