Swansea University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

The core requirement for Indian postgraduate applicants at Swansea is a three or four year bachelor’s degree at Second Class Lower Division or above, plus a valid English test score if the medium of study was not English.

Postgraduate requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 for a 2:2 equivalent, or 60% or CGPA 6.0/10 for the 2:1 courses such as MSc International Business (recommended)
  • English test: IELTS Academic 6.0 with 5.5 in each band for most MSc, IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in each band for LLM and MSc Clinical Psychology; TOEFL iBT 4.5 (1 to 6 scale) with Listening 21, Reading 22, Speaking 23, Writing 22 for IELTS 6.5-level courses; PTE Academic 69 with 69 in each component; Cambridge English 176 with 176 in each skill
  • Credential verification through WES or Qualification Check portal (mandatory for Haryana and Punjab boards)
  • Personal statement, two academic references and CV for select MSc courses such as MSc Clinical Psychology

Undergraduate requirements:

  • Class 12 from CBSE, CISCE or a recognised State Board with a minimum 70% overall
  • English test as above, or Class 12 English at 70% used as an official IELTS waiver

Note: Swansea accepts Class 12 English at 70% as an IELTS waiver for Indian applicants at both UG and PG level, and a Medium of Instruction letter from the bachelor’s institution also waives the English test for postgraduate courses where the degree was fully taught in English within the last ten years.

Swansea University Acceptance Rate 2027

Swansea University does not publish an official acceptance rate. Third-party admissions data for closely ranked UK universities places the international acceptance rate at 53% (estimated), with the domestic UK acceptance rate near 14% (estimated). This figure should be treated as indicative rather than confirmed.

The higher international figure reflects a large pool of eligible applicants from India, Nigeria and China who meet the 2:2 minimum and English test cutoff, and Swansea sits in the mid-competitive band relative to Russell Group peers such as Cardiff University.

Applicants who match the entry requirement in the fees table above and submit within the first two months of the intake window carry the strongest odds.

Reality check: Indian applicants with a 2:2 degree, valid IELTS and clean documentation report offer turnaround of 10 to 15 working days from Swansea, which is faster than the Russell Group average of four to six weeks.

Swansea University Campus, Facilities and Student Life

Swansea University runs two seafront campuses in the coastal city of Swansea, roughly 4 km apart and connected by a 15-minute campus bus. Both sit within walking distance of the Gower peninsula beaches.

  • Location and transport: Singleton Park hosts arts, law and medicine; Bay Campus hosts engineering, computer science and management; both connect to the city centre by frequent bus at GBP 20 per week or GBP 276 per year with the MyTravelPass concession.
  • Housing: Accommodation is guaranteed for international first-year undergraduates and offered to most postgraduates, with halls priced at GBP 130 to 258 per week and a GBP 100 reservation deposit.
  • Facilities: The GBP 32 million Bay Library, a full aquatic centre with 50 m pool, computational labs including the Supercomputing Wales facility, and a dedicated Employability Academy on both campuses.
  • Indian community: The Swansea Indian Society runs Diwali and Holi events on campus, weekly cricket at Singleton Park, and a peer-mentor scheme that pairs new Indian arrivals with senior students during induction.

What Indian students say: The cost gap versus London universities is the single most cited reason for choosing Swansea, alongside the compact campus that keeps travel time inside 15 minutes end to end. Indian postgraduates flag the beach five minutes from Bay Campus and the low-friction part-time work market in retail and hospitality.

Key insight: All three global bodies show Swansea inside the top 400 which meets the "recognised institution" threshold most Indian public-sector employers and PSU banks use when validating a UK degree for loan waivers and pay-scale slotting.

Swansea University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Swansea sits inside the top 30 UK universities for graduate outcomes in the Complete University Guide 2027 bracket, with the Employability Academy running dedicated recruiter drives across both campuses.

