Course Curriculum Overview

5

I am currently a third year undergraduate student of B.Sc Genetics(2022-2025). Since Genetics is sort of like a mother subject, it involves aspects of many dofferent subjects like, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Evolutionary Biology, Biophysics, Statistics, Ethics, Immunology, etc. Our curriculum covers all the necessary topucs and subjects that are required to fully understand Genetics. Every subject is there in great detail. Along with the theoretical approach of all these subjects, the practical part is also very specific and vast as it covers all the necessary topics required and prepares us for a lot of real world problems we might face while pursuing our masters

Internships Opportunities

3

We haven't been provided with many opportunities yet. But, whenever I have had to attend a symposium or a conference or an internship, they have been very lenient and helpful. They also oragnise seminars from time to time and provide us with details of online internships and courses that would be helpful for us.

Placement Experience

2.5

Students are eligible for placements during their sixth semester of UG degree. Many laboratry companies that run medical diagnostics visit and worthy students are offered jobs. What we should remember is that this is a research oriented subject and not a job oriented one. If you want to study Genetics, it is only fair to pursue higher studies and not a job right after your bachelors. I personally want to do my Masters after my graduation.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are many scholarships available to students based on their financial backgrounds and merit. There are also many scholarships provided to students who come from weaker sections of society such as scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, etc. I have not undertaken any campus placements as of now as I havent completed my degree yet but as per what our Principal had told us, this is a subject that is meant to be higher studied and researched upon. We are not provided with any stipends.

Campus Life

3

Our college hosts an Annual Sports Meet regularly. We celebrate almost all the major festivals such as Saraswati Pujo, Teacher's Day, Independence Day, etc. Apart from this, Fresher's Party and Farewell Party are also oragnised. Last year, our college celebrated it's 20 year birthday with a 2 day event comprising of performances, recitations, music, drama, ceremonies, etc.Our library is very well stacked with books from every department and the librarians are very helpful and guide us. The process of issuing is also very easy. We have a digital library too. There aren't many student run groups or clubs and they should be made.

Admission

The admission process was quite smooth. An entrance exam called CET is held. You can find the application form on our college's official website or our univeristy (MAKAUT) website. The exams are held every year. I have no idea about the Reservation Benefits as I am a General Category Student.

Faculty

4.5

Our professors are all very qualified and they hold doctorate degrees and are very well informed in their respective fields of research/study. The faculty to student ratio is very good as the number of seats is quite low which enables every student to get proper attention. The teachers are also very fun to interact with and they maintain a very friendly ambience. We can call oir teachers or message them or approach them in college regatding any doubts we have and they always help us out.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is very relevant as it provides us an overall knowledge of biology and not dividing it into various sections rather giving us an insight of every aspect of biology. It includes everything such as microbiology, zoology, botany, physiology, molecular biology and so on.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

Placement Experience:

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
