Placement Experience

4

Placements at Amrita have always been excellent. Be it Engineering or Arts and Sciences, students who are eligible and opt for placements have more than one job offer, on an average. Exercising their dream option, some of them have up to three job offers by the end of their course. At Amrita, companies vie with each other to be the early birds for hiring, thanks to the quality of students, past and present. Our alumni have created such a great impression in the minds of their employers through hard work, commitment and a rare sense of dedication to the profession that all our past recruiters come again and again to recruit, their off take increasing with each passing year. Amrita alumni hold leading positions in companies of international reckoning. Companies compliment the institution for the significant contributions made by Amrita graduates in their respective fields. Moreover, they talk about the positive influence of Amritians' personal behavior on their colleagues.

College Events

4

Its an eventful College.Every time there will be some or the other Events or Celebrations Conducted. There are many Groups in Our college for the same Like Amrita sanjeevani team which conducts social service responsibility projects, Ayudh for Cultural related Events.IEEE conferences etc.. And the biggest Event of all is Amma's Birthday celebrations Eg: The Department of Social Work, Coimbatore campus is organising a State Level Capacity Building Training Programme on Strengthening the Skills of Rescue Procedures of Childline Functionaries from October 20-22, 2016. The Department of Computer Science, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Amritapuri Campus is organizing a two day national level workshop on Internet of Things (IoT) from October 18 to 19, 2016. Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee Structure is expensive for an average middle class family.Amrita unlike most universities doesn't have a different fee structure for the management entries and merit entries. (And of course apart from the one-time donation) There were always debates over this as there were no special concessions for even the brightest. But Amrita started a scholarship program for the toppers in every branch effective for the 2012-2016 batch. A sum of rupees 50,000 annually. (This was always looked as an act to overshadow the fact that the fees were suddenly hiked by 70,000 rs annually for the 2012 admissions) On the first year, these scholarships are issued to the first few admissions to every branch. On the forthcoming years the scholarships are awarded based on their performances. The fees for all the programs are collected in one-shot and there were never any options for installments which we knew about. But the best part of Amrita is that it never charged a sizable amount as academic fee in the academic period once you have paid the fees before the start of every academic year. Many colleges and universities do such things and sometimes without proper information about the newly incorporated fee being explained to the students and their parents. (And note that I mention only Academic fee. I did not mention about any club fee, celebration fee etc. But also note that if at all any such fee is collected it would me most a small amount)

Campus Life

4

In accordance with the continuous evaluation system followed by our University, students are assessed and evaluated throughout the semester. On a given day, it is very likely that students may have project work or quizzes and assignments in several classes. Amrita has a credit-based course curriculum, and assignments, seminars, presentations, practicals, and viva voce are part of daily life on the campus. This system helps inculcate a sense of responsibility among students. It helps them become creative and productive during their study period; this, in turn, helps them when they join a company after completing their studies. A certain percentage of attendance is mandatory in order to write the examinations in all courses. Lunch break is from 12:00 noon to 01:50 p.m. Students stay back on campus after regular class hours with prior permission. This is required for those who want to use the additional time to complete their laboratory or written assignments. In the evening, students have the opportunity to attend evening bhajans in the Ashram prayer hall. In Amma's divine presence, they become relaxed after intense college hours. After bhajans, dinner is served till 09:00 p.m.Student Activities AMRITA KALOTSAVAM A two day arts-and-culture event on the campus is conducted by the students to exploit their inherent special talents. Competitions are held house-wise: Amritamayi, Anandamayi, Chinmayi and Jyothirmayi. Facilitated by the staff, students themselves are trained to organize the various events – a part of their life at Amrita. CAMPUS DAY Campus day is celebrated every year with an open house meeting of parents, project exhibitions and cultural activities, usually during March – April every year. SPORTS DAY One day in the even semester is devoted for competitions in sports where students get the opportunity to exhibit their talents in athletics and games. The facilities provided by the campus help create a healthy spirit of competitiveness in these events. AMMA'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS Amma's birthday finds an international gathering of Her devotees at Amritapuri in the month of September. Students are encouraged to participate in the service activities initiated by the Math during this time. Three days in September are marked as “service days” for the students of the campus. ONAM CELEBRATIONS Onam, the traditional festival of Kerala is celebrated by the students before the start of Onam vacation. The traditional Pulikali, Chenda melam and various folk and modern art forms are the special features of this festive occasion. Samved Samved ‘ is the quarterly newsletter for ‘instilling awareness and responsibility among the youth of today regarding the inevitability of cultivating a ‘service attitude’ in us for the survival of mankind. This newsletter highlights the service activities the students and staff of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham volunteer to involve themselves in. It also includes articles that intend to inspire the youth to work for bringing about the urgently needed positive changes in society. The first edition was released on Amma’s 58th birthday.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The first year hostels are quite good to be honest except for the part where you have to clean the rooms, bathrooms yourself whenever the warden asks you to do so.Anyhow you’ll get used to it. Hot water facility isn’t available for bathing.Drinking water is available 24X7 and is available as hot, cold, normal. The laundry facility is available within the ashram itself and is quite expensive when compared to the ones near our homes, but you have to give it there as there are no other laundry shops nearby. After first year also you’ll have to go there for getting your laundry done. The Mess food is not that good though but according to our seniors it has improved over the years , but still many restaurants are within the vicinity of the campus and food is available at pocket money rates. If you’re from a place where spices are highly used you’re not gonna like the food! WiFi Facility is available in first year hostels and the speed is quite good. Social Networking and video streaming sites are blocked during class hours.Certain websites are blocked for good. You are not allowed to use kettle, cooker etc.You won’t feel the need though as the hotels nearby taste the same, in fact better. Extension cords are not allowed in first-year hostels. First years get Newspaper Daily(English and Malayalam) and from second year on wards a common TV is available.

Alumni/Alumna

The stronger the network of alumni, the greater is the impact. Additionally, the sense of belonging and identity is enhanced and this has a positive outcome when senior batch alumni return to the campus to deliver guest lectures, provide mentoring, participate in campus placements process alumni of an institution are its ambassadors. Their character, personality, intellect, achievement, success and recognition add great value to the positioning of the alma mater as a prestigious educational institution producing high quality professionals.

Exam Structure

Exams are very fair at Amrita university. Major exam conducts only two times in a year and rest are minors. In a semester(6 months), only one major and one minor happens. Categorizaton of marks: Major(70) + Minor(30)= Total(100) For some subjects like Behavioural science, German, French, Communication skills etc. - division is: Major(60) + Minor(40) = Total(100) SGPA is calculated in every semester and CGPA is an average of each semester.

Admission

I have bought the form when notification regarding Amrita university exam was released applied for the same.. now a days there will be possibilities online for filling and submitting the form. Then attended the exam.. i was called for counselling with the necessary certificates and they asked my option and I chose Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Faculty

3.5

All the Faculties are well qualified with M.tech and higher degrees. They undergo tough interview procedures in order to get selected. Most of the Faculties are so very interested in teaching and are helpful. Some of them are a bit arrogant but still i appreciate all my teachers who did a great job in moulding the future of their students. As in two sides of a coin there are both supportive as well as care free teachers but when he or she understands the curiosity and interest of a student they are really welcoming

The course curriculum is the worst. Teachers rush through the portions so that they can finish at the earliest. It may be because the university has a unjustifiable timetable. There is very little practicals given. The ones that are given are just for namesake.
