University of Nottingham Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Indian students need academic thresholds matched to the Nottingham grade tier, plus verified English proficiency and credential evidence.

Postgraduate Requirements for Indian Applicants

  • Academic: Bachelor’s degree with 60% or CGPA 6.0/10 from a Tier 1 Indian university; Tier 2 institutions need 75% and Tier 3 institutions need 80% and above.
  • English: IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no band below 6.0 for standard masters; TOEFL iBT 79 or PTE Academic 62. High-demand courses ask for IELTS 7.0.
  • English waiver: Bachelor’s graduates from all IITs, Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Anna, Manipal, Christ (from 2008) and NLSIU Bangalore are exempt from English tests.
  • Credential verification: WES or scanned mark sheets and provisional certificate accepted; original degree required before enrolment.

Undergraduate Requirements for Indian Applicants

  • Academic: Class 12 CBSE or ISC with 84% to 93% across the four highest subjects; STEM asks for 87% and Medicine asks for 93%.
  • English: IELTS 6.0 to 7.0 depending on course; CBSE or ISC Class 12 English at 70% or above waives IELTS 6.0 requirement.
  • Course-specific: Medicine requires UCAT; Architecture requires a portfolio; Music requires an audition recording.

Key insight: The Class 12 English waiver only replaces an IELTS 6.0 requirement. If the target UG course asks for IELTS 6.5 or 7.0, an Indian applicant with 70% Class 12 English still has to submit a full IELTS or TOEFL score.

University of Nottingham Acceptance Rate 2027

The university does not publish an official acceptance rate. Third-party estimates put the overall figure at 14.3% (estimated) and the international rate at 11% (estimated). These are aggregated from UCAS end-of-cycle data and reported offer rates rather than a university statistic.

Programme-level selectivity varies sharply. Business, Data Science, MBA and Medicine sit at the tightest end, while Humanities and Education admit at 30% and above. Indian applicants targeting flagship MSc and MBA courses should treat the 11% international figure as the realistic benchmark.

Reality check: The 11% number reflects offers made to international applicants, not final enrolment. An Indian applicant with strong grades, waived English and an April submission typically converts at a much higher rate than the aggregate suggests.

University of Nottingham Campus, Facilities and Student Life

Nottingham runs a 300-acre parkland main campus called University Park, three miles from the city centre, plus Jubilee Campus for business and computer science.

  • Location and transport: Free hopper bus links the campuses; a return city-centre bus costs GBP 2.50 and the tram is GBP 3.00.
  • Accommodation: University halls guaranteed for all first-year international students who apply by 31 July; rent GBP 99 to 312 per week including bills.
  • Facilities: David Ross Sports Village, Hallward and George Green libraries, the Advanced Manufacturing Building and free Microsoft 365 for all students.
  • Indian community: Active Nottingham India Society, Diwali and Holi celebrations on campus, on-site Hindu Chaplaincy and 20+ South Asian food outlets in Lenton.
  • Safety: Campus is patrolled by a 24-hour Security team, and the university runs a free SafeZone app for late-night walks.

What Indian students say: Halls are worth the premium for the first year for the settling-in effect. The Jubilee Campus is the better base for MSc Data Science and MSc Computer Science because the labs and lectures are all in one building.

Key insight: The QS top-100 place matters for Indian employer recognition and for education loan eligibility with SBI, HDFC Credila and Avanse, all of which use QS 100 as a preferred university cut-off.

University of Nottingham Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Nottingham reports strong employment outcomes across faculties, with the university’s Careers and Employability Service supporting Indian graduates through the two-year Graduate Route visa window.

  • Graduate outcomes: The university reports a positive 15-month outcome rate above 90% across most faculties (Graduate Outcomes survey 2023).
  • Median starting salary (UK-based roles): GBP 27,500 to 33,000 (INR 35.9 lakh to 43.1 lakh) per year for masters graduates (market median).
  • Post-MBA salary: Nottingham Business School MBA graduates report weighted median salaries in the FT Masters in Management and MBA rankings; the Financial Times Masters in Finance 2025 places Nottingham at #63 globally.
  • Recruiter sectors: Investment banking, management consulting, technology, engineering and public health hire from Nottingham; specific recruiter lists are not disclosed publicly.
  • Career support: Global Employability Service runs India-focused webinars, CV clinics and India employer fairs each spring; the Graduate Route visa lets Indian graduates work for two years without a sponsor.

