University of Salford Scholarship Awards run from the £2,500 IFY Excellence discount to the £3,500-per-year Global Gold. External UK Government routes like Chevening add £50,000+ on top.
- Standard international tuition (2026/27): £14,400 to £21,540 per year (INR 18.46 to 27.61 Lakhs).
- With Global Gold PG waiver: £11,400 to £18,540 per year (INR 14.61 to 23.76 Lakhs).
- With India Scholarship + Global Silver PG combo: Net £8,900 to £16,040 (INR 11.41 to 20.55 Lakhs), a £5,500 reduction (INR 7.05 Lakhs).
- Next major deadline: Global Silver Excellence closes tentative August 20, 2026 for the September 2026 intake.
Currency Note: All INR conversions use the live rate of 1 GBP = INR 128.17 as of August 2026. A "tuition fee waiver" means the amount is deducted directly from the annual invoice, not paid out as cash.

University of Salford Scholarships for UG Students
Undergraduate applicants from India can be assessed for three merit-based tuition waivers at the offer stage. There is no separate application form for the Gold, Silver or IFY awards. The Admissions team applies them automatically once the offer is issued.
| Scholarship | Value (GBP / INR) | Indian Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Global Gold Excellence Scholarship | £3,500 per year (INR 4.49 Lakhs / year) | Equivalent of A-level ABB; typically 85%+ in Class XII (CBSE, ISE or state boards) | Rolling; tied to offer acceptance deadline for September 2026 and September 2027 entry |
| Global Silver Excellence Scholarship | £3,000 per year (INR 3.85 Lakhs / year) | Equivalent of A-level BBC; typically 75% to 84% in Class XII | Tentative August 20, 2026 (September 2026 entry); tentative August 2027 for the next cycle |
| International Excellence Scholarship (Advanced Entry) | £3,500 tuition waiver (INR 4.49 Lakhs) | Advanced entry offer into Year 2 or Year 3; two-part 300-word essay on leadership | Tentative July 14, 2027 (next cycle; the 2026 window has closed) |
| IFY Excellence Scholarship | £2,500 one-off (INR 3.20 Lakhs) | Foundation Year students; IGCSE average 6.0 or B, or case-by-case for CBSE and ISE | Rolling; assessed on IFY entry for September 2026 and 2027 |
Gold and Silver awards recur every year of the UG degree. A three-year bachelor’s on Global Gold saves £10,500 (INR 13.46 Lakhs) across the full programme. The IFY waiver applies only in the foundation year, not the main degree.
Indian applicants aiming for Global Gold should note these hard filters:
- Grade evidence: Class XII marksheet with year-end percentage, not predicted grades.
- English proficiency: IELTS 6.0 overall for UG entry (6.5 for BSc Nursing and Physiotherapy).
- Programme fit: Both Gold and Silver exclude a few pre-registration health courses; check the course page before applying.

University of Salford Scholarships for PG / Master’s Students
Master’s applicants have five funding streams. Global Gold, Global Silver and International Excellence are one-off tuition waivers, since most taught PG programmes are one-year courses. Loyalty and Prompt Payment discounts stack on top of merit awards.
| Award | PG Value (GBP / INR) | Who Qualifies | Cut-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Global Gold Excellence Scholarship (PG) | £3,000 one-off (INR 3.85 Lakhs) |
First-class Indian bachelor’s (typically 70%+ or CGPA 7.5+); meet all offer conditions on time | Rolling; must accept offer and pay deposit by stated offer deadline |
| Global Silver Excellence Scholarship (PG) | £2,500 one-off (INR 3.20 Lakhs) |
Second-class upper Indian bachelor’s (2:2 equivalent, typically 55% to 69%) | Tentative August 20, 2026 for September 2026 entry |
| International Excellence Scholarship (PG) | £3,000 tuition waiver (INR 3.85 Lakhs) |
Confirmed offer holder plus documented leadership or professional experience | Tentative July 14, 2027 (next cycle) |
| Loyalty Discount | 20% off PG tuition (£2,880 to £4,308 on 2026/27 fees, INR 3.69 to 5.52 Lakhs) |
Salford UG or IFY alumni progressing directly to a Salford PG programme | Rolling; applied at PG offer stage |
| Prompt Payment Discount | 3% off tuition (£432 to £646 typically, INR 0.55 to 0.83 Lakhs) |
Any Indian PG applicant paying the year’s fees in full upfront | Rolling; opt in at fee payment stage |
The Prompt Payment Discount is often overlooked. A student on the £16,040 MSc International Business fee saves £481 (INR 0.62 Lakhs) by paying in full. The alternative is the 7-instalment plan.
Reddit Insight: Threads on Indian PG applicant forums note that stacking Global Silver + Loyalty is the most common route for Salford IFY graduates. IFY students already carry the offer trail Admissions needs for auto-assessment.

