This institute is established in 1960. At that time it's name is RIT (regional institute of technology) and in 2002 when all RIT get rank of NIT it is also get rank of NIT.now it funded by govt of India and control by MHRD.

Overall the infrastructure may not be very good but in areas like academics, sports and placements,it is one of the best NIT of the india where students can start their life experience.New Teachers are enrolling every year increasing teaching power and regular development is also going on regarding infrastructure, and in next 5 years infrastructure will also be very much appealing.

Positive is overall this college is best in comparison to other nits.
Negative is till now there is not complete development in every field but it is going on.
Also a new academic building is ongoing projects of this college which will be inaugurated next year which is a positive remarks.

If college is provided with good infrastructure and good curriculum then it will be a great institute. The outdated curriculum,some unsupporting staff, infrastructure are the main disadvantages. Whereas extra curricular activities, events, clubs, placements, strong alumni network are advantages.

Overall the Institute can be rated as good but not excellent as the exposure to great software companies are a bit lesser as compared to the IITs. But being an nit it fulfills all sorts of expectations but not extravagant or luxurious ones.

Its a great place to be. It sure does lack infrastructure, but is amazing, and students here enjoy a lot. Its a prime example of study hard, play hard. Also, the busy enviroment and calm surrounding sets the mood right.

My friend recently graduated from NIT Jamshedpur. Here is her review.
Location: The campus is located in Adityapur, surrounded by industries. It is a bit away from Tatanagar Railway Station. Since Jamshedpur doesn’t have an airport the best way to reach the campus is from Ranchi via NH-33.
Infrastructure-wise: Both the hostels and the computer centers are revamped. The main buildings of the campus are still under further development but are expected to be in maintenance soon. However, the mega hostels, known as J & K, are an enhanced sight of the campus.
Academics
- The quality of professors or the methodology of their teaching is quite not up to the mark. Few professors of the institute somewhat still follow the old pedagogy and are sometimes not cooperative. On contrary, the newly appointed Ad-hoc faculties are supportive and are willing to guide students.
- Students of the institute perform well in competitive examinations. Many made it to IITs, IIMs, or various international institutes as well.
- The Central Workshop and laboratories, substantially Fluid, Thermodynamics, and Metallurgical are not quite well maintained.
Placement Reports:
A few major recruiting companies are (in respective branches) as follows.
- CSE: Amazon, Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle
- ECE: Amazon, Oracle Finance, Wipro, Mahindra Comviva
- EEE: Tata Steel, JSW Steel, L&T, BPCL
- ME: Tata Motors, L&T, Tata Steel, BPCL
- MME: JSW Steel, Vedanta, Tata Metaliks, Tata Steel
- CE: Simplex, L&T
- PIE: Tata Hitachi, JK Tyre, JK Paper, Tata Motors
FIITJEE, Rao Academy, Career Point, etc, are examples of coaching institutes that recruited as well. The highest package received was 30 LPA while the average salary was 12 LPA
Extracurricular Activities:
The TechnoManagement fest, Ojass, and Cultural fest, Culfest are the major events of the institute. There are several automobile teams as well, like Team Phoenix, the aircraft team; Team Rays, the hybrid car team and Team Daksh, Off road car team.