Insider note: Indian MBA and MSc Finance graduates returning to India typically land salaries in the INR 18 to 30 lakh range within the first year, with placements concentrated in Bangalore and Gurugram-based analytics, consulting and banking roles.

University of Nottingham vs Peer Universities

Nottingham sits mid-tier among Russell Group members and offers a cheaper total investment than the top-25 UK peers. The table sets it against four UK Russell Group peers and one Indian benchmark on the QS 2027 board.

UniversityQS Rank 2027LocationDistinctive Edge for Indian Applicants
University of Nottingham#97Nottingham, UKDeveloping Solutions full-tuition scholarship reserved for India
University of Birmingham#68Birmingham, UKLarger Indian cohort and India Institute research centre
University of Leeds#77Leeds, UKStronger positioning for design, media and business masters
University of Sheffield#82Sheffield, UKCheaper cost-of-living tier for Indian PG students
University of Southampton#111Southampton, UKHigher rated for electronics, ocean sciences and computer science
IIT Bombay#134Mumbai, IndiaLower total cost and Indian job market recognition

[Source: QS World University Rankings 2027]

Nottingham’s differentiator against Birmingham and Leeds is the India-reserved Developing Solutions Scholarship. Against Southampton and Sheffield, it wins on QS position and on subject rank in Pharmacy, Law and Engineering.

Conclusion

Nottingham University suits Indian applicants targeting a QS top-100 UK degree at a total investment of INR 66 lakh per year against a median return of INR 40 lakh in the first year. The Developing Solutions Scholarship, the two-year Graduate Route visa and the strong Pharmacy, Law and Engineering subject ranks make it a strong pick for masters students with 60% and above.

It is not the right fit for applicants seeking a London postcode or a top-30 world rank, or Indian UG students under Class 12 87% for STEM courses. Realistic alternatives at similar cost include University of Birmingham for a stronger QS rank and University of Sheffield for a cheaper cost-of-living base.

University of Nottingham FAQs

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time during their studies at University of Nottingham?

Ans. Yes. Indian students on the UK Student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during vacations. The university’s Unitemps agency lists on-campus jobs paying GBP 12 to 15 per hour, including library assistant, ambassador and lab demonstrator roles. Off-campus roles in retail and hospitality in Nottingham city centre pay around the National Minimum Wage.

Ques. Does Nottingham University waive IELTS for Indian applicants with English-medium instruction?

Ans. Partial waiver only. Undergraduate applicants with 70% and above in Class 12 English (CBSE or ISC only) are exempt from the IELTS 6.0 requirement. Postgraduate applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree from IITs, Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Anna, Manipal, Christ (from 2008) or NLSIU Bangalore are fully exempt. Applicants from other Indian universities must submit IELTS, TOEFL iBT or PTE Academic.

Ques. Is work experience mandatory for the University of Nottingham MBA programme?

Ans. Yes. The Nottingham MBA at Nottingham University Business School expects at least three years of post-graduation full-time work experience, with five years preferred. Applicants without work experience are directed to the MSc Business and Management or MSc Management routes, which do not carry a work-experience requirement and cost the same GBP 33,800 in 2026/27.

Ques. What is the application fee for University of Nottingham postgraduate courses?

Ans. Most taught postgraduate courses charge no application fee for Indian applicants. The MBA and a small number of business masters carry a GBP 50 application fee (INR 6,525) paid via the online portal. UCAS undergraduate applications carry a UCAS fee of GBP 28.50 (INR 3,720) for a single choice or GBP 28.50 for up to five choices in the 2027 cycle.

Ques. Which Indian education loan providers recognise University of Nottingham for pre-approved loans?

Ans. Nottingham sits inside the QS top-100 preferred university lists of SBI (Global Ed-Vantage), HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo, Prodigy Finance and MPOWER Financing. SBI Global Ed-Vantage offers up to INR 1.5 crore at repo-linked rates without collateral for select courses. Prodigy and MPOWER offer no-cosigner, no-collateral loans in USD or GBP at 12 to 15% per year.

