University of Salford admissions run through UCAS for undergraduate applications and the direct apply.salford.ac.uk portal for postgraduate courses, with a September primary intake and a smaller January intake. Indian applicants need Class XII at 70 percent for CBSE and ISC (75 percent for most other state boards) for undergraduate entry, and a three or four-year Bachelor’s at 55 percent or 5.8 CGPA for master’s programmes.

  • Next live deadline: UCAS 2027 applications opened 1 September 2026 for the September 2027 primary intake; January 2027 remains open with CAS documents due 30 November 2026.
  • Base tuition and fees: International taught tuition starts at GBP 14,400 (INR 18.60 Lakhs) per year; UCAS undergraduate application fee is GBP 34.50 (INR 4,455) and postgraduate applications carry no application fee.
  • Eligibility floor: UG needs Class XII 70 percent (CBSE/ISC), PG needs a Bachelor’s at 55 percent; English floor is IELTS 6.0 for taught courses and 6.5 for research.
  • Acceptance rate: Estimated at 60 to 70 percent, based on Salford’s access-oriented admissions (the university admits most applicants who meet its stated academic and English requirements), as it does not publish an official institutional figure.

Popular Indian-student picks are the MSc Data Science, MSc Artificial Intelligence, MSc Cyber Security, and the AMBA-accredited Salford MBA, all delivered at the Peel Park campus in Greater Manchester. Student sentiment on Whatuni consistently places the University of Salford among the UK’s top 10 unis for international student experience.

Admission status: Open. UCAS 2027 cycle opened 1 September 2026 for the primary September 2027 intake, and the January 2027 secondary intake is open for 39 programmes with CAS documents due 30 November 2026. UG applicants pay a UCAS application fee of GBP 34.50 (INR 4,455) for up to five choices; PG applicants pay no application fee to Salford directly.

University of Salford Application Deadlines for Indian Students

Salford operates a September primary intake with the widest programme choice and a smaller January intake focused on business, engineering, and nursing. Application windows and CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies, the sponsor letter you need for your UK Student visa) dates are set per the Salford international deadlines page.

Currency note: All INR figures in this article use GBP 1 = INR 129.14, the live rate on 14 September 2026. Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

Salford’s primary intake for Indian students is September (80+ programmes across four schools) — most courses open here, and this is where the majority of Indian applicants enter.

Rolling admission: Salford PG applications operate on a first-come, first-served basis after offer conditions are met — apply 6 to 9 months before the intake to secure a place before the popular MSc programmes fill.

Planning note: The January 2027 intake covers 39 programmes at Salford (13 Business, 24 Science and Engineering, 2 Health), a much narrower list than September’s 80+. If your target course is arts or creative technology, wait for September 2027.

Salford Eligibility Criteria and IELTS Requirements

Salford publishes India-specific academic thresholds and accepts a Class XII English waiver in place of IELTS for CBSE, CISCE, and state board applicants. All figures below are drawn from the Salford English language requirements page and the university’s India country page.

  • UG general entry: Class XII at 70 percent for CBSE or ISC, 75 percent for most state boards, 60 percent for West Bengal board.
  • PG taught entry: Three or four-year Bachelor’s at 55 percent (5.8 CGPA), equivalent to a UK 2:2 honours.
  • PG research entry: Bachelor’s at 55 percent plus a Master’s or strong research proposal.
  • Work-experience alternative: Applicants below 55 percent may be considered with relevant professional experience via APL (Accreditation of Prior Learning — a route that credits work or non-degree study toward entry).

Salford IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Salford accepts Indian Class XII English marks in place of IELTS for most taught courses, provided the qualification was awarded within the last seven years of course start:

  • Class XII English at 75 percent (CBSE, CISCE, or state boards) satisfies the IELTS 6.5 requirement.
  • Class XII English at 70 percent satisfies the IELTS 6.0 requirement used across most PG-taught and UG courses.
  • Courses that require a higher IELTS floor (Public Health, Nursing, PGR Business School) may still ask for a formal test.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Salford page for your chosen program before applying.

University of Salford PG Programmes and English Scores

Salford’s taught master’s portfolio covers computing, engineering, business, health, and creative media. Base tuition for full-time PG-taught programmes runs from GBP 14,400 to GBP 21,540 (INR 18.60 Lakhs to INR 27.82 Lakhs) per year for international students — see the course-wise fees breakdown for the full 2026 to 2027 list.

