Salford stands out among North West peers for its MediaCityUK campus co-located with BBC and ITV, giving media, computing and business students direct industry exposure not available at Bolton, UCLan or Liverpool John Moores.
The University of Salford suits Indian applicants seeking a mid-tier UK degree with applied learning, industry-linked campuses and a total investment of INR 40 lakh set against a median PG salary near INR 36 lakh, delivering visa-eligible Graduate Route work rights and moderate admissions selectivity.
Salford is not the right pick for research-heavy PhD tracks or applicants targeting Russell Group prestige; those students should look at Manchester Metropolitan for a stronger city presence or the University of Manchester for research depth and global rank.
University of Salford FAQs
Ques. Does the University of Salford waive IELTS for Indian applicants?
Ans. Yes, Salford waives IELTS for Indian students who scored above 70% in Class 12 English from CBSE, ISC or recognised state boards, provided the entire schooling was English-medium. Applicants must submit a medium-of-instruction certificate from their school. The waiver applies to most taught programmes but not to nursing, midwifery or programmes governed by professional statutory regulatory bodies which require IELTS UKVI.
Ques. How much part-time work can Salford University students do?
Ans. Indian students at Salford on a Student visa may work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during official vacation periods. Typical part-time roles in Manchester pay GBP 11 to GBP 13 per hour in retail, hospitality and campus jobs. Salford’s Careers service maintains a JobShop portal listing verified part-time roles, and the university runs paid student ambassador schemes for international applicants.
Ques. What English-taught masters are available at Salford University?
Ans. All taught masters programmes at the University of Salford are delivered in English, spanning over 180 postgraduate options across business, computing, engineering, health and media. Popular choices include MSc Data Science, MSc Artificial Intelligence, MBA, MSc Digital Marketing, MSc Robotics and MSc Public Health. Salford does not offer joint or dual degrees with Indian universities but runs pathway partnerships with select feeder colleges.
Ques. Can Indian students apply to Salford without GRE or GMAT?
Ans. Yes, the University of Salford does not require GRE for MSc programmes or GMAT for the MBA. This makes Salford more accessible than US universities that require standardised tests, though a strong statement of purpose and academic transcripts remain essential.
Ques. What is the application fee at the University of Salford?
Ans. The University of Salford charges no application fee for direct international applications submitted through its online portal. Applicants applying through UCAS for undergraduate programmes pay the standard UCAS fee of GBP 28.50 for a single choice or GBP 28.50 to GBP 30 for multiple choices. Ques. Which Indian banks fund loans for Salford University?

Salford’s CAS letter and unconditional offer are accepted as loan disbursement documents.
Ques. What financial proof do Indian applicants need for Salford?
Ans. UK Student visa rules require Indian applicants to Salford to show 28 days of maintained funds covering the first year’s tuition balance plus GBP 1,023 per month for up to 9 months of living costs, totalling roughly GBP 9,207 for maintenance. Funds must be held in the applicant’s or parent’s name, with a sponsor letter if applicable. Fixed deposits, education loan sanction letters and bank statements are all accepted proof.
Ques. Does Salford University offer conditional offers to Indian students?
Ans. Yes, Salford routinely issues conditional offers to Indian students awaiting final Class 12 results, pending English test scores or awaiting bachelor’s final semester marks. Conditions typically require a minimum overall percentage, IELTS 6.0 and submission of final transcripts before enrolment. Once conditions are met, the university converts the offer to unconditional and issues the CAS letter needed for the UK Student visa application.

Overview
The admission process was relatively straightforward as I had already completed my undergrad at the same University and applied through the University. I chose Salford because it's in Manchester, and for arts and media students the second campus is located at the heart of MediaCity UK, right next to the BBC. ITV Studios, the Lowry theatre, and the Imperial War Museum are also housed in the same area, with Manchester United's home stadium, Old Trafford, just across the Quays. I would recommend Manchester to arts and media students because of its rich history in the field. The University of Salford has an excellent sprawling main campus as well, which has introduced two new states of the art buildings. Like for any University, there are certain courses and certain departments that might not be up to the required standards. So research the right course before applying. Personally, I enjoyed my time there, and I would recommend it, especially for arts and media students.
Campus Life
There are plenty of societies and clubs on the campus. The sports centre is also quite good. There is also a student bar which is also quite good, especially during football match days.