Ques. Can Indian dependents accompany a Nottingham University postgraduate student to the UK?

Ans. No, for most Indian PG students. UK Student visa rules from January 2024 restrict dependent visas to PhD, research masters and government-sponsored courses. Indian MBA and taught masters students at Nottingham cannot bring spouse or child dependents on the Student route. PhD candidates and MRes students can bring dependents, subject to the GBP 845 per month per dependent maintenance rule.

Ques. How does the WES credential evaluation work for Nottingham University postgraduate applications?

Ans. Nottingham accepts self-uploaded scanned transcripts and provisional degree certificates for initial assessment. A conditional offer is issued on scanned documents, but the university may ask for a WES ICAP evaluation for degrees from Tier 2 and Tier 3 Indian universities. WES processing runs four to six weeks after all documents reach WES, so Indian applicants should start the WES request at least ten weeks before their target reply deadline.

Ques. What is the refund policy for Indian students who withdraw from Nottingham University?

Ans. The GBP 4,500 tuition deposit is refundable in full for visa refusal cases and is deducted from tuition on enrolment. Withdrawal within 14 days of enrolment triggers a full tuition refund; withdrawal in term 1 attracts a 25% tuition charge; withdrawal in term 2 attracts 50%; and withdrawal in term 3 forfeits full annual tuition. Deposit refund requests should be submitted within 60 days of the visa refusal decision.

  • Our college has 5 campuses as far as i know - Jubilee(mine), University Park (main), Sutton Bonnington, Kings Meadow and Castle Meadow.
  • Everything is available – grocery store, library, cafes, study areas, quiet study areas, parks, halls, general practitioner, etc.
  • There are constant events going on, like when we came there was the freshers' fair that happens every year when new entrants join, and then after summer vacations we had the Re-freshers fair and then constant fairs related to companies and so many clubs
  • 350+ clubs related to tech, culture, religion, etc.

Fees

  • Fees were £28,600 for the whole year; accommodation cost around £9-10k for the year.
  • Both were yearly charges and were paid in three instalments with ample amount of time in between each instalment.
  • Other monthly expenses, including food, travelling around the city, etc., would cost a maximum of £250 per month. So overall maybe another 10-12000£ for a year

  • The University of Nottingham has six campuses: four in Nottinghamshire (University Park, Jubilee, Sutton Bonington, and King's Meadow) and two overseas campuses in China (Ningbo) and Malaysia (Semenyih).
  • The facilities are available on our campus, such as the library and sports facilities.
  • The major campus festival, club, or any popular event that takes place at our college is the Winter Ball.
  • Some detailed information about the extracurricular activities, such as sports, cultural events, student organisations, etc would be that the student union stands out as an exceptionally good one. The sports teams are quite competitive too. They have cultural events like international students fashion shows.

Fees

  • Fee is 18 lakhs in Indian rupees
  • Stay is 6 lakhs in Indian rupees
  • Food is 2.5 lakhs in Indian rupees
  • Food and other expenses I meant 2.5 lakhs
  • Airfare not included
  • Food expenses depend on how you spend, where you buy your groceries, etc. Stores like Lidl and Poundland are quite cheap.
  • Other expenses also depend on your lifestyle and preferences. This is a very nominal quotation.

Fees

  • Okay, so my course at Nottingham was £24,000, but thankfully, they didn’t ask for it all at once. I could pay in two parts every year, which made life so much easier. No way I could’ve paid everything upfront, so this was a lifesaver.
  • For my stay, I picked an en-suite room in student housing. Super nice, but kinda expensive—£500 a month. The good part? I could pay monthly or every three months, so at least I had options.
  • Transport? No stress at all. The uni had free buses between campuses, so I didn’t have to spend a single penny on getting around. Super handy.
  • Groceries were like £25 a week. Just the usual—food, toiletries, and sometimes a little extra snack if I was feeling fancy. I didn’t really have any crazy extra expenses ‘cause I was mostly just studying and chilling.
  • Paying for stuff was easy too. I mostly paid online through my student account. But if that didn’t work, I’d just go to student services and pay in cash. They were always super chill and helped with any issues.
  • Overall, the whole payment system was pretty smooth. No weird surprises, no stress. Just made life easier so I could focus on my studies and not freak out about money.