Insider note: Salford’s PGT English floor is IELTS 6.0 across most programmes, which is a full band below Russell Group unis. If your IELTS sits at 6.0 with a 5.5 in writing, Salford will accept you where Manchester or Leeds will not.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Salford India page for your chosen program before applying.

Salford UG Programmes and Class XII Cutoffs

Undergraduate applications route through UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, the UK’s central UG application platform) using Salford’s institution code S03. Indian applicants who studied CBSE or ISC typically need Class XII 70 percent, which maps to roughly 104 to 112 UCAS tariff points depending on the programme.

ProgrammeDurationMinimum EligibilityEnglish Req. Min.
BSc (Hons) Business Management3 years (4 with placement)104 UCAS points; Class XII 70% (CBSE/ISC); Maths and English at Grade 4IELTS 6.0
BSc (Hons) Computer Science3 years (4 with placement)112 UCAS points including Maths or Computer Science studied through Class XIIIELTS 6.0
BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance3 years full-time104 UCAS points; Class XII 70% (CBSE/ISC)IELTS 6.0
BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering3 years (4 with placement)104 UCAS points with Mathematics or physical scienceIELTS 6.0

Salford Alternative Entry Scheme: Applicants who miss the standard UCAS tariff may still be considered via SAES, which weighs personal statements, references, and work experience alongside grades. This is an active pathway for Indian students whose Class XII sits at 60 to 68 percent.

University of Salford MBA Admission Requirements

Salford Business School offers an AMBA-accredited MBA delivered in two formats: a full-time on-campus route and the Online Global MBA. Both routes admit Indian students on rolling deadlines, with the September 2027 primary intake now open. Base tuition for the Online Global MBA is GBP 8,550 (INR 11.04 Lakhs) total for the 2-year programme.

Salford MBA Entry Requirements

  • Academic: Three or four-year Bachelor’s at 55 percent (5.8 CGPA), UK 2:2 honours equivalent, in any discipline.
  • Work experience (Online Global MBA): Minimum 3 years of professional experience is required and enforced at application review.
  • Work experience (full-time MBA): Preferred but not mandatory; applicants below 55 percent may substitute experience via the APL route.
  • English: IELTS 6.0 overall with no component below 5.5, or an accepted Class XII English waiver.
  • GMAT or GRE: Not required — Salford does not use standardised admissions tests for its MBA.

How the Salford MBA Interviews Work

Full-time MBA applicants are typically shortlisted based on academic and work-experience fit, with an online interview conducted by the Business School admissions team for borderline cases. The interview covers career motivation, leadership examples, and the pathway you plan to take (Strategic Leadership, Digital Business, Sports Business, or Executive Education Leadership).

Insider note: The Online Global MBA is not tuition-fee subsidised for scholarships and does not qualify Indian students for a UK Student visa — it is a distance qualification. If visa sponsorship is your goal, apply to the on-campus MBA route only.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Salford MBA page for your chosen program before applying.

Salford PhD Admission Route for Indian Applicants

Salford PhD admissions run on a rolling basis and are anchored to the strength of your research proposal, matched with a supervisor in one of the four schools. International PhD tuition for 2026 to 2027 runs from GBP 17,700 (INR 22.86 Lakhs) per year for Arts and Media to GBP 19,240 (INR 24.85 Lakhs) for Science and Engineering.

Salford PhD Entry Requirements

  • Academic: A UK Master’s degree at Merit or Distinction, or Indian equivalent (60 percent+ in a two-year Master’s).
  • English: IELTS 6.5 overall (6.0 per component) for most schools; IELTS 7.0 (6.0 per component) for Business School PhDs.
  • Research proposal: 1,500 to 2,000 words covering research question, methodology, and expected contribution — this drives the supervisor match.
  • Interview: Online supervisor interview once the proposal clears initial review.

Salford PhD Funding for Indian Students

Funded studentships appear ad-hoc against specific research projects; check the Salford programmes page for the current list and the funding for Indian students route. Self-funded PhD applicants pay the international tuition rate plus a UK Student visa maintenance requirement of GBP 1,483 (INR 1.92 Lakhs) per month for nine months.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Salford postgraduate research page for your chosen program before applying.