  • Graduate employment: 82% of Swansea graduates in employment or further study within 15 months (Graduate Outcomes survey; sector-median band for the university’s rank tier)
  • Median starting salary (masters): GBP 25,000 to 32,000 (INR 32.68 to 41.83 lakh, market median for MSc graduates in Wales)
  • Top recruiting sectors: Technology, financial services, healthcare, engineering consulting and public sector; representative employers include Admiral Group, DVLA, NHS Wales, PwC and Tata Consultancy Services (labelled sector snapshot)
  • MBA outcomes: Post-MBA median salary GBP 45,000 to 55,000 (INR 58.83 to 71.91 lakh, market median for UK regional MBA)
  • Post-study work: Graduate Route visa allows two years of work in the UK for masters graduates and three years for PhD graduates; strongest search corridors sit alongside other MBA universities in United Kingdom in Cardiff, Bristol and London

Insider note: Indian graduates from MSc Data Science and MSc Computer Science land into UK data engineering and cloud roles at Admiral, Sky and DVLA, and use the two-year Graduate Route to bridge into sponsorship without leaving Wales.

Swansea University vs Peer Universities

The peer set below covers Welsh universities on the same campus scale as Swansea plus two English mid-rank institutions Indian applicants commonly benchmark against on fees and rank.

UniversityQS Rank 2027CD Study Abroad 2026Avg annual PG fee (GBP)Avg annual PG fee (INR lakh)Differentiator
Swansea University#322#240 global21,150 to 24,50027.65 to 32.03 lakhCheapest UK city on this list plus automatic Thrive Bursary
Cardiff University#191NA25,450 to 29,700 (estimated)33.27 to 38.83 lakh (estimated)Russell Group tier and journalism strength
Aberystwyth University#485NA18,500 to 22,000 (estimated)24.19 to 28.76 lakh (estimated)Lowest Welsh PG fees, coastal setting

Bangor University#682NA19,500 to 22,000 (estimated)25.49 to 28.76 lakh (estimated)Marine sciences and forestry strength

Key insight: Swansea offers the highest-ranked Welsh option outside Cardiff at GBP 4,000 to 5,000 lower annual PG fees, and the Thrive Bursary closes the residual fee gap for eligible Indian applicants.

Swansea trades off the Russell Group badge of Cardiff for a lower fee, guaranteed halls and a smaller Indian cohort where support staff know applicants by name during induction.

Swansea University suits the Indian applicant who wants a top 400 QS-ranked UK masters at a total investment of INR 43 to 52 lakh, against a market-median starting salary of INR 32 to 42 lakh and a two-year Graduate Route visa. The Thrive Bursary and the low Swansea rent band together carve roughly INR 4 to 6 lakh off the sticker cost, making it a rare UK option that balances rank credibility with real affordability for self-funding families.

Swansea is not the fit for applicants targeting Russell Group prestige, London recruiter density or courses accredited by specific Indian regulators such as MCI Medicine; those applicants should look at Cardiff University or a London-based peer such as Queen Mary University of London instead.

Swansea University FAQs

Ques. Does Swansea University offer IELTS waivers for Indian applicants?

Ans. Yes, Swansea University accepts Class 12 English at 70% from CBSE, CISCE and recognised State Boards as an IELTS waiver at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, provided the qualification is within ten years. Indian postgraduate applicants whose bachelor’s degree was taught fully in English can also submit a Medium of Instruction letter from the awarding university in place of an IELTS or TOEFL score, as long as the degree finished within the last ten years.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at Swansea University?

Ans. Yes, the Student visa attached to a Swansea University offer allows Indian students to work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during official vacation periods. Common student jobs in Swansea include retail, hospitality, university library assistantships and campus bar shifts, paying between GBP 11 and 14 per hour at 2026 living wage rates. Full-time internships during summer are allowed on the same visa without a separate permit.

Ques. Which Indian education loan providers recognise Swansea University?

Ans. Swansea University is on the recognised institution list for HDFC Credila, Avanse Financial Services, InCred, Auxilo, State Bank of India and ICICI Bank for education loans up to INR 60 lakh without collateral for selected MSc courses. Loan sanction typically takes 15 to 25 working days once the CAS letter, offer letter and Swansea invoice are submitted, and disbursement runs on the semester tuition schedule.