India-Specific Scholarships at University of Salford
University of Salford runs one funding line reserved for Indian nationals. It is a fixed £3,000 award, applied as a tuition discount on the first year of study.
| Route | Combined Value | Conditions | Window |
|---|---|---|---|
| University of Salford India Scholarship | £3,000 tuition discount (INR 3.85 Lakhs) | Indian nationals holding a full offer for a UG or PG taught programme; strong academic profile (typically 70%+ at prior level) | Rolling; tied to individual offer deadlines for September 2026 and January 2027 entries |
| Stack with Global Silver (PG) | Combined £5,500 (INR 7.05 Lakhs) | Same as above plus 2:2 Indian bachelor’s equivalent | Applied automatically if both criteria are met |
| Stack with Loyalty Discount | India £3,000 + 20% Loyalty on residual fee | Salford UG alumni starting a Salford PG programme | Applied at PG offer stage |
The India Scholarship does not stack with Global Gold, since Gold is already a higher-tier merit award. The Admissions team applies the single scholarship that gives the largest total reduction. Silver + India stacking is allowed because Silver sits at a lower band.
Indian applicants who miss the September intake still qualify for the January window, so the fund cycle does not lock candidates out. Both offer letters trigger the same automatic scholarship review.
University of Salford PhD Scholarships
PhD funding for Indian applicants is narrower than at the taught levels. The Widening Participation Scholarship covers UK candidates only. International PhD applicants rely on school-specific funded projects, the EDI Scholarship in Arts / Media, or external routes like Commonwealth PhD.
| Funding Route | Fee / Package (2026/27) | Indian PhD Eligibility | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arts, Media and Creative Technology EDI Scholarship | Full tuition waiver + stipend; covers £17,700 international fee (INR 22.69 Lakhs / year) | Open to international PhD applicants in Arts, Media or Creative Technology projects | Tentative January 31, 2027 for October 2027 entry |
| Funded Project Studentships (Science, Engineering, Environment) | Varies by project; typical package covers £19,240 fee (INR 24.66 Lakhs / year) + stipend | Project-linked; open to international applicants when the funder allows | Rolling; posted on the Salford PhD portal per project |
| Business School Doctoral Studentships | Fee waiver on £17,920 international rate (INR 22.97 Lakhs / year) | Competitive; usually attached to an approved research theme | Tentative March 15, 2027 for the 2027 cycle |
| Split-site Doctoral Study | £7,646 per year (INR 9.80 Lakhs / year) | Indian applicants based partly at Salford, partly at a home institution | Rolling; approved by supervisor and school |
Standard international PhD fees for 2026/27 vary by school. Arts and Media sits at £17,700, Business School at £17,920, Health and Society at £18,880, and Science, Engineering and Environment at £19,240. Part-time rates are half these values.
Indian applicants pursuing a PhD without a funded project usually combine the split-site option with a Commonwealth PhD Scholarship application. The combination cuts direct out-of-pocket tuition below INR 10 Lakhs per year.
University of Salford Programs lists open PhD themes across the four schools.
External Government Scholarships for University of Salford
Four external funding routes are open to Indian applicants heading to Salford. Chevening and Commonwealth Master’s are fully-funded and cover almost the entire cost of study. The GREAT Scholarship is confirmed for 12 UK universities in 2026/27 but Salford is not on the participating list. Indian applicants should treat GREAT as a route to other UK universities.
| Programme | Total Package (INR) | What It Covers | Application Close |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chevening Scholarship (UK Government) | £50,000+ (INR 64.09 Lakhs) | Full tuition, £1,378 monthly living stipend outside London, return airfare, visa, thesis grant | October 6, 2026 (2027 entry) |
| Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship | £30,000+ (INR 38.45 Lakhs) full cost of study | Full tuition, £1,452 monthly stipend outside London, return airfare, thesis grant | Tentative mid-October 2026 for 2027/28 entry; portal opens September 2026 |
| Commonwealth PhD Scholarship | Approx. £70,000+ (INR 89.72 Lakhs) across 3 years | Full PhD tuition + monthly stipend + return airfare for eligible research areas | Tentative December 2026 for 2027 PhD intake |
| NCUK Scholarships | Varies; typically £2,000 to £5,000 (INR 2.56 to 6.41 Lakhs) | Progression bursary for NCUK pathway students entering Salford UG or PG | Assessed on offer confirmation; annual cycle |
Chevening requires 2,800 hours of post-graduation work experience and a 2:1 Indian bachelor’s. It suits applicants with 2+ years of full-time experience. Commonwealth Master’s is means-tested and prioritises candidates with demonstrated financial need and a two-year home-return commitment.
Reddit Insight: Indian Chevening applicants on r/scholarships flag Salford as an eligible unconditional-offer partner. The Salford CAS turnaround adds 3 to 4 weeks, so the July 9, 2027 unconditional-offer deadline is the hard-fail step, not October 6.
Applicants pursuing Chevening or Commonwealth should apply to Salford in parallel, since a Salford offer is a prerequisite for the final Chevening decision. A confirmed government scholarship also waives the tuition deposit of £5,500 (roughly INR 7 Lakhs).

Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. What is the maximum scholarship stack an Indian student can secure at University of Salford?
Ans. A Chevening Scholar on a Salford Master’s programme secures £50,000+ (INR 64.09 Lakhs). This covers full tuition, non-London stipend, airfare and thesis grant. For self-funded Indian PG applicants, the top institutional stack is the £3,000 India Scholarship plus £2,500 Global Silver plus 3% Prompt Payment. That totals roughly £6,000 (INR 7.69 Lakhs) off first-year tuition.
Ques. When should Indian applicants apply to secure a University of Salford scholarship?
Ans. For September 2026 entry, submit the UCAS or direct Salford application by early July 2026. That leaves time for the Global Silver August 20 tentative deadline. For September 2027 entry, target October to December 2026 applications, and October 6, 2026 for Chevening. The India Scholarship and Global Gold are rolling and applied automatically on offer issue.
Ques. Do I need to submit a separate application for University of Salford merit scholarships?
Ans. No. Global Gold, Global Silver, IFY Excellence and the India Scholarship are automatically assessed when your application is reviewed. The International Excellence Scholarship is the only merit award requiring a separate online form plus a two-part 300-word essay. Chevening and Commonwealth apply through their own government portals, not through Salford.
Ques. What academic threshold do Indian students need for the Global Gold Excellence Scholarship?
Ans. UG applicants need the Indian equivalent of A-level ABB. This maps to 85%+ in CBSE or ISE Class XII, or the top band of state boards. PG applicants need a first-class Indian bachelor’s, usually 70% or CGPA 7.5+ from a UGC-recognised university. Meeting the threshold triggers automatic Gold assessment; there is no interview.
Ques. Does the University of Salford India Scholarship cover living costs in Manchester?
Ans. No. The £3,000 (INR 3.85 Lakhs) India Scholarship is a tuition-only discount applied to the first-year fee invoice. Salford students typically budget £900 to £1,100 per month (INR 1.15 to 1.41 Lakhs) for rent, food and transport in Greater Manchester. Chevening or Commonwealth Master’s are the only routes at Salford that fully cover living costs.
Ques. Is the University of Salford part of the GREAT Scholarship 2026/27 scheme?
Ans. No. The British Council confirmed 12 UK universities for the 2026/27 GREAT Scholarship cycle, and Salford is not on the list. Indian applicants aiming for the £10,000 (INR 12.82 Lakhs) GREAT award should target the participating universities. Salford applicants should instead focus on Global Gold, Global Silver, the India Scholarship and Chevening.

- I found my accommodation through Amber.
montly rent is 770 pound and it includes gym, social area, car parking, free goodies in reception area, all the bills are included, television, heater etc . - While securing accommodation, one of the challenges I encountered was finding a place that was both affordable and close to the university. As an international student, I had limited knowledge of the area, so it was tricky to judge the best location for convenience, cost, and safety.
- My accommodation is 10 min away from university it is expensive but it has all the facility and here you will find 80% of indians.

The admission process was relatively straightforward as I had already completed my undergrad at the same University and applied through the University. I chose Salford because it's in Manchester, and for arts and media students the second campus is located at the heart of MediaCity UK, right next to the BBC. ITV Studios, the Lowry theatre, and the Imperial War Museum are also housed in the same area, with Manchester United's home stadium, Old Trafford, just across the Quays. I would recommend Manchester to arts and media students because of its rich history in the field. The University of Salford has an excellent sprawling main campus as well, which has introduced two new states of the art buildings. Like for any University, there are certain courses and certain departments that might not be up to the required standards. So research the right course before applying. Personally, I enjoyed my time there, and I would recommend it, especially for arts and media students.

Scholarship
No.
I chose the University of Salford for their course provision: Media Psychology. The course was not being offered by other universities.
Scholarship
Yes, Govt of India
The choice of the University was subject specific as I found staffs and academicians more experts in my field.
Scholarship
Yes, I got the Salford Business School Post Graduate Excellence Award for £3500. The application process for the scholarship is separate and opens only on a particular date. So keep a close eye on the university website and apply for the scholarship before the deadline.
My course is Fraud and Risk Management which is a specialized subject. The University of Salford was the only university in England to combine the subjects of 'fraud' and 'risk management' as a master's. Other universities only offer an MSc in Risk Management.
