Remarks

The management was not what we would expect. Was an average college which gifted us students with some fundamentals of our respective crafts and a lot of nice memories.

Entrance Preview

The entrance was KEAM CEE (Kerala Engineering and medical Common Entrance Examinations). I don't remember my score and my ranking were rather poor( in range 20k). I chose AWH Engineering college because it was in my hometown and chose Computer Science stream because I had done my 10+2 in Computer Science Stream.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curriculum is average at best. It was at the University Of Calicut. I was enrolled in 2011 batch with the syllabus of 2009 which they had researched and fine tuned in 2005. So in computer science, I was already studying stuff that was nearly 5yrs outdated. There was no choice for electives or anything, we were all given sub as a batch.

Internships Opportunities

Not that I'm aware of, we had to go find internships and stuff like that ourselves. I'm not aware of anyone receiving any stipend either. Overall since the college didn't provide anything in this area, it made the students more self-reliable so it was a win-win I guess.

Placement Experience

1.5

While I was in my fourth year. There was a campus recruitment drive. Very few of my mates got placed in these companies. The companies were mostly small companies based in and around calicut. The packages weren't that great either mostly around ₹1.5LPA. The only top companies worth mentioning Sutherland, Kites, Bravo code etc.

College Events

4

In our college we annually have 3 celebrations these are 1. Athma College Technical Fest 2. Saaya College Arts Fest 3. Sports College Sports Day Athma is the Annual College Technical Fest, it is conducted over 2-3 days. All the different streams of engineering showcase the marvels of their respective fields. The would be various tech events and competitions eg: coding challenges, mechanical and electrical challenges etc Saaya is the annual arts fest it is conducted over 2 days and all the performing and non-performing arts and students participate in them branch wise (CSE, EEE, ECE, MECH etc) Sports day is conducted as a one-day event. mostly sprints, jumps etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is mostly feasiable, the students are admitted in different quotas as Govt. Management, NRI. The Govt quotas have to pay the govt approved fees which still gets divided based on other cast quotas. A general candidate has to pay ₹60k per year. So it would total as ₹240k. Management seats are more expensive than the govt seats and would amount to ₹100k per year totaling as ₹400k. The NRI seats are more expensive than the management seats.

Fees and Financial Aid

Not that I'm aware of, but banks in Kerala have pretty easy procedure of getting an education loan I guess. I myself didn't have any education loans but my friends have loans from different banks and said although the interest was a bit high, they didn't have to start paying back till 2yr after graduation.

Campus Life

2.5

The campus life, well it is as good as we and our friends make it. Our campus was as dry as a scorched field but we managed to have a good campus life with what we had. The gender ratio was almost even. Mechanical and electrical branches had more male candidates but it was even out by ECE and CS/IT branches. As far as competitions go we had some isolated competitions from time to time nothing special there.

Hostel Facilities

3

I wouldn't know much about this as I was a day scholar. I hear the hostel facilities weren't that bad. The mess food was also bearable as in any mess. Although most students after 2nd year moved out to PG or Room sharing in and around the college. The average rentals would be around ₹3k per student for Room Sharing without the food. So I would say around ₹5k per month per student including food and accommodation.

Alumni/Alumna

Well, we were charged an Alumni fees of around ₹500 per student per year but that was all as far as Alumni were concerned. Seniors were mostly friendly with us although not the most friendly. The politics is a bit different 1st years were mostly friendly with 3rd years and a little cross with the 2nd years. and this trend has carried on since a long time back. So in case of a campus fued initiates 1st yrs and 3rd yrs pair up and 2nd yrs and 4th yrs would be in the opposition

Exam Structure

In our scheme that is the 2009 batch for the theory we had 70 external and 30 internal. For getting this 30 marks we had to write 2 internal assessment exams and submit 2 assignments as well. The external was conducted by Calicut university. for a pass mark, we need to get an overall of 50 marks in 100. So the cut off nearly was 22 for internal and 28 for external. For LAB, we had internal of 50 and external of 50. We had to submit rough and fair records, get our experiments signed in timely and all. overall it was okay nothing out of the ordinary

Admission

The admission process was pretty straight forward, we ( the entrance candidates) had to apply to colleges of our choice through govt website and were allotted colleges accordingly. Once my college was allotted, I was had to submit the relevant documents ( 10th, 10+2 certs, conduct certs etc) had to pay the fees for the 1st year ( ₹60k for 1st year in govt. quota) additionally around ₹15k more as caution and other college fees and I was in.

Faculty

3.5

At the time of my joining the college and faculty association were at cross. So we had a lot of temporary staffs in the first 2 yrs. Afterwards from the 3rd year on wards we started getting good staffs. ( mostly M.Tech grads). Although I would say none of them had any practical knowledge .

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is excellent because it contains so many informative ideas and the practical lab is the best. I chose this course to get an idea about the civil engineering field and i m satisfied with it. The faculty members are very supportive and helpful. The student ratio is very low. Faculties at our college are MTech holders and PHD also. There will be two series exams and one university exam in each semester and there are eight semesters in Btech.
