What Students Say
Likes
- The way most teachers interact with the students is very good as the teachers are social and does not say anything to the students that they should not
- The Regional centers are very well built and provide canteen facilities should the student need them
- the colleges provided by IGNOU to the students are decent as well the examinations are conducted in those colleges only
Dislikes
- The examiners sometimes look like they are not even trying to conduct fair examinations as i have seen students bringing in devices to aid them in the exams
- There is a lack of motivation among students as there is no regularity provided in their studies
- Many companies do not hire distance learners and even when they do the packages are not as great when compared to regular learners
Course Curriculum Overview
BCA is a realtively easy course yet the important thing one has to worry about are the skills you learn during the course as programming in of itself is not very hard but in order to get a job it's quite difficult as the tech field requires you to have experience. BCA also plays an important part in the growing IT field because technology will never stop evolving and hence neither will this course, with time more specialisations will be added to the course. the course curriculum has been pretty great so far and the learning curve has been quite forgiving but the teaching methods can improve especially when it comes to online teaching method. the difficulties faced by students during exams is low generally but when you look at it from online teaching methods perspective things get tricky because practicals are something that are better performed in the presence of a teacher.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is very good as the period for registering for the next semester is big but also gets extended many times. The complete cost of education is around 48,000 INR for the online course, and there are discounts given every semester when a student applies for digital learning materials. I'm not sure about the scholarships or financial aids given to the students but like me students can go for the online teaching which does help a lot with the fees campus employement should not be something students should look for as, for the course of the duration students should actively work on their skills and get employed themselves to start out their careers
Campus Life
there aren't many social festivals that are held in ignou because it's an open learning university but the students who are provided with colleges can participate in the events that are held by the colleges they are provided and the same goes for clubs. the range and accessibility of the books and journals available are pretty neat but that is limited to study material as i don't think IGNOU themselves provide any books and journals outside of their courses there are many social groups and clubs formed bye the student themseleves and ignou provides an student portal for the students where the students can check details about their courses and examinations.
Admission
I am a student from IGNOU (Indra Gandhi National Open University), and Pursuing Bachelor's in Computer Application(BCA). Judging IGNOU from the fact that it is an open university is not at all fair because colleges such as "Rajdhani college" are provided for students who opt for them, the eligibility for the course that i'm doing is pretty good as BCA in of itself is a very simple course and the applicant must be 12th pass/10+2 , and the applying for the course was relatively easy as the application method is online as well as offline, the fees is 8000 per semester but you can get a 15% discount should you go for the digital learning, the application dates normally start mid december and end in late february. The Exam schedule is also pretty neat as they are conducted in June or December depending upon the semester a student is in and any improvement in the admission proccess would the fact that the official website of IGNOU i.e. https://www.ignou.ac.in is pretty slow at times.
