Course Curriculum Overview
NIT Srinagar, Previously known as REC Srinagar is one of the oldest engineering colleges in India. The faculties in the civil engineering department are very experienced and qualified. The faculty-to-student ratio is about 1:7. Most faculty members are PhD in their respective fields and they teach in classroom using smart boards. The academic calendars are out at the start of each session and all the exams and others activities are done accordingly. The questions papers are quite conceptual and strictly based on course outline and outcome.
Internships Opportunities
Companies like Increff, Bluestacks, Rupeek, Nextrun, EduStation, Intellipat, Oracle, Samsung, DE Shaw, Oracle etc. offer internship opportunities with a stipend ranging from 15k-65k per month. They work on various projects from different domains one of my friends worked on mobile application development related to fitness trackers.
Placement Experience
Placements are quite good, from circuital branches most of the students get multiple offers and from non-circuital branches also placement is around 90%. Companies start visiting at the end of the 6th semester. This year more than 250 companies visited the campus with more than 1250 offers. The package is 36.5 lpa and the average is around 8 lpa. Different companies offer different profiles like SDE, BA, Analyst, GET, ELT, MT etc. More than 90% of students get placed here. I'm also placed and will work there.
Fees and Financial Aid
Recently Mess fees were increased from 17000 to 20000. Students belonging to reserved categories get scholarships. On completion of 4 years most of the students get multiple job offers. The placement scenario is quite good. The average CTC is around 8LPA.
Campus Life
This is one of the most beautiful college campuses in india, located on the banks of the famous Dal Lake. Techveganza is the annual tech fest of NIT Srinagar, it is the biggest tech fest in the valley. There are more than 20 Clubs currently functional here. Every weekend there is some event/competition organised. Infrasture is also quite quiet, a 700-bed hostel is under construction. The library here is one of the largest libraries in north India, almost all the famous journals can be found there. Classrooms are well equipped with smart digital boards with enough space for sitting. There are basketball, badminton, volleyball, and tennis courts along with cricket, football ground and a nation-standard running track are there. One can also play indoor games like table tennis, carrom, and chess in the common hall. There are Clubs, and social groups run by students here.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are quite good, rooms are well furnished with bed, table, chair, and almirah. Each hostel has their seperate mess and quality of food is average. The menu for the mess is decided by the student representatives. For the students of other states, it is compulsory to take the hostel facilities.
Admission
In order to get admitted to any NIT/IIT firstly one needs to complete his/her 12th (or intermediate). The application form for JEE Mains is filled out through the website jeemain.nta.nic.in. The registration fee depends on one's category, for general/EWS/OBC category Male candidates it is Rs.650; FOR General/EWS/OBC Female candidates and SC/ST/PWD it is Rs. 325. The application starts in December. According to reservation criteria, 50% of the seats are reserved for the students from their home state and the rest 50% of seats fall under All India Quota.
