Remarks:

My college is ranked 23rd by NIRF and is a government college. The highest package in our department is 11 LPA and the fee structure is too low. The companies that participate in the placement drive are Wipro, CISCO, Tata Motors, Accenture and many others. So, these were the reasons which changed my mind and I took admission into this college. However, to take admission, I filled the application form in April with all the details and an application fee of Rs. 600 in online mode merely. Based on the score obtained in undergraduate and management entrance test i.e. CAT, I got shortlisted for GD and PI rounds. Further, I turned up for selection procedure round where my performance was good and I got admission offer letter lastly.

Remarks:

I choose to study in National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) because it is one of the 31 institutions of national importance Under the NIT Act 2007 and is fully funded by the Government of India. With its Proactive collaborations with a multitude of research organization's, academic institutions and industries, our institute has set a new style for its functioning under the NIT regime. Our President of India is the visitor to the Institute under the act in the college. My Admission to the B. Tech. was based on the performance in the JEE (Main) Paper 1 and Paper 2 respectively. I came to know about this college through collegedunia website.

Placement Experience:

NITC has a good placement rate. Companies like Cisco, Qualcomm, Bosch, L&T, Texas Instruments, etc come every year. Students from the 5th semester can apply for internships whereas the placement activities are started in the eighth semester. An orientation is held for the final year students by the Training and Placement cell to familiarise them with the process, apt soft skills, and technical ones required for securing a placement. The profiles offered to vary from Graduate Engineer Trainee, Associate Engineer, Data Scientist, Data Analyst, etc.

Remarks:

So, the course fee in my college is too less which is the main reason for taking admission in this college. Plus, the placement record and course curriculum is too good. Further, the admission is too simple, for that I submitted the application form in January 2020 with the application fee and then based on CAT score, work experience, previous academic record and performance in GD and PI rounds, I got selected and finally got into my dream college.

Placement Experience:

A lot of companies do visit for placements. As for Mechanical engineering, companies like Maruti, Volvo, HPCL etc. From a batch of 140 usually around 80-100 get the placements. The highest package offered for mechanical engineering was 10 LPA. After college, it is your option to choose the career path that you want, as for me I chose to be a data analyst. The mathematical background provided helped me greatly in choosing that profession.

Remarks:

Professors from this college are well qualified and are of great knowledge. Apart from academics, students can take part in many extra-curricular activities like Clubs, Sports, Workshops, Art, etc. I would like to join this college because of the reputation of its Mechanical department. However, the curriculum and examination pattern can be improved. Admission will take place on the basis of JEE mains results and I applied through JOSAA online portal website.

NIT Calicut: 1 Answered Question

What is your review of the National Institute of Technology Calicut?

Shweta RoyLives in Calcutta

My sister completed her B.Tech from NIT Calicut a few years back. As a female student, she had a bitter experience at this college. Here are some of the things that she noticed during her stay at NIT Calicut-

  1. The girls hostel is very strict regarding outings. There is a fixed curfew from 7 pm to 6 am. Even for staying on campus after 7 pm, special permission is required.
  2. There are instances where you might encounter racism in the most casual manner, this is especially true for North Indian students.
  3. The hostel and college staff are blatantly partial towards female students and those who complain are told to leave the college.
  4.  There is a system of daily roll call for female hostellers, which is again a gender-biased rule. The Resident Tutors are not supportive or helpful and may scold you for not attending the roll call even if you are new and not well aware of the hostel procedures.
  5. During LAN work or other repairs, no female attendee is present with the male workers within the girls hostel premises. The girls are expected to follow all the precautionary measures and no strict rules are laid for the male workers.

NIT Calicut is an institute of national importance with an excellent reputation and great placement records. However, as a female hosteller, my sister faced these obstacles which caused unnecessary frustration for her.
