Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is comprehensive but the teaching methods are less theoretical and more practical. They don't stick to the curriculum that they've established- but they've designed the course in a way that you'll get industry experience, from moot courts to industry pitches, students work on it all. To suggest improvements, I wish they provided notes for every lecture which they don't.

Placement Experience

4

For mass media especially, there's few to no placements but it's easy to find your own placement if you flaunt your course and the soft skills that they equip you with. Internships are something that for mass media courses the college is keen on, they've also made it a part of the marking system.

Fees and Financial Aid

The course consists of 6 semesters spanning across 3 years. The new education policy integrated in the course brings about a dynamic comprehensive overview of other courses from the sciences to commerce subjects. Students can choose between their majors and minors- for instance, major in Mass Media and minor in Management studies. The course is self-financed and the yearly fee structure according to NEP is 75000 per year (2 semesters). However, I don't fall under the NEP which is why the fees was comparatively less. The subjects remain the same - the fees include library fees, infrastructure fees and more. There's a management quota option too. There is a catholic minority quota too. There is financial aid provided through college for which you have to submit an application to the general office. The college also gives yearly scholarships for academic excellence in courses.

Campus Life

5

The campus life is amazing! Love the extracurriculars- We have Malhar fest one of the most renowned college fests. The extracurricular events are curated for every course- The mass media department has its own fest - Zeigiest The Microbiology department has microbes fest. The Management studies department has Zephyrus fest. The Hindi department has Antas fest. The commerce department has Sitare fest. The English department has Ithaka. Fitoor a committee that supports theatre. The best part is that people from all streams can be a part of any of these fests and committees

Admission

It was one of the top colleges in Mumbai for mass media. I had applied to Jai Hind and KC for mass media and I got into both, but I chose St. Xavier's I was extremely happy when I cracked the entrance. You crack the entrance exam first that has a unique curriculum the questions change every year, there's no reference papers available. You'll have to study basic economics, data interpretation, grammar, and logical reasoning. Current affairs is also important. They allocated around 40% or the seats to catholic minorities, 20% to management quotas and 40% to general admissions.

Faculty

3

The faculty to student-ratio is good. For mass media, we have external faculty who are industry experts. So the fees structure in this case makes sense. Over the semester we have 2 Continuous Internal Assessments (CIA) may be assignment based or written papers. The subjects here are practical so the CIAs are assignment based. Then we have an end semester exam, it also comprises of the portion allotted for CIA. The Mass Media faculty is old and experienced, we have a good alumni connect that helps with workshops and practical experience sessions throughout the course. Maintaining at least 65% attendance in overall subjects in important. They won't let you write the end semester otherwise. They are very serious when it comes to academics. There are a few inexperienced faculties that teach the SYs but they're liabilities because the new introduced diverse subjects

Course Curriculum Overview:

It's good, it's fun and I enjoy it. It changes every sem and that's why we also get to explore more of the subjects. It also depends on the professor tho. First year is to chose 6 different subjects and explore. Then second year you get to choose one major and two minors. Major are then divided into 3 parts, the 2 minor subject are elaborated and one compulsory subject which is English, this continues for third year. There are 2-3 additional subjects that change every sem too like PE, EVS, etc.
