Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I chose this course, especially because of my love of the subject. I always wondered about the mechanism of the human body and the process of evolution through many stages of other organisms. I had no idea about the placements. In the college, there are sufficient and well-qualified professors for upgrading one's education and overall life learning. There is no shortage of teachers at all. Nearly every other faculty member has been a top performer in their respective fields, with no hesitation in calling them a perfect blend of qualification and humility. They try their best to explain difficult theories with real-life examples (I know that from my personal experience, as well As said by my other friends from different disciplines, i.e., physics in college). All the semester and mid semester exams were on time, as guided by our governing University (ie. Vidyasagar University). The exams are quite on the higher side of being called as average. You have to put in a little extra effort to pass.

Internships Opportunities

3

TATA, Infosys, and the newly launched West Bengal Govt Portal are recruiting students as interns during the course. With a decent internship of Rs. 5,000–10,000/month in posts like Trainee, junior analyst, government schemes promoter, etc. The work can be in the form of: 1. Learning to analyse huge chunks of data in the company forum, 2. Managing Company data in Excel sheets, 3. Letting people know about all the Govt. on-going schemes by online and offline means, etc.

Placement Experience

3

Students in the final semester become eligible to appear in the college placement for the companies. Besides that, you can apply for part-time internships in government and private companies through out your course. The mentionable companies that recruit from our college are TATA, Infosys, Wipro, WILP, ICICI Bank, etc. Offers are made in most of the departments for various work profiles. The lowest and highest packages we offer in our course are 10,000 and 38,000 INR/month. You can be placed in various profiles, such as Operations Executive, Analyst, Junior Attendee, etc. You can also get a job in a Zoological or Botanical Park, as a research laboratory junior scientist, guest lecturer, etc. Nearly 30–40% of the students get placed. My plan is to pursue a postgraduate degree in Zoology and then apply for a junior researcher post.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees for this college are comparatively lower than most of the other colleges because it is aided by the government. You can also avail of different scholarships. SVMCM, Vidyasarathi, TATA, and Jindal are some of the preferred scholarships to avail of. Out of them, SVMCM is the best in terms of the ease of the process and the amount of assistance.

Campus Life

3.5

The mentionable annual festival began on the day of the establishment of the college. Other than that, seminars and small fests are held every 2–3 months. The college also organises workshops in association with leading brands like TATA, Infosys, etc to promote entrepreneurship. Books by several standard national and international authors are available in the library of the college. In addition to that the college has an online portal of digital library for several other books. All the required accessories are available in all departments. For example, various specimens of animals, microscopes, sclaples, etc. are available in adequate samples. Sports and other extracurricular activities are heavily promoted in our college. For example, football, volleyball, cricket in addition with music, drama and art forms like poetry, article writing, etc. Some of our seniors have played in state-level football matches as well.

Admission

About the eligibility, you need to pass class 12th from a recognised board with at least 45% marks. The application for admission is only through the college website. There is no admission fee for applying to this college from the year of COVID, as directed by the West Bengal Govt. The application starts with 2–3 months of the class 12th result of the West Bengal Board. You can also avail of reservation benefits for admission cut-offs. It becomes a little easier for reserved candidates to get a seat with a bit less marks. The admissions process was pretty smooth. I didn't face any problem while the process. Even if an 18-year-old kid can easily perform all the documentation online and at the time of admission all by himself or herself. (Just as I did)

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

The course is very relevant as it provides us an overall knowledge of biology and not dividing it into various sections rather giving us an insight of every aspect of biology. It includes everything such as microbiology, zoology, botany, physiology, molecular biology and so on.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
