Course Curriculum Overview

5

Course curriculum is best fo my course, BCA. We are taught from everything basic to core subjects that are taught in B.tech CSE and its specalizations. Relevant booming technologies like IIOT, Cyptography are included in our topic. The curriculum is further going to be updated as we are about to convert normal 3yr Ug course to 4yr UG programmes. There are no science subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Maths. We are studying math but not the complex integrals, differentiations etc which are in no way related to the course i'm doing but the discrete maths topics that are necessary in building mathematical reasoning and aptitude. This influenced my decision to choose my course. There are mini projects with most of the subjects which enables us to gain hands on experience iver subjects. I don't think this practical method is practised in any other average UG college. Even still for courses related to tech like BCA, BTech CSE, IT etc need to be more rapidly upgrading their curriculum as tech is advancing at a rapid pace everyday. So for studens to be employable-ready, have to work hard and proper guidance to be provided from the college also. Exam timings are peace and well placed in a year's time. Also the quality of exms are good.

Internships Opportunities

5

There are lots of internship opportunities available inside the campus. VIT has its own business incubator, where there are numerous start-ups under development. Working in startups are a great opportunity to grow more than just being merely able to be employded and rather learn how running a company works, how to setup a businees and how to manage situations. There wont be any stipends provided by the companies under VIT business incubators but certifications will be provided and even some companies are AICTE approved as well. Then there are lots of companies that provide internship opportunities like Deloitte, DE-Shaw, Amazon etc. These companies provide intenship which can converted as credits by the students laso. These interns based on the performance are later converted to full-time employees also. There are even opportunities for publishing researh papers also and get APJ Abdul KAlam schoalrship for best paper published every month.

Placement Experience

5

Placements are the main highlight of teh institution. Currently in this placement season more than 11,000 offers from 450 companies. Campus placement is one such dimension that attracts the students to the institution. On successful completion of credits and properly maitaing a good CGPA, students get eligible for campus recruitment drives. For 3 yr courses, placement starts by the end of 5th semester but properly drive happens in last semester. For 4yr courses, the same happens after 7th semester, they also start sitting for placements. Recently, we had Nielsen IQ and Malomatia for 3 and 6LPA respectively. Highest package offered to BCA is 25LPA by Amazon AWS, don't whether the company would come this year. The average package would be somewher around 2-3 LPA. Most of the students like more than 75% students gets placed in my course. My plan after getting the degree is to go for placement and start working and gaining industry expertise/ experience. Most of the companies are demanding good aptitude and reasoning skills from every candidates.

Fees and Financial Aid

My course is Bachelor of Computer Application. For my course, the tution fee is 55,000 INR with an additional 2000 INR as caution deposit also to be paid during the first payment. This fee is paid for an year which comprises of two semesters. Each semester is 4-5 months long. There are no additional fees charged for lab, development or any other compulsory charges. Also no change for fees based on caegories like SC, ST, OBC is provided from VIT. Everyone pays equally apart from B.Tech courses where there is a category system not based on caste but based on the ranks obtained in the VITEEE entrance exam. There are fully funded education for state exam toppers and top 5 rankers of VITEEE exam. Then we've scholarships upto 50% for remaining top 50 students. There are scholarships that VIT provide for students that are economicall weaker but ot during the time of admission but afterwards. The there are grans provided for top 10 students performing well in each department every semester. For mycoiurse the course fee hasn't increased even after 3 years, I'm currently in third year and still when we talk to freshers ,we understand the fee hasn't increased over the period of time.

Campus Life

5

The overall college life experience is great for me. The diversity of students in our college is wide and diverse. Being able to live with these many students is an another experience. There are lots of clubs, chapters and societies in our college. There are lots of events that're being organized in ourinstitution on a daily basis. The Student's Welfare conducts events regularly and communicated to us via mails. Two major events are conducted in our college every year. The annual tech fest is called Gravitas and the cultural fest is Riviera. Celebrities from across the nation comes to our college and is conducted very well. VIT maintains a very rich collecttion of books and journals and is updated every particular period of time in a year. The dacilities provided for students are great. Even with this crowd, VIT is able to manage to provide equal access to all the machines, systems and the entire infrastructure. Classrooms are smart classrooms with internet provided to faculties and is completely cctv monitored. Sports and extra curricular activities take part of both teh fests and again on traditional days and conducted by individual clubs and chapters.