Ques. How does the Swansea University application fee work for Indian applicants?

Ans. Swansea University charges no application fee for direct postgraduate applications submitted through the university portal, which sets it apart from most Russell Group institutions that charge GBP 25 to 75 per course. Undergraduate applicants using the UCAS route pay the standard UCAS fee of GBP 28.50 for a single choice or GBP 28.50 for multiple choices, with no separate Swansea fee on top.

Ques. What documents are required for dependent visas at Swansea University?

Ans. Indian students admitted to postgraduate research or masters courses of nine months or longer can bring dependants on the Student Dependent visa. Required documents include the marriage certificate for a spouse or birth certificate for children, financial proof of GBP 845 per month for each dependant for up to nine months in London or GBP 680 per month outside London, and the university-issued CAS naming the primary applicant. Applications sit alongside the main Student visa.

Ques. When does Swansea University issue conditional versus unconditional offers?

Ans. Swansea issues a conditional offer when the Indian applicant is still awaiting final Class 12 results, final semester bachelor’s marksheet or an English test score. The offer converts to unconditional once the outstanding document is uploaded and meets the stated threshold. Offer turnaround averages 10 to 15 working days from submission, and applicants can accept the conditional offer immediately to secure a CAS timeline slot.

Ques. Are Duolingo and IELTS Indicator accepted at Swansea University?

Ans. Swansea University accepts the Duolingo English Test only for entry onto pre-sessional English programmes, not for direct entry into a bachelor’s or masters course. IELTS Indicator is not accepted for direct entry either. Indian applicants must sit IELTS Academic, IELTS UKVI, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic or a Cambridge English test at the required score for direct offers into a taught programme.

Ques. What is the transcript verification process at Swansea University?

Ans. Swansea University verifies Indian transcripts through WES for most State Board and CBSE candidates and through its own Qualification Check portal for Haryana and Punjab board applicants. Qualification Check charges around GBP 30 plus an institution surcharge and runs alongside the main application. Applicants should factor in eight to ten weeks lead time between requesting verification and the application deadline to avoid delays in offer processing.

Life at Swansea

Admission Experience

  • I applied for a total of 6 universities in the UK, including Swansea University, Cardiff University, University of Birmingham, Leicester University, University of Nottingham, and the University of Bath.
  • All of these institutions are best known for their academic programs and reputations all over, which made them perfect options for my postgraduate studies. Taking into account that my focus was to choose a university that not only matched my career goals but also offered support & guidance for international students especially from India. Luckily, I received conditional offers from all the universities I applied to, reflecting the alignment of my experience, academic background and inclination with their entry requirements.
  • Receiving conditional offers meant that each university was prepared to accept me, provided I met specific criteria, that was clearing Ielts Exam 7 band average and not less than 6.5 in any of the tests, other than this I was supposed to sit for the Interview for a successful scholarship of 50% or more. I carefully considered all the factors such as program structure, university rankings, campus facilities, affordable fees, living expenses and scholarships criteria while deciding where to enroll.
  • There were several factors based on which I made my decision to go for Swansea University.
Firstly, the intake played an important role in my decision. Maximum universities offered a September intake, while only two provided the option to start in January. Swansea University’s & Cardiff University January intake fitted better with my personal schedule.
I chose Swansea University for various convincing reasons that made it the most suitable choice for my postgrad course. One of the primary factors was the 50% scholarship other than the cost of living in Swansea in Wales, which is less compared to other cities where I received offers.
Cities like Birmingham, Nottingham, and Bath have higher living costs.
  • I applied for January intake because after quitting my job I was looking for an option to study abroad as soon as possible. The admission process including CAS, IELTS, DEPOSIT, INTERVIEW, VISA, VISA INTERVIEW and loan process took 2 months. I started searching and applying for Universities in mid August 2023. It took me 2-3 weeks to receive offers from universities. Deadline for acceptance of the offer or to convert the conditional offer to unconditional is again 2-3 weeks.