  • There were in total 3 campuses. The main campus was University park campus which have all the major facilities like a huge lake in which you can enjoy boating with your friends. It have all the sports facilities with a huge Gym.
  • The other campus is the Jubilee Campus in which I studied. There's a huge library and many departments including the Nottingham University Business School known as NUBS.
  • The other campus is Sutton Bonington Campus which was in the countryside mainly for vets and biosciences. The events vary from time to time and there's no such major big event from University of Nottingham.

Fees

  • 25,000 GBP was my college fees and 10,000 GBP are the yearly expense which should be considered. Monthly expenses may vary around 800 to 1000 GBP including rent, food and transportation.
  • The fees is collected in 3 parts during the academic year and breakdown is 34% in the first instalment and 33% in the rest. I paid my rent in four parts which vary and depends on the accommodation you get.

  • Our college has 3 campuses. All of the above mentioned facilities are there in the university.
  • They host a lot of clubs as well for example- travelsoc, artsoc, for legos, for gymnastics, for swimming, for basket ball etc. Any kinds of interest a person has, a person can explore.
  • They also take you on some really amazing tours as well around the country as well as outside.
  • Lewis Capaldi had come to our college for the testing of our new machine developed for people with Tourette’s.

Fees

  • My fees was broken down to installments. 3 installments. The living costs were around 500-600 pounds per month for me.
  • That included all my bills. For food- I used to go to Indian stores where I could get all the necessary stuff I needed.
  • Average it used to be around 25 pounds per week. Transportation- you can buy a year round bus pass- helps you save cost on transportation.

  • There are 2 campuses and both are next to each other but they are very big and to travel between each campus we had free bus services for students.
  • We had 24*7 access to the library, we had a sports village that had 83 different types of sports facilities. Medical is free in the UK.
  • The best is Goose Fair and some famous clubs are Rock City and Ocean. Every month there would come an event and can't compare as all of them were good.
  • If you stay in student accommodations there will be an event for you every month. I used to stay in an off-campus house so don't have much idea.

Fees

  • The total tuition fee was 27500£, I didn't have any hostel fee at that time because I was living in a private house.
  • The fee was charged in three instalments, 1st instalment was in September, 2nd was in January, and 3rd in May.
  • Monthly expense for me was 800-900£
  • Of which 500£ was my rent, 200£ for food and groceries, and the rest for other stuff like transportation, clubbing, and miscellaneous.

  • We have three campuses like I have mentioned before, with Jubilee campus and University Park campus (main campus) being around 15 minutes walking distance away from each other, while Sutton campus is like 30-40 minutes bus ride from the main campus.
  • We have all facilities in the main campus with large sport centre in both the Jubilee and University Park campus.
  • We also have a boot( a medicine shop) along with the local GP surgery office within the main campus itself. We have libraries on each campus with George Green library in the University Park campus being the largest.
  • We also have PGT hub area that are open 24/7 fitted with free WiFi for students to sit and work. We also have various restaurants, pubs and cafés around the campus providing food at decent costs.
  • We have various clubs whether it be sports related or just simple ones ( there is even an Indian Society). Each society hosts its own events .

Fees

  • So in my case it was 24,000 GBP for the 1 year course. You have various options for accommodation, I took up a university accommodation which was 131 pounds per week. Both Uni fees and accommodation fees could be paid in terms.
  • I paid the full University fees upfront while one accommodation fees term wise. My accommodation was like a 20 minute walk from my department, so transportation cost was nothing.
  • The Uni has three campus- the University park campus (main one), Jubilee campus and the Sutton-Bonnington campus. The University had free buses running between them called hopper buses, so you could always use those.
  • Living expenses also varies. My accommodation was all expenses paid (except laundry which was 4 pounds for washing and drying), but food and all other expenses may come up to be around 350-500 pounds a month.