Hostel Facilities

5

Hostel rooms are again of multiple types. There are diferent types of rooms like AC ,Non-AC, Apartment type etc. These combinations are available in 1-bed all upto 8-bed rooms. Rooms are furnishd like contains bed, book shelves, big almirahs, study tables and study lamps individually for each room mate. Similarly we've hostel mess in Veg, non-Veg and special mess. Meal quality are best for some caterers and even worser for some others. Menu is protein rich and nutrient rich , the quantity is also well calculated and healthy. Hostel registration is done at the time of admission, it is again a very straight process. Renting out PG isn't entertained from teh university side.

Admission

My first priority was always given to NIT's and CSE or IT Btech course. But due to my lower rank in the entrance exam, couldn't make it up. Then I started to search on top BCA colleges. I found some names like Christ college, Presidency college etc. Christ had completed its admission procedur long before other colleges. Presidency college had very limited BCA seats so couldn't male it u[p. Now the option was VIT,Vellore. VIT University had its place in top 10 nirf ranks in different categories like based on Univesity, computer science etc. VIT was alwayas well known to me. I had several of my relatives studying here. The reputation of the institute and teh benchmark it has set in placements is known throughout. The admission process for BCA was very simple. We register in the VIT portal with some of our basic details and pay a small registratioin fee. Then based on the academic performance, seats are allotted. The eigibility percentage required is above 70%. The first 300 students are taken from the applied students based on there marks in class 12. For 2023-2026 batch onwards an online telefonic interview is laso being conducted. Admission is purely merit based and ther is no other way of getting into VIT.

Faculty

4

The faculties are the best and still there would be exceptions. Faculties are of different types here. We have permament professors, temporary profeessors and the PhD schoalrs also. Most the professors have completed doctorates. The quality of the professors also in turn proves advantageous for the students. But being able to teach is a very different thing from being very knowledgeable abiut the subject. There are topics which a faculty took an entire 1hr lecture to complete, still we get no idea and then our fried teaches us in 10-15 mins. Faculty to student ratio is proper or I would say it is higher as there are more than enoigh faculties available for any number of students and departments. The facultiea re approachable and their free times are avilable through the students portal. I had many favorite faculties like Anbuarasu, Karthikeyan, Senthil Kumar. These faculties have guided me, mentores me a lot and helped me with finding a online course in web devlopement, securing good grades and opened into new opportunities in my course. Also there were many faculties I didn't like but don't like to take names, they were very narrow minded, couldn't tke up questions, playing with students' assignemnts, marks etc. But again everything is an experience at the end of teh day being prepared to face all such situations is what is neede. In a semester, we've 2 internal wriiten exams and some assignemnt s and quizes as internals which is then finally converted to 60 marks. Final semester semester exam converted to 40 marls and together 100 marks. Also lab component exams and mini project review marks also added based on different weightages for lab and project components.

Night Life

5

Nightlife is worse. The students aren't allowed to go outside the hostels outside 9pm. This is way too early compared to other colleges. There aren't much hangout spots or any other late-night activities. The only way students can relax after classes are utilising the sports grounds. There are large and multiple coursts fro almost all teh sports. These courts are common for both boys and girls as well as separate one's are also available. There 3 4 types of gyms and are available in AC and non-AC as well. There are food courts like nescafe, namma chai, Dominos etc inside the campus.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for campus placements from the final year, usually from the 5th or 6th semester depending on the course. Many reputed companies visit the campus for recruitment. If I receive a campus placement, I plan to start my career and gain industry experience. If I do not get placed through campus, I will continue improving my skills, earn professional certifications, and apply for jobs through off-campus opportunities until I secure a good position.
