The University of Edinburgh reports strong graduate outcomes, with 91% of MBA graduates and 92% of Business School undergraduates from the combined classes of 2023 and 2024 finding jobs within six months. Edinburgh does not follow the Indian-style campus placement system; instead, it tracks graduate outcomes through Business School surveys and the UK-wide Graduate Outcomes survey, which collects employment and salary data 15 months after graduation.

  • MBA graduates employed within six months (2023 and 2024 classes): 91%
  • MSc Business Analytics graduates employed within six months (2023 and 2024 classes): 91%
  • Computer Science graduates in work or further study after 15 months (2023–24): 100%, with 95% in highly skilled work
  • Computer Science median salary after 15 months (2023–24): GBP 40,000 (INR 50.81 Lakhs), the highest Edinburgh subject figure in the UK government’s Discover Uni data
  • Economics median salary five years after graduation (2016–18): GBP 55,500 (INR 70.50 Lakhs)

These figures come from different surveys and graduate cohorts, so the timeframes should be considered when comparing outcomes.

Currency Note: All INR figures use the xe.com mid-market rate of GBP 1 = INR 127.03 on 23 October 2026.

University of Edinburgh Placements and Employment Rate 2024

The Business School reports 88% to 92% of its graduates in jobs within six months, depending on the programme, for the classes of 2023 and 2024 combined. The university as a whole publishes no single current employment rate, so the table below uses each programme's own six-month survey.

Programme (classes of 2023 and 2024 combined) Jobs achieved within six months of graduation
Business School undergraduate degrees 92%
MBA (full-time) 91%
MSc Business Analytics 91%
MSc Finance and Investment 89%
MSc Management 88%
MSc Marketing 85%
MSc Accounting and Financial Management 77%
  • The six-month window is shorter than the national 15-month survey, so these rates are the stricter test.
  • Each figure counts respondents to the school's own survey, and the school does not publish the response rate.
  • Accounting and Financial Management sits 15 points below Business Analytics, which matters if you are choosing between the two for a UK job.

Outside the Business School, the government's Graduate Outcomes survey gives the 15-month picture by subject. Computer Science reported 100% of the 2023-24 cohort in work or further study, from 15 respondents, and Economics reported 86% from 70 respondents.

Source: University of Edinburgh Business School career outcomes pages for the MBA, MSc and undergraduate programmes, classes of 2023 and 2024.

Note: Graduate Outcomes counts graduates in work or further study 15 months after the course, with response rates of 50% to 65% for Edinburgh subjects. The Business School's 91% and the survey's 100% measure different windows and different groups, so compare each figure only with its own kind.

University of Edinburgh Average Salary After Graduation

Median salaries 15 months after an Edinburgh undergraduate degree run from GBP 31,000 (INR 39.38 Lakhs) in Physics to GBP 40,000 (INR 50.81 Lakhs) in Computing. Both figures are for graduates of 2022-24. Five years after graduation the government's LEO earnings data puts Computing and Economics graduates of 2016-18 at GBP 55,500 (INR 70.50 Lakhs).

Subject (full-time undergraduate courses) Median salary 15 months after (GBP) 15 months after (INR) Median salary 5 years after (GBP) 5 years after (INR)
Computing (2022-24 graduates; 2016-18 for 5 years) GBP 40,000 INR 50.81 Lakhs GBP 55,500 INR 70.50 Lakhs
Electrical and electronic engineering (2022-24; 2016-18) GBP 39,000 INR 49.54 Lakhs GBP 44,000 INR 55.89 Lakhs
Economics (2023-24; 2016-18) GBP 36,000 INR 45.73 Lakhs GBP 55,500 INR 70.50 Lakhs
Artificial intelligence (2022-24; 2016-18) GBP 35,000 INR 44.46 Lakhs GBP 47,000 INR 59.70 Lakhs
Mathematical sciences (2023-24; 2016-18) GBP 35,000 INR 44.46 Lakhs GBP 40,500 INR 51.45 Lakhs
Mechanical engineering (2022-24; 2016-18) GBP 34,000 INR 43.19 Lakhs GBP 38,000 INR 48.27 Lakhs
Physics (2022-24; 2016-18) GBP 31,000 INR 39.38 Lakhs GBP 37,500 INR 47.64 Lakhs
  • Computing leads at both points, which supports the MSc Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence routes most Indian applicants choose.
  • Economics starts below Computing but matches it at five years, so a finance-bound applicant loses nothing over time.
  • Every figure is a median, so half of the respondents earned more and half earned less.

Source: Discover Uni course pages for the University of Edinburgh, read on 23 October 2026. Graduate Outcomes survey, 2022-24 and 2023-24 graduates; Longitudinal Education Outcomes dataset, 2016-18 graduates.

Note: The 15-month medians come from small samples, 10 to 40 respondents per subject, at response rates of 50% to 80%. The five-year LEO figures use tax records for 25 to 145 people per subject and are not adjusted for inflation. Business studies, Finance and Law had too few 15-month responses to publish a salary.