University of Salford Application Process Step by Step

Salford’s application route splits by level. UG applicants go through UCAS; PG-taught, PG research, and International Foundation Year applicants use the direct Salford portal at apply.salford.ac.uk.

  1. Choose your intake and route. UG applicants register on the UCAS platform (2027 cycle opened 1 September 2026, code S03) and pay the UCAS application fee of GBP 34.50 (INR 4,455) for up to five course choices. PG applicants go direct at apply.salford.ac.uk — no application fee.
  2. Upload documents. Attach transcripts, degree certificate, passport bio page, English test score, personal statement, and one to two references. Business School PG asks for a CV.
  3. Wait for the decision. Salford aims to decide within 10 working days of a complete PG application; UCAS decisions can take longer during peak.
  4. Accept the offer and pay the deposit. Once you receive an unconditional offer, pay the GBP 5,500 (INR 7.10 Lakhs) tuition deposit to secure your place.
  5. Request your CAS. Email salford-cas@salford.ac.uk with your offer reference; CAS is valid for six months.
  6. Apply for your UK Student visa and book your Salford induction (7 September 2027 for September intake, 11 January 2027 for January intake).

Before you apply: Salford accepts a Class XII English score in place of IELTS. If your CBSE or ICSE English mark is 70 percent+, upload that with your transcript and skip the IELTS booking cost of INR 17,000.

Salford Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline

Salford issues either a conditional offer (subject to meeting a specific IELTS, transcript, or reference condition) or an unconditional offer. The pathway from offer to CAS runs on published dates.

  • PG decision time: 10 working days after a complete application, though peak periods (May to July) extend this to 4 weeks.
  • UG decision time: Within 4 to 6 weeks of UCAS receipt; decisions arrive earlier for equal-consideration applications submitted by 14 January 2027.
  • Offer acceptance window: Firm your offer via UCAS Track (UG) or the applicant portal (PG) within 4 weeks of receipt.
  • Deferral policy: Salford permits a one-year deferral to the next equivalent intake, subject to programme availability.
  • Meet conditions deadline (Sept 2026 intake): Passed on 21 August 2026 — the equivalent Sept 2027 deadline is expected around 20 August 2027.

Reality check: A conditional offer only becomes a CAS when every condition is met and your deposit has cleared. Missing your IELTS resit or transcript upload by the meet-conditions date pushes you to the next intake.

Documents Required for University of Salford

Salford asks Indian applicants to submit a paperwork bundle at the application stage; missing items are the most common reason applications stall past the 10-day decision window.

  • Passport: Bio page scan, valid for at least six months past course start.
  • Academic transcripts: Certified copies of Class X, Class XII, and Bachelor’s / Master’s mark sheets and degree certificates.
  • Personal statement: 500 to 750 words on course motivation, career goals, and Salford fit.
  • Academic references: One reference for PG-taught, two (at least one academic) for PhD and Public Health.
  • CV: Required for Business School PG and MBA applicants, one to two pages.
  • English test score: IELTS, PTE, or TOEFL score report, or Class XII English mark sheet where the waiver applies.
  • Financial evidence: Bank statements showing tuition plus GBP 1,483 (INR 1.92 Lakhs) per month for 9 months of maintenance, held for 28 consecutive days.
  • Portfolio: Required for MArch Architecture and creative arts programmes only.
  • Certified translations: English translations of any Hindi or regional-language documents.

University of Salford Acceptance Rate

Salford does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Independent estimates based on applicant patterns and its access-oriented admissions model (Salford admits most applicants who meet its stated academic and English requirements) place it at 60 to 70 percent across all levels. This is a materially higher acceptance band than the Russell Group average of 15 to 25 percent and reflects Salford’s post-92 mission and its ranking band (QS World 901 to 950, Guardian UK 85).

What Drives a Salford Rejection

  • Bachelor’s below 55 percent without work experience or APL evidence.
  • IELTS below 6.0 or a component below 5.5 (5.0 for waived programmes).
  • Missing prerequisite subjects (Computer Science requires Maths / CS in Class XII).
  • Incomplete personal statement or transcripts uploaded past the CAS-documents deadline.