Exam

  • I was required to undertake the IELTS EXAM as a part of the English language requirement.
  • The documents required for the successful admission were:
    1. Education documents (10, 12, Bachelors, or if any master)
    2. Experience if any
    3. Minimum 2 LOR from institution, employer.
    4. Resume
    5. SOP of minimum 500 words stating your purpose and what skill will you attain with this degree.

Course Curriculum Overview

  • Course curriculum follows a master level pattern which means they want you to read articles, journals and books and take part in seminars to show your engagement.
  • There are up to 2 classes per week in the second trimester and maximum of 9 classes in a week in the first trimester and third trimester.
  • University itself offers part time employment opportunities, voluntary services, and has an employability hub which helps you in finding part time and sponsorship jobs in the UK. They offer resume/ CV building classes and one to one sessions for students.

Fees

  • Total fees: £20,600 for the course
  • Scholarship: £8,000 (Bursary + Hardship Funding + Experience based reduction in fees), After Scholarship: £12,800
  • Accommodation: £410/ Monthly
  • All other Expenses: £135/ Monthly. Further segregated: Food: £80, Recharge: £5, Bus: £50
  • Fees is to be paid in 3 installments: 50%: Feb, Once you land in the UK and start your lecture, 25%: June, after completion of the First trimester, 25%: Sept, before the start of the third trimester.

Scholarship

  • Swansea University offers many scholarships and financial aid based on need, experience, skills to support students from diverse backgrounds. Some of the notable scholarships include: Chevening Scholarship, this prestigious scholarship provides full financial support to outstanding students who have demonstrated leadership potential and a commitment to making a positive impact in their home country. But there is one backdrop of this scholarship that you can’t go for a Post study work visa or sponsorship visa under this.
  • The university is also offering scholarships specifically for students with significant professional experience in their chosen field of study. These scholarships aim to attract students who can bring practical insights to their academic field.
  • University also has bursaries that vary depending on the student’s country of residence. These bursaries are designed to make education more accessible to international students, and the amounts can differ based on factors specific to each country.
  • For students who demonstrate a strong passion for entrepreneurship, Swansea University offers scholarships and grants that can help fund their education. And universities can even provide financial support or investment in business ideas for students who show promise as innovative entrepreneurs.
  • Hardship funding is also an option for students facing financial difficulties or are unable to cover their living expenses/ cost due to unforeseen circumstances or other commitments.

Faculty

  • I admire Ellie Ismalgoliva (Senior Professor) the most of all. She has had a wonderful journey of being once a student and today module coordinator in University.
  • Average number of students in Lectures depend on modules in some you may have 100 or even 500 few subjects. Seminars have almost 30-40 students maximum.
  • 25-30% of Indians are enrolled in the University and approx the same in my course.
  • Each and everything taught in Lectures are repeated in Seminars and students are asked to take part and get engaged so that they can have confidence in public speaking, presentation skills, etc.

Campus Life

  • Swansea University has two campuses: Bay and Singleton. Bay Campus offers management, data science, and engineering programmes, while Singleton Campus offers courses in law, healthcare, medicine, criminology, psychology, and more, with over 50 programs.
  • The university provides free sports facilities and on-site medical services, including one of the biggest inside university which is Singleton Hospital under the NHS.
  • Celebration of cultural diversity is done, with emphasis on remembering important dates such as Easter, Christmas, Diwali, and Eid. Helping students build their careers, career fairs, trip to Parliament, and collaboration with IIM Shillong as a part of the International Immersion Program were organized. The student union also coordinates a number of country-specific committees to ensure everyone’s participation.

Accommodation

  • I am living in Student accommodation provided by the university itself. There were no challenges in finding accommodation. Everything is available online on university portals and renting websites.
  • My monthly rent is £410 for a large 26m square studio shared by 2 students. Best accommodation in Swansea.
  • Students should go for accommodation based on their budget, sharing preferences, & dietary habits (whether veg/non-veg). For those with no specific requirements, low-cost rooms are available for around £250.

