Remarks

The whole admission process was online. Only students who have 60% marks were eligible for the admission in the stream of chemistry honours but the percentage varies with the other streams .There were caste based quota system. I secured a sit for me in B.Sc. honours stream as my marks were above the requisite. I made online payment which was so secured and there was no third party involvement. I went to college with all my original document. The staffs varrified my documents and I became a member of the college.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I have a great interest in doing chemical experiment. So it's obvious yo chose this subject. Chemistry department has lot of specialized faculty and they all have impressive qualifications.Above all they were very helpful and supportive. We got lot of helps from them. Teacher and student ratio was approximately 1:45.I have my three year course and there were 6 papers to qualify. Two papers in one year span. Its quite tough to pass every papers because question papers were really standard and there was no way to cheat in the exam hall. We had to go other colleges to give yerly exams.

Fees and Financial Aid

College fee was adjustable for a student belonging to a middle class family.one had to give 2000 to 3500 as yearly fee including exam fee, feast fee, lab fee etc. One had the chance to get scholarship. They provide 5000 to 10000 rupees to the students who have a caste certificate based on their courses. One had the chance to avail the state government sponsored scholarship. I also got these financial assistances which were very beneficial to a poor student.

Campus Life

One can communicate and get informations from the college website i.e. www Ranaghat college.com one can find it also from social media pages by searching Ranaghat college Union, Students of Ranaghat College and many more. I was benifited by my college library a lot. we could borrow famous literature books as well as science fiction books. Our classroom were clear and clean. Have enough space. There were many technologically advanced machines. Every year a sports tournament was o to organised by the college authority and one has the chance to get attractive prizes by participating in it.The tournament was carried out in the college's own playground which was huge.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The syllabus and curriculum of Calcutta University is aligned with other entrance examination (eg.IIT JAM, JEST, TIFR, GATE etc.) Specially for the Physics BSc course. And the syllabus is updated Artificial intelligence bacis, Python Advance level is in syllabus, it's completed in college. Point to be Noted - The time given to prepare for the exam is sometimes ample but sometimes it is very less. So we have to prepare syllabus in time which is little bit frustrating.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.
