Remarks

NIT Durgapur is one of the 31 NIT's and a premier Engineering college of the country, ranked 29 in NIRF 2021. It has a strong alumni network spread across the globe. Admission at the undergrad level is through JEE Mains exam which is conducted by NTA every year. Candidates are required to get top ranks to get admission.

Course Curriculum Overview

Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest and largest department of the institute with good qualified faculties who are alumni of NIT's and several premier institutes in India with PhD's from IIT's, IISc and abroad.

Internships Opportunities

NIT Durgapur has a collaboration with CERN Switzerland. Every year 4-5 students are selected for projects on the basis of merit to spend their summers in Europe.

Placement Experience

The placement scenario is good with top companies such as microsoft and amazon hiring every year. Also the core placements are good enough, PSU's offering jobs. More than 85-90% students get placed and some go for higher studies. The entrepreneurship culture is also growing at a fast rate with support of incubation centers from the institute.

College Events

Campus life is great. There are several clubs, societies and groups starting from science & tech to entrepreneurship, cultural, technical etc. Aarohan is the annual techno-management fest which is generally held in the month of Feb - March. Apart from this several clubs and societies host various events throughout the year. Sports facility is also good ranging from cricket, football, basketball etc. There is a gym and various other indoor games are also available.

Fees and Financial Aid

The tuition fee is 62.5k per semester. Apart from this hostel and other fees add up to around 80k per sem. There are several scholarships & financial aid available. The placement scenario is good enough with many students getting placed in top reputed companies.

Campus Life

The campus is spread across an area of 187 acres with high speed LAN. There are 2 sports grounds situated inside the campus in addition to a student activity center, gym. The library has a large collection of books which serves the needs of students and faculties. The labs are equipped with good instruments and facilities.

Admission

The admission is based on JEE Main ranks. The candidates are tested upon the entire syllabus of class 11 & 12 physics, chemistry & maths. A rank within 40k among 10 lakh candidates generally secures admission

Faculty is serious and everything happens on time with proper functioning.
I liked the food of my hostel Raman abas that's unique because hostel generally provide average food.
I liked my batchmates, seniors and my hostel mates. They're just love.

Dislikes

The hostel and faculty infrastructure is very old need replacement asap.
Rural location of colleges so urban access of blinkit,zomato etc is unavailable.
Placement numbers here is too short university need to work on that.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Honestly, I was preparing for neet but after neet i was very clear that i want to do this(Agriculture). Practical cum theory approach here will make you a awared man in this field. Placements and Governments seats after UG is very competitive although. In upcoming future everyone will going to focus on larger production in limited land/cultivation area so Agriculture will be needed today and tomorrow.

My Experience at Jaipuria to summed it up.

Likes

Quality education and an academically enriching environment. Most importantly, well- versed professors.
Extra- curriculum activities, along with an active sports cell and NCC, and usually various opportunities to participate in Inter-College Competitions.
Well maintained gym with separate timings for girls and boys. The canteen offers a wide variety of foods at an affordable price.

Dislikes

For my department, there was no educational excursion.
Negligence internship opportunities are available for my course.
Only some placement opportunities are available, and companies like TCS and Wipro came up for campus placement.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My passion and a bit of curiosity in International Relations led me to choose this course. The curriculum, in fact, prepared me well for further academic pursuits. For improvement, educational excursions and internship opportunities should be made available. The exam is held twice a year on semester basis, with papers set at a moderate to difficult level.

Good enough

Likes

The faculty members are knowledgeable and supportive. Most teachers explain concepts clearly and are approachable after class for doubts and guidance, which helps a lot during exams.
The college has a disciplined academic environment with regular classes and practical sessions. Laboratories are functional and help students understand concepts through hands-on learning.
The campus environment is calm and student-friendly. Various seminars, cultural programs, and academic activities help in overall personality development.

Dislikes

Industry exposure and internship guidance are minimal, which could be improved to make students more job-ready after graduation.
Infrastructure can be improved, especially classrooms and laboratory equipment. Some facilities feel outdated and require modernization.
Placement opportunities for BSc students are limited. The college focuses more on academics, so students need to prepare for higher studies or competitive exams on their own.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

A balanced view of campus life and learning

Likes

The English department has experienced and supportive teachers. Most professors explain concepts clearly and encourage discussions, close reading and critical thinking.
The course is very affordable, especially compared to private colleges. With scholarships, it becomes accessible for students from middle and lower income backgrounds.
The college has a friendly and diverse student crowd. The girls to boys ratio is balanced with slightly more female students, which creates a comfortable learning atmosphere.

Dislikes

The infrastructure needs improvement. Classrooms and common areas could be better maintained and modern facilities are limited.
There are very few placement opportunities for arts students.
Although some academic events take place, extracurricular activities and active student societies could be improved for better campus life.

Placement Experience:

There are limited on campus placement opportunities here, especially for Arts and Eng Hons students. Most students focus on higher studies, competitive exams or off campus opportunities after graduation. The college provides basic guidance through teachers but formal placement drives are rare.

Likes

The infrastructure of the college is good.I would consider the college as very clean.
The campus life is pretty good but there are strict instructions to freshers to not roam in the campus.

