For outside non-muslim community, there are some misconceptions about the environment at AMU. But the fact is reverse. This is one of the best places to study, to live, to spread the love.
When I was done with all entrance examinations and the results were being announced, I got selected for admission in Petrochemical Engineering branch of B.Tech. at Aligarh Muslim University. Apart from this, I have the opportunity to join a number of AIEEE colleges (NITs) and a few other universities such as Jamia Milia Islamia and Bundelkhand University, Jhansi. I found AMU to be the best place due to its repertoire and prominence apart from the interest in the branch I was offered.
The course curriculum is well designed by the eminent faculty members of Aligarh Muslim University. It was redesigned when I was in B.Tech. (in the year 2012, I guess). I was able to qualify the GATE examination without any extra study material for GATE, just the class notes were enough.
They arrange the internship if asked by the student. Until my time at the university summer internship was not made mandatory but Training and Placement Office is there to help you through.
Training and Placement office arranges the campus interviews by inviting companies related to almost all the branches at ZHCET, AMU. I was placed in Tata Consultancy Services during my 7th semester.
The Annual College Festival of Zakir Husain College of Engineering & Technology, Aligarh Muslim University, "ZARF" is the main highlight of all the events throughout the year. There is a number of sports, literary and cultural events at the departmental level, college level, and university level.
This is the best thing about the University that no matter what is your financial status, you can easily afford the Fees. Back in 2009. i paid roughly INR 4800 for the whole course and annual charge of about 1200-1300 was needed every year. Now it has been revised but still remains well below INR 10,000 per year.
If you belong to minority community and financially weak, there is central minority merit cum means scholarship (25000 to 40000 per year). Apart from that, there are hundreds of scholarships of smaller amounts 500 to 2000 per month) for needy students.
Campus life surreal. You can do whatever your hobby is, there is the swimming pool, horse riding club, hockey, football, cricket grounds, athletics facilities, gymnasium, acting, singing, music clubs and anything you name it. I don't have any data to support but there are roughly 10-15% girls in engineering college barring the mechanical engineering. AMU RoboClub is there for robotics,
Hostel facilities are excellent. You have good quality food in mess for just INR 1000 per month (additionally, an occasional deficit of 200-300 per month). Both the Boys hostels and Girls hostel for Engineering students have various sports facilities. Reading Room, common room for TV and indoor games and Gym are the common features of hostels. In boys hostels, you can play billiards also.
AMU has its students all over the world and they are actively associated with AMU fraternity. They are really very helpful.
Semester examination system is being run for all graduate courses of ZHCET, AMU. There is a Mid Semester Exam in every semester. Apart from these main exams for all the courses, there are a number of class tests, quiz, home assignments etc whose marks are added to the overall evaluation.
There is announcement of admission forms in mid February to March and then applicants have roughly one months time to apply. I had appeared for written test and then merit list was released by AMU admission section. I made it to the second list of candidates selected for admission (waiting list). Then there is typical admission process by document verification and fee submission.
The faculty members are experienced and student friendly (a few exceptions exist everywhere, in case AMU this exception is less than 10%). They are involved in various research activities and motivate students to go BIG in any field. They teach in such a way that qualifying the GATE examination becomes very easy for any interested student.

The college placement is quite satisfactory. It is about 99% for the CSE/IT department with an average package of 3-4LPA. The students from the core branch need to work a little hard to get placed as per their dream. The companies that visit the campus include Wipro, Infosys, TCS, Accenture, and many more.