Placement

  • 80-85% of graduating students get jobs after 5-6 months of completing their course but are not provided the sponsorship as recruiters are facing difficulty due to new UK government visa guidelines.
  • Minimum salary of GBP 23,500 to maximum salary of GBP 54,000 annually can be provided to a graduate student after completing post graduate course.
  • After completing graduation students find jobs through the university's own job portal, Alumni reference network, and other job portals available out there, and even Walk ins are considered.
  • Recently last week we had our career fair where big companies like JLR, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Volkswagen, PwC, KPMG, Barclays, HSBC and other major companies visited the campus explained the process of conquering assessment and interview process, what skills they are looking for in resume/CV of students and suggested tips for Graduate placement roles available.

Part Time Jobs

  • Students who successfully complete a dissertation with distinction grades are offered a research degree (PHD) by the University. And while studying a student is offered an assistant post for practical experience. Initially the pay range is on hourly basis but once you are trained and superior sees good progress in you they might offer you a monthly salary with sponsorship.
  • Maximum hours allowed for a tier 4 are 20 as per the UKVI guidelines.
  • It’s easy to secure a part time job on campus as they have an employment zone, student circus, and other activity hiring platforms for international students.
  • Students generally earn around £10 to £11.44 per hour but there are few students earning more than the base rate. Some enjoy a pay rate of more than £12.5. It’s easy for a student to get a part time job while studying but he/she should be actively looking for the jobs. Usually a student can get a part time job from indeed as well but if he/she faces difficulty then walk-ins are preferred.

  • Exceptionally good. There was no pressure. Rather, we are encouraged to find the balance between fun and studies. The college environment was relaxed and enjoyable.
  • Work assigned in class had to be submitted before the deadline. There will be absolutely no leniency.
  • A whole lot of sports and clubs to choose from, with strong encouragement from teaching staff to join extracurricular activities.
  • More than 100 clubs available. Students can easily do 2–3 sports or clubs at a time.
  • Clubs are easy to join, inclusive, and hold social weeks to help students connect and get comfortable in the new city.
  • The library provides quiet study spaces, group discussion rooms, and access to journals and online resources, making it very easy to complete assignments and research. Books are available for rent, and in case they are taken, the university offers e-renting services as well.
  • The university also provides free access to reputable platforms like JSTOR, which publish journals and papers that are otherwise expensive. This is incredibly helpful for reference work and for accessing the most relevant research materials.

Fees

  • Total tuition fee for the 1-year program: £19,250.
  • Living expenses, including rent: around £12,000.
  • Overall, including living costs, the total comes to approximately £28,000–£30,000.

  • It had two campuses. student pass for almost everything were there, from Accommodation to commuting and from restaurants to clubbing. every Wednesday was a sports day and you were free to join any game. A few were paid but made sense due to tournaments. there was more than 100 societies in the university, and almost all were active. Every Friday was a popular event and most clubs had student passes.

  • My university has 2 campuses. one is the Singleton campus and the other is the Bay campus. both are situated on the beach and have spectacular views. they both have all the facilities like libraries, sports etc.
  • Many campus festivals take place in my university, like the freshers, summer ball, etc. there are plenty of extracurricular activities such as cultural events going on throughout the year. we have hindu society, tamil society etc and celebrate holi, diwali etc.

Fees

  • The total fees in my field was 20500 pounds. I paid half of the amount before joining university and the other half before the beginning of the second semester. the fees are charged semester wise.
  • I did not take accommodation from university but stayed nearby and used the university bus which was quite affordable. My monthly expenses were roughly 500 for rent(including bills), 200 on food, 50 on transportation and 15 for gym and societies.

  • There are two campuses based on the different courses. Each campuses have the library and the sports facilities. Colleges society will plan the cultural events like Holi, Halloween etc which students will enjoy. Also, as per the interest of the students you can approach the concern society to get more involved. During my time I had a good time in Holi as Indian society organised a good holi meet.

Fees

  • Tution fees - Near about 12000 pounds
Hostel fee - Near about 6000-7000 pounds/ you can opt to stay in private accommodation, that you will find easily there as lots of property vendor available there and it will be cheaper than the college hostel.
  • Tution fees you have to pay maximum in two go; however hostel fees you can pay as per your wishes but ofcourse always in advance

Overview

  • The first thing is Bristol and Glasgow were more expensive for me, and except for Swansea, no other university offered me a scholarship.
  • And the second thing is a collaboration with aerospace companies. One friend of mine was studying there, and he got to work with Mercedes Benz, so I decided to go with Swansea, and it is way more beautiful.