Dislikes

I disliked the condition of the bathroom and the corridor on the first day.
My hostel room was very filthy.The workers charges ₹100 for cleaning it

Placement Experience:

From 4th year students become eligible for placements.Google, Microsoft,Gold Man Sacks, Apple were some of the companies that visited NIT Durgapur For placement regard.The highest package was 80lpa and the average package was 13 lpa.Total of 83% students got placed.The placement is quite good.

use of projector is very helpful for us .
faculties behaviour is good ,they are quite helpful toward us.

small area campus is that what I do not like
canteen facilities are not good enough .
small space library are not enough for all students

after 6th sem those students who scored above 7 CGPA are eligible for campus placements. name of companies- TCS,Campgemini,Accenture,Delloite etc. average package -320000 70 percent most of students got placed. I want to job at IT sector after getting the degree.

The thing I most like about my university that is our lecturers they provide good knowledge and they are caring towards students. They help pass to solve the previous 10 years paper question paper so that we didn't nervous in the examination hall
The environment of our college. There is a very pleasant environment because of many many trees flowers and everyone knows about Ravindra Bharathi is also really care for nature.

Dislikes

The thing I most dislike the fees structure whenever the University application form applied there is a huge fee they charge
Another thing when I candidate is not eligible for ma they didn't show on the application page that take money and they didn't refund it
They didn't provide the best library. Always there is not a good conduct of book

Course Curriculum Overview:

I always grateful for the institution because of the lecturer because they provide us good conduct of nose that's why we improve our studies and they taught us in different teaching methods and day all complete the course curriculum because of them we can know all of the things that can come in the examination and the prepare ask for real world application for father academic persues they can give us everything whatever we want for our life and we have to exam yearly one final exam

The college campus is very big and beautiful.
The cultural fests and annual fest is also great.
The ganga ghat is really close from the college.

Dislikes

The faculty is bullshit .some profs are ok,but some are horrible.
The college hostels accommodation is really bad
The ratio of girls to boys is very poor.

Placement Experience:

The campus placement is okay and companies like google, Microsoft, Capgemini ,Tata,Mahindra also comes during placement.The off campus placement record is also fantastic.The were scenarios in the past years where few students got packages like 50-70 lpa.

The institution is a historical institution because it is founded by Rabindranath Tagore.

Dislikes

Non-Teaching faculties are very bad . they don't work good.

1st year+ Registration Fees-6780 2nd , 3rd , 4th Year Fees- 3000/year Tution fees and all others fees are included in above fees. There is no scholarship from university but there is a wb state govt provided SVMCM scholarship. The Campus is fully green

I applied for multiple NITs During Josaa Counselling but my top 5 suitable choice according to my home location and considering other limiting factors was NIT Rourkela, NIT Silchar, NIT Durgapur, NIT Patna and IIEST Shibpur. Apart from these, I have also Applied for Calcutta University and Jadavpur University. I have got approval from NIT DGP,Calcutta University and Jadavpur University. But I have chosen NIT because of better Placement records and better campus Life. Moreover it's an Institution of of National Importance and Hold a good NIRF rank. So I preferred this choice above others. I wasn't rejected from the above colleges, but simply i didn't get the eligible rank for them. And the 3 which I got, i choosed the best among them. The Admission process of NIT DGP was through Josaa and CSAB counselling. The College and the Branch will be alloted to you according to your rank in the JEE MAINS Examination. The Closing rank of this exam in 2025 of General Category for the lowest Branch in BTech is 63387. The overall admission process for the college, apart from hostel allotment, was completely online. 14-15 documents were to be submitted in pdf format in the specific website provided. I was getting all nits of india and also some iits.The only reasons of not choosing them is branch ,i was getting lower branches in all other colleges so i choose this. I think this was the best college onmy rank. I prefer this college because of the ranks amongs the Nits and the best I can get according to my rank is this . This college is not so far from city Center . Which is the best thing according to me . Malls and all restuarants, hotels are appx only 2 km away from college like you can get there walking.. NIT DURGAPUR - A Detailed Breakdown

I applied for GURU GHASIDAS UNIVERSITY, BILASPUR (a GFTI in chattishgarh) and i got an secured seat in the CSE department too of that college too in my 2nd round of JOSAA councelling but in the CSAB round 1 i got a seat in NIT Durgapur in the Biotechnology department. I was a NEET aspirant but due to scam of NEET 2024 i was unable to get a good rank and secure a good government medical college and i was passionate about biology from my childhood so i chose Biotechnology and obviously an NIT is far more better than any GFTI be it in terms of placement, infrastructure, environment or any other things. I applied for some higher prioritized brances too in my choice filling but due to poor rank i wasn't able to secure a seat there. Students get seats in NIT(s), IIIT(s) and in GFTI (s) through JOSAA (a counselling process of 5 rounds) and CSAB (a counselling process of 2 rounds) and in IIT (s) through JOSAA counselling only. Students secure their desired seats based on their merits with the rank that they obtained in their JEE Mains exams and JEE ADVANCED (for IIT ) although admission is based on ranks but the authority have criterias like you have to score 75% marks in maths ,physics and chemistry in your Boards exams or you should be among top 20 percentile students of your class 12th board exams there is a separate process of admission too for the foreign students and NRI students althogh the fees structure is very high for their courses.The overall counselling process was good and seamless but after allotment of the college, the document verification and fees submission process is a little hectic....Read More