Key Insight: The Computing median of GBP 40,000 (INR 50.81 Lakhs) sits just under the Skilled Worker threshold of GBP 41,700 (INR 52.97 Lakhs). That gap is why the Graduate visa window matters more than the starting salary for anyone planning to stay.

University of Edinburgh Placements by Course and Salary

Computer Science leads the undergraduate subjects with 100% of 2023-24 graduates in work or study and 95% of those employed in highly skilled roles. The table pairs each subject's 15-month employment figure with its highly skilled share, the measure UK employers use for graduate-level jobs.

Subject (Graduate Outcomes, 15 months after) In work or further study In highly skilled work (of those employed) Cohort and sample
Computer Science (BSc) 100% 95% 2023-24 graduates, 15 students, 55% response
Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science (BSc) 90% 70% 2023-24 graduates, 10 students, 65% response
Economics (all courses) 86% 80% 2023-24 graduates, 70 students, 50% response
Physics (all courses) 80% 85% 2022-24 graduates, 45 students, 55% response
Electronics and Electrical Engineering (all courses) 75% 95% 2023-24 graduates, 10 students, 95% response
Statistics (all courses) 75% 80% 2022-24 graduates, 15 students, 60% response
Mechanical Engineering (MEng) 70% 95% 2023-24 graduates, 15 students, 55% response
  • Engineering subjects show lower work-or-study rates but 95% highly skilled work, so the graduates who are employed hold graduate-level jobs.
  • Samples of 10 to 15 students mean one graduate moves the rate by 7 to 10 points, so read the figures as a range.
  • Law has no 15-month figure for Edinburgh, so an LLB applicant has only the five-year median of GBP 41,500 (INR 52.72 Lakhs).

Tip for Indian Students: Discover Uni covers undergraduate courses only. For a business masters, use the Business School's six-month figures above. For an MSc in Computing or Engineering, treat the undergraduate medians as the floor.

University of Edinburgh MBA Placements and Salary 2024

The Edinburgh MBA reports 91% of graduates in jobs within six months, for the classes of 2023 and 2024 combined. The school publishes no post-MBA salary, so the figures below cover sectors, employers and locations only.

Sector (MBA classes of 2023 and 2024) Share of employed graduates
IT 29%
Finance 23%
Government agencies 9%
Manufacturing 6%
Healthcare 5%
Media 5%
Retail and consumer goods 4%
Transport 4%
Management consulting 3%
Other sectors combined 12%

IT and Finance absorb just over half of the class, and consulting takes only 3%, which is low for an MBA. The school names Infosys, Morgan Stanley, Lloyds Banking Group, PepsiCo, TikTok, Alibaba and Nissan among recent employers, and reports graduates working in 21 countries including India and the United Kingdom.

Key Insight: With 29% of MBA graduates in IT roles and Infosys among the named employers, the Edinburgh MBA suits an Indian IT professional moving into product or strategy work. An applicant targeting consulting should weigh the 3% consulting share before enrolling.

Source: University of Edinburgh Business School career outcomes pages by programme, classes of 2023 and 2024 combined.

Tip for Indian Students: If you want a data role, Business Analytics with its 27% IT share and Data Engineer titles is the business masters that leads there. Management and Marketing send most graduates into finance, retail and consumer goods instead.

Where University of Edinburgh Graduates Work: UK and Abroad

Business School undergraduates work in 33 countries and MBA graduates in 21 countries, with India and the United Kingdom on every programme's list for the classes of 2023 and 2024. The school publishes the country lists but not the share of graduates who stayed in the UK.

Programme (classes of 2023 and 2024) Countries where graduates work India listed
Business School undergraduate 33 Yes
MBA 21 Yes
MSc Management 21 Yes
MSc Finance and Investment 18 Yes
MSc Marketing 16 Listed in the school's country list
MSc Business Analytics 13 Yes
MSc Accounting and Financial Management 11 Listed in the school's country list
  • A spread across 13 to 33 countries means a large share of each class left the UK, so the degree is portable rather than UK-locked.
  • UK retention depends on the Graduate visa and a sponsored job, both covered in the visa section below.

University of Edinburgh Career Services for International Students

The Careers Service runs degree-by-degree outcome guidance, employer events and one-to-one advice, and the School of Informatics adds its own careers support for computing students. These are services, not outcomes, so no job rate attaches to them.

  • Subject pages map each degree to the jobs its graduates took and link to the Discover Uni data used above.
  • The university reports more than 140 start-ups launched with its help in five years, a route open to international graduates on the Graduate visa.
  • Student visa holders on degree courses may work up to 20 hours a week in term and full time in vacations, which the service helps students use for internships.

Post-Study Work After University of Edinburgh for Indian Students

The Graduate visa lets an Edinburgh masters or bachelors graduate stay and work in most jobs for two years if the application is made on or before 31 December 2026. Applications on or after 1 January 2027 get 18 months, and a PhD graduate gets three years. No employer sponsorship is needed.