  • Campus experience is wonderful and mesmerising; campus was more beautiful than what we show online. Swansea Uni has two campuses, Singleton and Bay. Ours was Bay campus because of a large inward sea line is very close to the buildings of the campus; hence they named it Bay campus, and Singleton campus is the older one. both are very far to each other. Both campuses have the library, cafeteria, prayer hall, and places for food like Greggs, Subway, and Tesco Express. Singleton campus is famous for School of Culture and Communication, Social Sciences, Health and Social Care, Psychology, Biosciences, Geography and Physics, the Medical School and the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law. Bay Campus is famous for Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Sports, Research & development. Bay campus is new and has a new accommodation facility close to the uni and has a large basketball & football court.
  • There were many clubs & activities going on throughout the year. Clubs like Swansea Uni Live Music Society, Drama Society, Swansea Snow Riders, Hiking, Road Cycling, Equestrian Club, Islamic Society, Dance Club, Skate Society, Swimming Club, Golf Club, Student Union, Surf & Rowing Club, K-Pop Society, LGBTQ+ Society, Indian Society, and various sports clubs & societies, and many more I'm not aware of. You can find all the media & photos on social media like Insta or Facebook; I'm sorry, I don't have it.
  • We celebrated almost all Indian festivals with my international friends, like Diwali and Holi, Chatth puja, Navratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, EID & Ramadhan, etc.
  • We often used to go hiking and cycling to the most beautiful location in Swansea and it was the most joyful time I ever experienced. Swansea is a combination of both mountain and seaside beauty.

  • Swansea University is comprised of two major campuses:
Singleton Park Campus: Many institutional buildings sit within this very green landscape park which is by the swansea bay, and the school of Arts & Humanities, School of Medicine as well as School of Science are located within its premises.
Bay Campus: Located to the east of the city in close proximity to the beach, the Bay Campus is home to the College of Engineering, the School of Management and the Computational Foundry.
  • Each of the campuses has a well-equipped library with different study materials, journals, e-books and electronic materials, and available study areas and support personnel.
  • There are very good sporting facilities including a gym, swimming pool, and indoor games area. In addition, Swansea Bay which is close by has facilities for water sports such as surfing and sailing.
  • Medical and Wellness Facilities are also available.
  • Freshers’ Week: This is the first big event of the year dedicated to getting new students involved in numerous activities, club fairs, and social events.

Fees

  • Tuition fee was £19100, this included everything but at the end of the college for ceremony gown it costed £80.
  • Accommodation was upto you if you wanted to stay in the university or outside the campus. I chose to stay outside the campus because that was cheap. For me it costed £400 rent/month, bus pass for £33 / month, groceries + entertainment £300. All in all, you need at least £850/month.

Overview

I opted for Maritime Law at Swansea University since its faculties are pioneers in contributing to the literature in maritime law. It was always my first choice thus, my decision was a no-brainer. My experience at this Uni has been enriching. For career opportunities, one has to look at themselves. Please do not undertake this course if you don't have any work experience beforehand as it will be difficult for you.

Overview

I chose this university as this has a higher ranking in the healthcare sector, admission process is also flexible and can apply 3-4 months prior to the course starting as well. I missed the September intake deadline which was in April/May due to my passport issues and this was the best option I had for the January intake.

The campus has a decent infrastructure, there are many student union groups, cultural, religion and sports-oriented. There are about 80+ sports clubs and also country-wide clubs.

Overview

The university course -BSc Applied Medical Sciences is a fantastic pathway for those looking to go into medical research, enterprise, or study Medicine afterwards. The location is really relaxing with the beach near the university campus and the lecturers and support network is really welcoming and encouraging. I chose Swansea particularly due to the 2nd year Pathways that they provide to study Graduate Entry Medicine.

Currently it is £9250 for each academic year.
