Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

To be honest, our syllabus does not demand one to be involved in a lot of the practical side of things. The theory part is very vast. Too vast, almost. The frustration of being forced to imagine the structure and working of machinery used in the industry instead of actually experiencing it is evident when we try doing things outside the college.

Internships Opportunities

College does not provide internships to B.Tech students. An internship is an option for the Post Graduate (M.Tech) students only.

Placement Experience

4.5

Government Engineering College, Thrissur is deemed to be the 3rd best engineering colleges in the state only behind National Institute Of Technology, Calicut (obviously) and the College Of Engineering, Trivandrum. That reputation certainly helps when it comes to placements. Every year, around 300 out of the 540 final year students get placed in reputed companies. Most of the placements are in the IT sector. Core company placements are much lesser in number, accounting to less than only 10% of total placements.

College Events

5

The college is still hung over from the 3 days' celebrations of this year's national level multi fest Dyuthi. Many reputed artists have conducted pro-shows as part of Dyuthi in the last few years. Celebrities attending different college programs has become a routine now. The Institute Of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE) national inner college meet was conducted in our college this year (Yukthi). Other programs conducted in an academic year in GECT include Chithram (college film festival spanning over 3 days), Confluence (college cultural fest) and different sport meets (year-wise and department-wise). The Thrissur Motor Show which is a must-go for every automobile enthusiast in the state is conducted every year by the students of our college.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Being a government college, the fee per semester is just Rs 8625. But the government also gives fee concession to a lot of students as scholarship.

Fees and Financial Aid

Most of the students get at least one scholarship. As getting top ranks in the entrance exam is a pre requisite to get into the college, only the financial background matters when applying for scholarships. It is very easy to go through the otherwise painful process of applying and availing scholarships as the college provides all the help that they can. Since the overall expenditure over the duration, of course, is not too high, not many students apply for educational loans. But the few of those who do find it easy enough to complete the processes from the college.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The college hostels do not have enough vacancies to house all the students. So hostel rooms are allotted on basis of the distance from the students' homes to the college. One room houses two students. There is no room rent. One had to pay only for what he/she eats. The food in the whole district is average, and that available at our college is no better. But it's not too bad that you'll have to stop halfway through the plate.

Alumni/Alumna

There is a platform called the GECT Development Trust through which the alumni interact with current students and provide support for the development of infrastructure of the college as well as in placement of students. The group is a very active one and helpful to the college in every way.

Faculty

4

The qualifications required to be a staff in GECT ensures that every single person presents there is suited for the position they equip. Again, the factor of being a government institution does play a role in how the faculty behaves. They're all a bit lazy. But the rapport between teachers and students is amazing! So even when the subject bores you, professors save the day with some witty contributions of their own.

Upon reaching s7 students are invited for campus placement but they have to pass different criteria to become eligible for attending the interview, a minimum cgpa of 7.5 and academic skills a these are the basic requirements and an aptitude test will be given and in further selection these criteria are looked. I plan on pursuing a job after completing by btech. More than half the students in a batch are getting placed usually.