  • The Graduate visa costs GBP 937 (INR 1.19 Lakhs) plus the Immigration Health Surcharge of GBP 1,035 (INR 1.31 Lakhs) a year.
  • A Skilled Worker visa needs a sponsored job paying at least GBP 41,700 (INR 52.97 Lakhs) a year or the going rate for the role.
  • Some roles qualify at a lower floor of GBP 33,400 (INR 42.43 Lakhs) a year.
  • During the course, degree-level students may work up to 20 hours a week in term time and full time in vacations.

An Edinburgh Computing graduate on the GBP 40,000 (INR 50.81 Lakhs) median therefore needs a pay rise or a going-rate role to switch to sponsorship. The Graduate visa window is the time to get there.

However, the university does not publish master’s-specific salary data, the subject samples are small, and the figures cover graduates of all nationalities.

  • Local students mostly proceeded to do a PhD and higher education, while some procured a job. I do not know any international student who actually secured a sponsored job through my contact. Those who did either had previous experience in the UK or were citizens or from countries with trade relations and did not need a visa. But this is exclusively for the course I studied.
  • Other university students have amazing placements with a salary above 30000 GBP /annum. I know individuals who did get higher placement almost immediately after the degree.

  • I was given University accomodation Called Ascham Court, which was a nice, comfortable accomodation near the main campus along the meadows. It had better privacy that flat like accomodations.
  • Total yearly rent was 9350 for a year of stay. I do know there are plenty of private accommodations around the city as well.

  • In phd, we usually have to find career options on our own. But the job market in the UK is very competitive and uncertain. It takes around 6 months to 1 year to find a full-time job.

  • Accommodation was good- close to the uni but expensive. My rental was £650 per month in 2019. Things might have changed/updated now.

  • There are no placements. People job hunt. People get jobs at Edinburgh City Council, Start-ups and other organisations as well. Some choose to return to India. The average salary range is of 30k - 40k pounds annually. I have not graduated yet, so cannot provide further information.
  • There are several competitive graduate programs available where one needs to start applying from right after the course commencement as getting hired is a prolonged process. It is a competitive job market so one needs to be patient and regular with job applications.

  • I was looking for University accommodations, so I looked up on the university website. My monthly rent is around 745 pounds, and it's an en-suite accommodation.
  • The challenge one might face is that it is difficult to find affordable accommodation here. If you are looking for accommodation at a lower rent, then you might have to go for a sharing accommodation. Or you can come here and look for flats to share but that is a risky move if you have no connections here.
  • My accommodation is around 15 mins walking distance from the university. The city is pretty much walkable so that is of no issue. There are many Indian students in the University accommodation.

  • I would say about 50% got a full-time offer within 6 months in my course. In other courses it was lower. But in the batch after ours, the stats were better so it could be because of the job market.
  • The job application process is quite difficult. Prepare a CV and apply to jobs through job portals like LinkedIn and Indeed. There are new graduate roles (graduate schemes) that have stricter deadlines and are open twice a year so it's important to keep looking at them so as to not miss out on the deadline.
  • There are no placements as such in the university and students have to take efforts on their own for searching for a job.
  • For computer science, major banks like Barclays, JP Morgan, etc. are in Glasgow, which do hire candidates from the University of Edinburgh and the University of Glasgow. Other companies that hire software engineers and data scientists include Amazon, Google, Meta, Wise, Skyscanner, Revolut, Spotify, Microsoft, Adobe, Apple, etc.

  • It was a university accommodation. When you get an offer of acceptance, you get an option to apply for accommodation on the university website.
  • The accommodation I got was really nice and very modern. The amenities were great. However, the only catch was that it was a little bit far from the university compared to other accommodations.
  • I would recommend students to apply early for accommodation, as the best ones get filled early. Also, I stayed in a twin room to save costs but this is a personal decision.
  • My accommodation was 25 minutes by bus from the college. Indian student population was found in every accommodation.

  • The percentage varies from course to course. I don't have access to the information other than the one already available online. The same goes for the salary range. Students find jobs using campus portals and careers services' help, LinkedIn, reaching out to people, online platforms like Indeed, etc. We don't receive information about other students. There are no campus placements so companies don't hire directly from the campus.

  • I found my accommodation using the University website. It was a University accommodation. The monthly rent was around 670 GBP for an en-suite room with a shared kitchen (shared among 11 people). Since I applied timely, I didn't find the process of finding accommodation challenging. However, if applied later, it can get pretty tough as flats in good locations go out pretty fast. So, my recommendation is to apply as timely as one can. Student accommodations also provide University-led teams that manage the property, which might help make the process easier. My accommodation was a 7-minute walk from my school's building. There is no specific region where most Indians stay and they are scattered across the city.

The careers service at the university helps a lot of students get employment even if you passed out for years. They are dedicated and you can book an appointment whenever needed.

I chose Edinburgh because I have been here before and l love the city. Plus, the university has great resources and a fascinating history. The faculty is renowned and the research put is also great.
