IIT Gandhinagar JEE Advanced Cutoff

IIT Gandhinagar offers a B.Tech. degree in a total of 6 different departments. Admission to these programs is done through the IIT JEE-Advanced examination which is conducted in the month of May every year.

JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) controls the entire admission procedure. A total of 7 rounds of admissions and counseling take place each year.

The cutoff is released in the form of opening and closing ranks. It is further divided into categories and each category is further divided on the basis of gender.

Usually, students with an All India Rank below 1600 get admission into CSE at IIT Gandhinagar. CSE is the most sought after course among engineering aspirants. The lowest rank for getting admission in IIT Gandhinagar in 2019 was 9291 in Materials Science and Engineering.

Courses 2019 Closing Rank 2018 Closing Rank
Chemical Engineering 6671 6180
Civil Engineering 8122 7542
Computer Science and Engineering 1548 1447
Electrical Engineering 3299 3099
Materials Science and Engineering 9291 8532
Mechanical Engineering 4476 4229

It is quite evident from the above comparison table that the cutoffs for this year were lower than those for the last year. Students with relatively lower ranks in the final JEE Advanced merit list also managed to get admission into IIT Gandhinagar for a B.Tech. degree in one of the programs offered. The difficulty level of the 2019 JEE Advanced question paper could be a reason for the drop in the closing ranks for admission.

Students usually prefer other IITs like IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, and IIT Kharagpur over IIT Gandhinagar and thus the cutoffs for these colleges are often much higher.

Here is a comparison of cutoffs between a few other IITs :

Courses IIT Hyderabad IIT Gandhinagar IIT Indore
Computer Science and Engineering 203-613 1047-1548 640-1020
Electrical Engineering 808-1774 1564-3299 1868-3295
Mechanical Engineering 1955-3284 3259-4476 3417-4801
Chemical Engineering 3729-5596 4744-6671 5577-6508

As per the data presented above, it is evident that is somewhat easier to secure admission at IIT Gandhinagar than at IIT Hyderabad, although, there is a cut-throat competition between IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Indore.

Ques. Which should I opt for: chemical engineering at IIT Gandhinagar or CSE at BITS Goa?

● Top Answer By Debdeep Majumder on 26 Feb 21

Ans. The preference is always given to BITS Goa as it belongs to the most reputed family of BITS institute. One of my friends has studied there and he loves the campus from all aspects. The major reasons as to why BITS Goa is to be preferred are: Scope CSE has more job opportunities in the market as compared to other branches of engineering.  If you even go for a core organization in the chemical field; the highest package is not more than 6 LPA.  In the case of CSE, if you are into coding a good package can be cracked. The highest package is close to 1.40 crore in BITS Goa. The average also stands at a decent place.  The prominent recruiters are - ADM Argo, Adobe, Bajaj Auto, Capgemini, CGI, Cisco, DE Shaw, EXL Services, Razor Pay, Reliance Jio, Freshworks and Goldman Sachs. Faculty The computer science faculty cannot be compared with chemical engineering.  CS faculty is amazing having well-equipped knowledge in the field to deal with real competition. They all are efficient in imparting real practical skill set to their students in a proper manner. Campus Goa is a place people look out for holidays, and having a college in Goa makes it even more fascinating and attractive.  Certain limitations are also imposed on students. You cannot leave the campus before 5 PM and you should return back by 11 PM.  BITS Goa makes it a better option on all fronts whether its faculty, campus, or scope. Having this outlook will help you get to a good institute. The stream can be a point of interest but other factors also matter.Read more

● Top Answer By Sai Sandeep Illendula on 26 Feb 21

Ans. IIT Gandhinagar is a premier engineering institute even after that it has tried to contribute its fullest efficiency to the department of arts & humanities. The MA Program in Society and culture is one such example of it. The major highlights of the course are mentioned below: It is an interdisciplinary and flexible course. It provides great insight into the cultural codes in the context of nations & societies. You will develop a good skill base for doctoral studies, policy work, consultancy and it opens up a wide range of careers. Students are given the freedom to touch subjects like Political Science, Communication, Neuroscience, and Psychology. The course is provided as a blend so that a reasonable amount of freedom to follow their choice. The three constituents of course are : Literature & Society- To help understand the creativeness of languages across the society in sync with different caste, class, print, and digital cultures. History & Politics- This is an aim to understand Indian Politics from a deep end in order to reach its foundation. Public policy & Human Development- It is a methodological approach to look into development by applying social research. The course is quite theory intensive and the institute believes in providing continuous assessment through evaluations, discussions, cross-questioning, and guest lectures. The course structure is systematic and hence a positive review is a must for the college.Read more

The washrooms are very clean and have ample amounts of washing machines available for washing clothes. There is paid laundry service as well if you want your clothes to get washed. There are a variety of events and discussions which take place in the hostel rooms so that you will not get bored. Also at the hostels, the seniors and the juniors interact and make the environment very friendly. Beyond the above-mentioned facilities at the hostels there are other facilities as well in the hostels: Most of the hostels have air conditioning facilities from 10 PM to 6 AM. There is a provision of a fridge, oven water cooler and an induction stove on every floor. The hostels are well designed whether it’s a single bedroom or double bedroom the rooms are much larger. Drinking water facilities are tested every day. Basketball, volleyball and badminton courts are next to the hostels only. A student lounge is also available near the hostel area with facilities for various indoor games. Talking about the mess facility the food is cooked in very hygienic condition. At the mess, veg, non-veg, and Jain food are cooked separately. There are 2 mess halls on the campus. You can eat at the mess and if you don’t want to eat at the mess then you will have to pay separately. The charges of the food are very less and reasonable. The taste of the food at the mess is nice. Since the food is hygienic as well. But it depends upon your likings. The food is healthy. The menu is prepared by taking all the suggestions and opinions of the students. The menu consists of a variety of food and you will not get bored by the food. Overall you don’t have to worry about the campus.Read more

Ques. Will IIT Gandhinagar shortlist the 2nd round of M.Tech students?

● Top Answer By Manika Gupta on 24 Feb 21

Ans. No, IIT Gandhinagar does not shortlist candidates from 2nd round of M tech candidates. Also, they don’t provide any waiting list for the same. They keep the seats vacant if anyone does not take admission. Although it is not correct as the seats remain vacant which can be filled by other waiting list candidates and their year will also not get wasted but this is not in our hands. M.Tech seats are first filled by premium IITs and then the remaining seats by outside students who have qualified GATE. If you enter the college by qualifying GATE then you will be eligible for a scholarship as well.  The college also conducts its personal test for M.Tech admissions. In which they ask quantitative, reasoning and engineering mathematics. There are no spot admissions as of now. As the college is new more changes are expected in the coming future.Read more

Course Curriculum Overview

8/10

The course curriculum is good and easy. It has many humanities courses. And once you complete the required credits for graduation you can choose and study any course being offered in the semester. The faculties are also lenient.
