Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

The first year can be tough because of obsolete subjects not related to CS . Those are engineering mathematics 1 and 2, chemistry, material science, physics etc. Punjabi is the compulsory subject in 1rst year and drug abuse awareness is the compulsory subject in 2nd year. The real subjects of computer science starts from 2nd year. This syllabus is based on the UGC guidelines rules so not much to complain about college. The difficulty level is moderate. If you study in class you can pass, even if you study on your own you can pass with good marks. But veryess attention to studies can definitely give you a 'back'/'supply'. So dont take the exams lightly especially the first 2 years.

Internships Opportunities

2.5

I have not reached the internship stage yet but various organisations from pathankot and jalandhar comes here to ask for registering for internship. However students do get internship based on their own efforts. Some also come here advertising for internship. You can get that.

Placement Experience

2

You are eligible for placement drive from 4th year. Usually students spend their 7th sem in internship and 8th sem in placement drive. Infosys and tcs are main recruiters but sometimes companies like Amazon may try come . The average package is 4-5 lakh per annum but students if work on their own can get easily upto 10lakh per annum. The highest one last year 2023-2024 was 40lakh per annum. The % placement was around 30-40% depending on the batch. Some students also prepare for gate and dont appear for placement drive and some students also prepare for government exams who dont appear in placement drive.

Fees and Financial Aid

The campus is a branch of main campus Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The fee structure is same as main campus i.e. ?85,500 (2023-27) for odd semester and ?60,000 for even semester. The admission is on the basis of 12th passed marks if jee based merit doesn't fill up all seats, which usually happens. The faculty is reputed and qualified but the campus doesn't have facilities that rival that of main campus amritsar. However if a student could not get seat at main campus he can surely apply here. Sc/st scholarship is available here since it is a government associated college and low income student also get scholarship for even semesters. The placement happens alongside the main campus students and are not differentiated during placement duration. The final degree at the end of graduation also bears name of main campus amritsar and holds the same value as those studying in main campus amritsar. However if you get seat at amritsar that is definitely more worth it . Hope it helps.

Campus Life

2

The regional campus is no match to the main campus. The lack of clubs and social events is the major drawback here. Only thing you can do here is the study and not much is there for co-curricular activities. However some events do happen but they are still not upto match. The major issue is the lack of competition that leads to lack of exposure. More enthusiastic student's lack causes a gloomy vibes so if you are really socially active enthusiastic person and needs occasionally events to spend off your energy, this isn't the right place. Go for amritsar campus.

Admission

The admission process at main campus is based on jee mains ranking. However if you couldn't get a seat there then you can definitely get a seat here with some decent marks in 12th exam. The reasom to choose this college is you are still part of GNDU Amritsar and can avail those services to your best. Your degree will hold some value better than some local college. The university is associated to government and thus doesn't bother you unnecessary for money as some private universities are reputed to. That is enough reason to choose it over than a local college.the usual cutoff of admission is around 2-2.5lakh based on jee mains. But this is increasing day by day based on increasing competition. So prepare better.

Faculty

3.5

Since there is no rush of students so faculty has ample attention time to give to students. One can go to specific professor for any help. The strength of class varies from 70-135 but atmost has only one section which doesn't create a mess of students. Asst. Professor Harjit Singh teaches math and is good at that. S. Satbir Singh has ample experience to share and is more of mentor than just a professor. The best from engineering department are S. Sharanjit Singh who teaches DS and Mrs. Harjot Kaur. Exams happen in two parts- Mid Sem exams and End sem exams, where former carry 30% and latter 70% with some marks based on files/projects as per subject. The course structure is same as main campus amritsar. The question paper comes directly from amritsar so there is no difference in questions. Hope this helps.

Other Applied Colleges

I have applied for migration from regional campus to main campus amritsar. It has been approved and i am going to attend there from 7 oct 2024. I have spent 1 year in GNDU regional campus gurdaspur and giving my response on that basis.

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