How to Improve Your Salford Odds

Apply in the first three months of the intake window, before the popular MSc programmes hit their CAS quota. Include a specific 100-word answer inside your personal statement on why Salford’s Peel Park or MediaCityUK campus fits your career plan — generic UK-focused statements weaken shortlisting for competitive courses like Data Science and MBA.

Insider note: Salford grants a 20 percent loyalty discount to Indian students progressing from Salford UG to PG at the same institution, and a further 3 percent prompt-payment discount if tuition is settled upfront. This is a decision-relevant cost lever, not a scholarship.

UK Student Visa Process for Salford Applicants

Indian students studying full-time at Salford apply for the UK Student visa (formerly Tier 4). The visa is granted by UK Visas and Immigration once your CAS is issued by Salford; you can apply up to six months before course start. The visa application fee is GBP 524 (INR 67,669) and the mandatory Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS, which covers NHS access for the visa duration) is GBP 776 (INR 1.00 Lakh) per year.

Financial proof requires bank statements showing unpaid tuition plus GBP 1,483 (INR 1.92 Lakhs) per month for up to nine months of maintenance, held for at least 28 consecutive days before you apply. Once you land in the UK, you must complete a Right to Study check at Salford registration and collect your Biometric Residence Permit within 10 days of arrival.

2026 update: The UK Home Office raised the maintenance-funds requirement to GBP 1,483 per month for London and non-London courses alike, replacing the earlier lower Salford-region figure. Indian applicants who prepared statements at the 2025 level must top up before submitting the visa application.

Tips and Application Checklist for University of Salford

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Salford across the last three admissions cycles. Combine the timing points with the documents list above rather than restating what to submit.

  • Start 8 to 10 months before intake: Book your IELTS (or gather your Class XII English proof) and request certified transcripts from your Indian board or university.
  • Apply within the first quarter of the window: September 2027 applications submitted before December 2026 clear the 10-day decision cycle before the January rush.
  • Use the Global Gold or Global Silver scholarship auto-consideration: Salford applies the GBP 3,500 (INR 4.52 Lakhs) UG per-year Global Gold or the GBP 3,000 (INR 3.87 Lakhs) PG one-off award automatically at offer stage — no separate scholarship form for most Indian applicants.
  • Pay the GBP 5,500 (INR 7.10 Lakhs) tuition deposit early: Deposits secure CAS priority; Salford releases CAS in the order deposits clear once offers are unconditional.
  • Book biometrics 4 to 6 weeks before travel: Delhi and Mumbai VFS slots fill fast in July and August ahead of the September intake.
  • Sit the pre-sessional English (10 or 5 week) if you miss IELTS by 0.5 bands — Salford’s pre-sessional grants direct progression without a resit.
  • Confirm you are within the 7-year waiver window before relying on Class XII English marks; older certificates trigger a full IELTS requirement.

Salford is a strong access-oriented UK option for Indian students, with a September primary intake, a rolling 10-day PG decision cycle, and an accepted Class XII English waiver that cuts IELTS costs. Start 8 to 10 months out, use the auto-applied Global Gold or Silver awards, and pay the GBP 5,500 deposit early to lock in CAS priority.

Overview

The admission process was relatively straightforward as I had already completed my undergrad at the same University and applied through the University. I chose Salford because it's in Manchester, and for arts and media students the second campus is located at the heart of MediaCity UK, right next to the BBC. ITV Studios, the Lowry theatre, and the Imperial War Museum are also housed in the same area, with Manchester United's home stadium, Old Trafford, just across the Quays. I would recommend Manchester to arts and media students because of its rich history in the field. The University of Salford has an excellent sprawling main campus as well, which has introduced two new states of the art buildings. Like for any University, there are certain courses and certain departments that might not be up to the required standards. So research the right course before applying. Personally, I enjoyed my time there, and I would recommend it, especially for arts and media students.

Overview

My course is Fraud and Risk Management which is a specialized subject. The University of Salford was the only university in England to combine the subjects of 'fraud' and 'risk management' as a master's. Other universities only offer an MSc in Risk Management.

Scholarship

Yes, I got the Salford Business School Post Graduate Excellence Award for £3500. The application process for the scholarship is separate and opens only on a particular date. So keep a close eye on the university website and apply for the scholarship before the deadline.
